Star Wars Squadrons - 5 Reasons We re Excited & 5 Why We re Worried
EA recently announced Star Wars: Squadrons, leaving many fans excited. However, within this excitement is a sense of worry of whats to come. The latest game part of of the development and distribution rights recently got announced as being the mysterious Project Maverick, which many fans predicted to be a starfighter based game. This prediction came true with the unveiling of Star Wars: Squadrons, releasing October 2nd of this year. Fans have been frothing at the mouth for a new game announcement after the fantastic and the terrible stoppage of content. This game is one that many fans have waited years for, but just because things look great thus far does not mean there are not aspects that have fans worried. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Excited - Customization
One thing all gamers love to do is customize. Star Wars fans get to customize not only the exterior of their ship with paint jobs, etc. but also the interior with personal items. As well as that, various perks and ship components are waiting to get unlocked for the player's ship, which is fantastic. Another customization feature is that of the look of the players pilot themselves, giving a real personal feel. Worried - Solely Starfighter Play May Not Be For Everyone
The game is just starfighters, and nothing else. Both the single-player and multiplayer are ship-based with ship combat and ship-based maps only across both. While some people will find this appealing, a solely ship-based game . Battlefront II players know it is far more difficult to get flight game lobbies than ground-based modes. This does not hurt the quality of the game but could hurt its commercial success, which could harm the future of the games. Excited - Starfighters & Stories About Pilots
Then again, there are no Star Wars fans who do not want to jump into different cockpits of iconic starships like the X-wing and TIE Fighter. On top of that, pilots can be some of the most interesting characters in Star Wars, so stories about them on both sides will be fantastic to play through. Worried - May Get Pitted Against Older Games
One of the reasons that many fans have gotten so excited over the prospect of a new flight-based game is because the games that came out years ago are so beloved. Games like the TIE Fighter are incredible. Should Squadrons not live up to those expectations, it could harm not only the critical response for the game from some but also create another pocket in the fandom that gets split and turns toxic. Excited - VR & Cross-Platform Support
Star Wars fans have dreamed forever to jump into starfighter cockpits and fight in dogfights and giant space battles. That dream comes one step closer to those with VR, with the game fully playable within it. Alongside that, the game will be cross-platform, meaning no longer are friends restricted to playing with those with the same console as them. They get to join battles with them no matter what. Worried - Short Campaign
Perhaps the most prominent Battlefront II campaign was that it was too short. It was a valid criticism considering it skipped months into the future at one point, months that would have been fascinating to play through. The campaign for this game promises to be just as good story-wise. What it needs though is more balance between online and single player, meaning a longer campaign, not RPG long but long enough to make it feel an experience. Excited - Switching Between Imperial & Rebel Pilots
One of the most exciting aspects of the campaign is being able to switch between the . Not change sides like Iden Versio, but play as both. Seeing the psyche of these Imperial pilots following the fall of the Emperor, as well as seeing the same events from multiple points of view, promises to be phenomenal. Worried - Another Switch Of Sides
As mentioned above, in the Battlefront II campaign, Iden Versio . This was not bad, but the game promised fans something else from what it delivered by doing so. It also cut out big chunks of time, eventually showing Iden be a pilot as if she had been for decades. Hopefully, if this happens in Squadrons, it is done better, with more care, explanation, and detail. Excited - Tactics & Strategy
Switching to the multiplayer aspect, one thing that promises to be terrific is the tactical side of the 5v5 space battles. Players can now group up with their friends online before games for briefings to layout strategies and tactics and to work as a team to pick apart the enemy. Worried - The Initially Released Game Might Be It
Star Wars Squadrons Imperial Briefing The thing that worries most fans who are worried is the fact that the game as it is, initially released on October 2nd, might be all there is with no additional content. Additionally, EA is doubling down on games going forward, with another game coming this year in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga,l ikely soon, as well as other in-development projects. EA will likely put this game out, have all the bugs fixed as needed, but might not release any additional ships or single and multiplayer content.
