Half-Life Alyx 10 Interactable Things That Are Super Fun

Half-Life: Alyx is full of interactable objects for the player to mess around with. Today, we're going to check out the best of them. Being true to form for the franchise, is full of interactable objects for the player to mess around with. Lots of basic in-game items become extremely fun when implemented into a VR , and there isn't much that can rival the feeling of throwing a glass object at a wall or ceiling and watching it shatter. This list will cover 10 of the best objects in the game that players can play around with. From an interactable piano to the ammo cartridges, here are the 10 most fun interactable components in Alyx! THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Doors

Doors are usually somewhat physically interactable within VR games but in Alyx they're on another level. Pushing doors open with motion controllers is a cool experience, and it feels so good to just slam a door on the horrifying Headcrabs. Doors are a simple object but creating them in an immersive way for virtual reality can truly create a more vibrant world. Valve did a great job developing the door mechanics in the game.

Masks

Alyx has many interactable objects throughout the game and this one is definitely one of the most interesting. This object is a party animal mask and the player can physically equip it by putting their controller to their head while the mask is in their hand. Party masks are fun for all ages and seeing something like this in a game so dark and grim can really turn the player's frown upside down. It's cool to know that Valve actually took the time to add these into the game because although they're completely unnecessary, it's still great to see so much detail in a VR game.

Wooden Boxes

Wooden boxes can be found throughout the world space. Players can break them by throwing the boxes at a wall which will shatter them. This object is very fun because breaking boxes into a bunch of wooden planks with just the player's bare hands is very efficient, and it's a mechanic that's surprisingly not utilized in many other games. Inside of the boxes will be a beneficial object for the player to pick up, so none of these boxes should be left unbroken. You'll want to search areas for any of these interactable crates with goodies inside.

Grenades

Grenades are an important weapon in Alyx and players will want to make sure to never waste them because they're somewhat rare, and finding more is rarely an option. Players shouldn't waste any of these explosive weapons. What makes this object so enjoyable is the act of physically throwing the grenade. Having to swing the controller and aim the grenade right at the enemy can be quite tricky, especially for a player with bad aim. Enemy grenades can also be thrown back at them by using the gravity gloves to grab them midair.

Ammo

The guns in Alyx have a very immersive ammo system that allows the player to reload by physically placing ammo into the gun and preparing the gun to shoot. Although many VR shooters have immersive ammo systems, Alyx is much more in-depth compared to them. Players will have a tense time trying to reload their weapons while enemies are launching straight at them in VR. It's interesting that Valve created such an amazing system for reloading guns and hopefully it will be used in future VR titles.

Bottles

Bottles within the game add no useful attributes, however, they're really fun to throw around and shatter into shards. It's great to just physically throw the bottle down to the ground. Bottles are found everywhere throughout the world and it's definitely not a surprise that they earned a spot on this list. To players that haven't tried a VR game it probably seems like a silly detail. However, throwing glass around and seeing it shatter with such graphical fidelity is a weirdly satisfying experience that every player enjoys!

Piano

The piano in Alyx is amazing because it's fully functional and fans can play music on it. Valve added an amazing amount of detail to this object and they definitely weren't lazy about it. The piano in Alyx shows fans of VR how the world inside of a game can be very interactable even if it's somewhat unnecessary. Hopefully, more instruments will appear in future VR games and players will get to make more catchy tunes!

Upgrade Station

Upgrade stations are a wonderful addition to the roster of weapons in Alyx. The VR shooter only has a few guns, but using the upgrade station adds many new and powerful options to these weapons, nicely offsetting the lack of variety. Being able to upgrade weapons is important in any game and the way that the player interacts with the machine is very immersive. The player has to place resin into the machine with their controller and then place their gun into the weapon slot. The way that this machine was designed is really fun, especially in VR!

Barnacle

Barnacles are one of the main enemies in Alyx. This enemy also appeared in the other Half-Life and its unique mechanic allows it to pull the player into its mouth using its tongue-like organ. Players will not want to get close to these monsters because they will certainly get sucked up by it. Barnacles are one of the best interactable objects in the game because of their tongue. Players can throw any object at them and the Barnacle will grab it and pull it away, effectively distracting the enemy. Throwing items at these enemies is super fun, especially grenades!

Puzzles

The puzzles in Alyx were a definite treat. They're sure to inspire future VR games because they were executed so successfully. These particular puzzles have never been seen in any other and it's amazing to see virtual reality puzzles done correctly. Players will have a blast physically interacting with them, which is why a high spot on this list is fitting for them!
