The game was a long over-due dose of nostalgia for long-time fans, while it introduced new players to the world and characters of . Of course, no great game is complete without a decent villain, and it just so happens that Sephiroth from is one of the all-time fan-favorite gaming villains. This silver fox has a large fan-following and so it's no surprise that there's some absolutely amazing fan art out there of our best bad guy. Fair warning, there are spoilers ahead. Clash of Wills

This rather awesome piece of art by shows Cloud and Sephiroth locked in a battle of strength and will, a recurring theme throughout the Final Fantasy 7 game and its spin-offs. Cloud's determination is shown in his features, while Sephiroth's more maniacal confidence is clearly there. This art is so emotive and detailed; you can practically hear the clash of the blades in the picture. The use of light to highlight the character's features, especially Sephiroth's hair, is a really nice touch.

For it is through death that a new spirit energy is born

This haunting image by presents fans with a darker image, with grotesque elements of the picture juxtaposed by the light coming from the materia. Sephiroth is clutching the black material in his hands, while his sword, , is entangled behind him. In the game, Sephiroth seeks to obtain the black material to summon a meteor onto the planet. The damage from this would prompt the planet to heal itself with a rush of energy from the lifestream, which Sephiroth plans to take for himself to ascend into godhood.

Looking Back to the Past

In this serene art piece by , we see Sephiroth, Genesis, and Angeal all together from the era. Though this image presents a peaceful, touching moment between three comrades, it's mixed with sadness when you consider how they all ended up. Crisis Core released in 2008 for the PlayStation Portal and added a lot to many of the Final Fantasy 7 cast, as well as giving fans a better look at Sephiroth from when he wasn't simply "the bad guy".

Godhood

Sephiroth is looking particularly evil in this fan art by , depicting a devilishly dark scene of the main villain sitting on a throne and giving a kingly wave. This art presents the idea of Sephiroth being the victor, not only as he is sat atop a throne, but also because the throne is similar to the design of the buster sword as if he has vanquished Cloud. It's strange to think what might have happened if Sephiroth had been successful in his plan in merging with the lifestream to become a god.

I Will Never Be a Memory

This art by is stunning, presenting an angelic-looking Sephiroth complete with halo. Fans know he is far from angelic when it comes to the idea of angels being good, but when you consider avenging angels who were thought to punish humanity, you start to see more of a parallel. Angels are also thought to be immortal beings and considering Sephiroth continues to survive time and time again after being defeated and destroyed multiple times, you can also see the link to the angelic symbolism there too.

Light vs Darkness

This beautiful piece by the super talented artist presents a peaceful mood with a muted color scheme, despite its subject being a battle. Both and Sephiroth seem almost peaceful, their faces calm and their bodies elegantly posed as if they were dancing instead of fighting. After everything that Sephiroth has put through Cloud personally, it's no wonder Cloud wants him dead (and that he even "killed" him). It's a fight that could seemingly never end, as presumably, Sephiroth is still lurking in the world in some way, fighting against the lifestream.

Birth of a God

This piece is by and the dark tones of the image work really well next to the gold in the background and the silver of Sephiroth's hair and armor details. It gives the piece a kind of metallic, rich quality. This version of Sephiroth appears to be beckoning or goading his opponent towards him, while behind his back we can see he has a firm grip on Masamune. His is visible in the foreground and blends into the dark background, hidden much like Sephiroth's waiting blade.

The Man in the Black Cape

This fantastic piece of art by exudes power and there is a sense of menace in the bright eyes of this fan-favorite villain. Just beyond his right shoulder, in the cloud of darkness, you can just make out the faint lines of feathers, alluding to his wing. The use of the bright turquoise color reminds anyone looking at this piece of the lifestream, which Sephiroth fell into but was not consumed by, allowing him to return to carry out his evil plan.

Heartless Angel

This Sephiroth fan art by is absolutely gorgeous, mixing it up from the usual by not only presenting fans with the Safer Sephiroth form but also changing some details to make it their own. The strange puff of cloud skirt is gone; instead, Sephiroth gets a feathered skirt that may remind fans of how in . Sephiroth has also been given his iconic hairstyle, rather than the swept-back version he normally sports in this form.

One-winged Angel

This fan art by the appropriately named is absolutely breathtaking. It is both beautiful and haunting at the same time, showing the infamous One-winged Angel that is Sephiroth, and this image even has clinging to his leg. The level of detail in this piece of art is insanely good. This artist has other artwork they have done of Final Fantasy 7 characters, as well as a wide range of other gaming characters too.
