Persona The 5 Most Tragic Heroes & The 5 Most Annoying Villains
Persona has had its fair share of tragic heroes, while supplying fans with some truly insufferable antagonists. One will be hard-pressed to find a single JRPG fan who doesn't speak fondly of the series. A game that was supposed to be a tame spin-off from the series ended up coming into its own as one of the most popular and successful JRPG series of all time, to the point where games like can release in the modern market and witness , as opposed to fading into obscurity like most other games in the same genre. A big part of what makes all Persona games amazing is , coupled with a slew of incredible villains that make their threats all the more palpable with their presence. Some of these villains can be downright annoying at times however, which becomes even more frustrating in these games where some of the heroes experience truly tragic events that make gamer emphasize with their dilemma even more. So, keeping this in mind, here are five of the most tragic heroes in Persona, coupled with five ridiculously annoying villains in these games. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY TRAGIC HERO Teddie
For all the happiness that Teddie might excuse, the fact that he's a Shadow who broke the chains of negativity and tried his best to live with humans is a story that's equal parts endearing and heartbreaking. Watching this happy-go-lucky character struggle to terms with the meaning of his own existence is a heavy-hitting moment that lets us actually peek into the depths of his character. ANNOYING VILLAIN Suguru Kamoshida
The first adult in whose Mind Palace is explored is Kamoshida's — a gym teacher who abuses his authority and misbehaves with the female students in the school. The sheer depravity of this person is one of the major reasons why Kamoshida is considered by many to be one of the worst and most annoying villains in the entire series. TRAGIC HERO Morgana
The theme of existentialism is one concept that the Persona series frequently touches upon... along with loneliness as well. So, it was a given that forcing both these issues onto a character would be way too heavy for any person to bear, which is why Atlus probably chose a cat to depict these issues. However, this doesn't mean that Morgana can't be empathized with — rather, it just goes to show that having an actual person dealing with these problems would've been way too much for gamers to bear. ANNOYING VILLAIN Mitsuo Kubo
, but its villains are sorely lacking in a ton of departments. Most of these characters are evil simply for the sake of being evil, and Mitsuo Kubo perfectly fits into this category. While one can argue that Mitsuo's frustrations stemmed from him perceiving the entire world to be against him, the manner in which he decides to vent his frustrations is simply way too extreme for anyone to relate with. TRAGIC HERO Aigis
We've spoken about existentialism numerous times on this list, and this theme continues in Persona 3 with Aigis. However, what makes Aigis' struggle with her existence all the more personal is the fact that she looks human, acts human, and even acts like a human... but is actually an android. To watch her slowly come to grips with human emotions and feel confused about herself feels somewhat more personal. This, coupled with the fact that Persona 3 is considered to be the most heavy-hitting title in the entire series, makes this character's story all the more tragic. ANNOYING VILLAIN Takaya Sakaki
Speaking of Persona 3, it's time to talk about a character with an ideology so flawed that a simple well-constructed argument can shatter everything he believes. Takaya Sakaki falls into the previously mentioned "being evil for the sake of being evil" category. He could've still been exempted from this list, had it not been for what he did to the next character. TRAGIC HERO Shinjiro Aragaki
Persona 3 is a hard-hitting game in the series for a variety of reasons, with perhaps the most second-most emotional moment in the entire series coming from Shinjiro Aragaki. The big brother of the entire group portrayed a strong-yet-compassionate character, whose death at the hands of Takaya in a bid to protect Ken was perhaps the perfect way to write his character off. And yet, it still hurts gamers to think about this sacrifice at times. ANNOYING VILLAIN Masayoshi Shido
The events of are kickstarted from the very moment when Joker decides to go out of his way to protect a girl from a drunk pervert, only for said drunk pervert turning out to be a powerful official who makes Joker's life a living hell. This man is Masayoshi Shido, and his character only becomes more and more depraved as the story develops. Conquering his palace and defeating his Shadow form is easily one of the most satisfying gaming moments of all time. TRAGIC HERO Minato Arisato Makoto Yuki
The protagonist of Persona 3 might seem like a blank slate, but one can't help but still care about this character. After all, most main characters in the Persona series are meant to be a mirror for the player to express his own feelings, and Persona 3 does this excellently. This is precisely what makes the ending of Persona 3 so bittersweet. The entire party believes that the threat to the world is finally at an end... only for the exhausted lead character to share one final moment with Aigis before breathing his last. ANNOYING VILLAIN Tohru Adachi
The reveal of Tohru Adachi being the main villain in Persona 4 was extremely surprising, given the fact that he never showed a penchant for being so morally corrupt and psychotic before that. However, it's only after encountering the real Adachi do you realize just how much of a horrible character he actually is. His whole reason for committing so many murders was that he was bored in a small town, which is as contrived a reason as can be for a villain. Just like Mitsuo Kubo, Adachi falls into the category of villains who are evil just for the sake of being evil.
