Wild Wasteland 15 Unmarked Fallout Locations That Are Creepy

The Fallout games are full of terrifying unmarked locations that'll give you the chills. Here are some of the scariest places the series has to offer. via: nexusmods.com, imgur.com Gamers who were longtime fans of Black Isle Studio's series were displeased by the unpleasant news in the early 2000s. The groundbreaking series was sold from Interplay and obtained by Bethesda. They changed the isometric gameplay to 3D and opened up the series to new players. had gone from a little-known cult classic to an AAA series beloved by millions. Though fans of the older series grumbled about the changes Bethesda made, everyone can agree that bringing the series into a 3D environment increased the game's potential. The isometric gameplay limited exploration, and most of the locations were marked and easy to find. In the newer games, Bethesda has added some creativity to the series by adding creepy areas. Even Obsidian, which was composed of some former Black Isle Studio developers, created some spooky areas in Fallout: New Vegas. Some of the creepy areas are more obvious, like the Dunwich buildings in Fallout 3 and 4 or the Vaults. These buildings mixed Lovecraftian horror with the intensity of fighting some of the game's most difficult enemies: Deathclaws. Not all of the locations are marked on your map. Several spooky locations remain unmarked, letting gamers discover them on their own. Only until you discover these secret locations will you find out what kind of horror lies within. Our list compiles some of the creepiest, unmarked locations in the recent Fallout series. This list contains some spoilers, so be prepared to feel uncomfortable as you read on. Fancy Robbing A Bank

via: fallout.wikia.com Not all of Fallout 3's scariest unmarked locations are on the main map. Sometimes you have to explore the expansion packs. The Point Lookout DLC took us to the swamp lands and away from the Capital Wasteland. Once you explore the area away from the add-on's storyline, you'll discover the Bank of Point Lookout. Before the Great War, the bank had a new safe that could be unlocked with voice commands. Unfortunately, the bank was still robbed. You'll witness the grisly remains of the bloody bank robbery. Several skeletons are scattered around the bank with blood stained on the walls. Next door to the bank is the Homestead Motel, where the robbers may have successfully fled. The dead bodies are surrounded by cash, which is ultimately useless to the Lone Wanderer after the Great War.

The Final Frontier

via: fallout.wikia.com Aliens have always had some small appearance in the Fallout series. Fallout 3 finally allowed us to travel to space in the Mothership Zeta expansion pack, but their appearances are usually reduced to UFO crashes. The games make their crash sites appear like crime scenes. Trees are snapped in half with a fiery path lighting up the way to the wreckage. The UFO is usually destroyed and looks like a painful crash. The aliens often don’t survive, and their lifeless bodies remain in the pilot’s seat. In Fallout 4, the alien survives the crash but isn’t willing to play nice with the Sole Survivor. You can follow the alien’s green blood trail into a dark cave, where it will immediately turn aggressive, and you’ll have to kill the creature.

Fallen Soldiers Dangerous Ground

via: fallout.wikia.com Though Arlington Cemetery's North and South regions are marked on Fallout 3's map, there is still a large area to explore within. The entire cemetery has a somber feeling since it was a burial ground for US military service members. The area was affected by the Great War, so it's mostly empty. Not even Ghouls want to trample on the sacred ground. Somehow, a creepy, yet uplifting phenomenon has occurred. Near the Arlington House are a handful of tombstones that have flowers growing around it. If you're familiar with Fallout 3, you'll know that the Capital Wasteland is a sea of brown dirt and dead grass. Don't get too comfortable though, because the area isn't free of hazards. In the Southern region of the map near Mama Dolce's factory, you'll find several Chinese remnant soldiers waiting to attack.

A Hidden Surprise

via: fallout.wikia.com Since the bombs fell during the Great War, people have tried to survive to the best of their ability. Some of the residents in Fallout 4's Commonwealth haven't been able to cope with the new world, even if it's all they known. Southeast of the Mass Gravel and Sand work site and close to the Kendall Hospital in Cambridge is a small plumbing store. Radroaches have dominated taken over the area, but there is still much of the building to explore if you look up. You'll discover a line of plungers along the ceiling, 23 to be exact. There are four bottlecap mines protecting the pathway. We don't know how they're stuck up there or who placed them there. The building is spooky and makes you wonder if someone was obsessed with plungers or only used them to protect their valuable loot.

Ghouls Vs Mutants

via: fallout.wikia.com In a building near Marigold Station in Fallout 3 are angry ghouls. Once you walk through a barricade that ominously says "Welcome to Grayditch," you'll enter an abandoned building. The building might seem empty with just a burning barrel for heat and light, but you'll notice the super mutant in the jail cell. The three resident ghouls inside the building are hostile. They don't care if you're wearing Roy Phillips' ghoul mask because their only intent is to exterminate you. This malnourished trio is powerful enough to trap a Super Mutant, so you know they shouldn't be taken lightly. The combined atmosphere of an empty, dark building, jailed enemy, and angry residents are enough to make you want to turn around and head back to Vault 101.

Watch Out For The Claws

via: entertainmentfuse.com In the Deathclaw promontory in Fallout: New Vegas, there are several enticing items. If you failed the quest "For Auld Lang Syne," but still want the Remnants power armor, you have another opportunity to get the armor. Unfortunately, you'll have to survive through a pathway of Deathclaws for it. Almost forty Deathclaws reside in the area, including baby and young creatures. If you're over level 30, you'll also face Alpha Male Deathclaws and their mates. Being stuck in a small area against one of the most powerful enemies may make you want to avoid it. If you bring along enough Stimpaks and an essential, non-killable companion, you may be able to make it out of the area alive. If you accidentally wander into the area, alone, with a low level, you're probably going to have a difficult time surviving.

Where Children Once Spent Their Days

via: fallout.wikia.com Fallout 3 tried to make the Capital Wasteland resemble real-life landmarks, which includes schools and playgrounds. Though it's unmarked on the map, you will have to travel through Early Dawn Elementary School during the main quest "Following in His Footsteps" to find the Lone Wanderer's father. The school is in bad shape, but it is one of the only ways to get to the Galaxy News Radio building plaza, which is protected by the Brotherhood of Steel. The area is creepy and sad, as you remember that many of the children probably died when the bombs fell. It's likely that many of them turned into the same feral ghouls you shot as you made your way to the school. Luckily there were still survivors who continued to live on since about half of the school's student body traveled to the Little Lamplight caverns.

We ll Steal Your Brain

via: fallout.wikia.com Underneath Fallout 3's Point Lookout Lighthouse is an underground lab that holds frightening experiments. Before the Great War, the St. Aubin Medical Facility was being used for devious purposes. The scientists were extracting human brains for use in General Atomics' Robobrain workers. With the right mix of chemicals, these brains were powerful enough to project their thoughts to others. The desire to learn more about these powerful brains led to one of the men, Professor Calvert, having his brain extracted. He runs the lab and uses his psychic powers to control his robot followers. After learning what this lab does, your Lone Wanderer might want to escape before their own brain is involuntarily extracted. Unfortunately, this unmarked location is part of the main Point Lookout quest, but you have no choice but to watch what happens.

Hidden Nest Of A Thousand Stings

via: fallout.wikia.com As soon as Fallout: New Vegas' Courier walks out of Goodsprings, you'll learn how annoying and difficult Cazadores are. These mutated giant tarantula hawk spider wasps are not part of the fallout of the Great War but were created in a lab by Doctor Borous. They overwhelmed the scientist and escaped into the Mojave Desert. Near the Brewer's beer bootlegging shack, you'll find a small nest filled with the aggressive creatures. Get too close, and they'll attack you in a group. You might want to get closer when you spot the duffle bag of one of their victims. Inside the bag is a combat helmet and armor, which could help you during your journey. But you must ask yourself if getting attacked by these mutated creatures is worth the loot.

Too Proud Too Leave

via: fallout.wikia.com How far would you go for your research? In Fallout 3, Isabella Proud and her co-worker Jason were eager to learn more about feral ghouls. They studied the creatures for years, documenting their findings on a terminal in the Takoma Park factory. She learned that feral ghouls loved areas with high-radiations. They were also attracted to other ghouls with higher radiation levels like the Glowing One Isabella named Samuel. She traveled north to an area called Isabella Proud's camp, which is also where she and Jason would meet their fate. It's unknown how exactly the couple died. They wore radiation suits, so they were mostly protected from the radiation. They may have been killed by the ghouls. Either way, it's a creepy scene of a scientist so obsessed with her work that it killed her.

The Wheels On The Bus Go Round And Round

via: gagadaily.com The Sole Survivor is forced to trek through Fallout 4's Glowing Sea to find a former Institute Scientist. The Glowing Sea may be seen as beautiful to some, but frightening to many. The sea contains several irradiated buildings that make you wonder if they're worth the extra RadAway to explore. Southwest of the reactor site is a sunken bus with most of the seats ripped out. There are a few trunks of loot at the back of the bus you may find helpful. The area is swarmed with ghouls, protecting their vehicle. The bus is decayed and makes you wonder if it was once filled with children on their way to school. We know the Great War claimed the lives of many. Its extremely likely the ghouls near this bus were young kids, making this a horrible location to discover.

A Family s Last Days

via: fallout.wikia.com These two radio signals in Fallout 3 will make you jump as soon as you hear them. Bob Anderstein is pleading for help for his family. He claims his son is very sick and needs medical help. If you're playing a character that strives to help people, you'll follow the cries for help. Near the KX-B8-11 relay tower, you'll discover a sewage grate. Inside are living quarters with the remains of a woman and man with some non-perishable food. In another chamber is a ham radio that is replaying the distress message. There is no skeleton of a child with them, which makes you wonder if you were led there to be killed, or if he perished long ago. On a nearby table is a D.C. Journal of Internal Medicine magazine, so it's more likely the father was doing his best to help the boy.

Beware The Stinging Scorpions

via: fallout.wikia.com On your way from the Crescent Canyon West gully, you may stumble upon the scorpion burrow. Radscorpions have long been part of the Fallout series, but in Fallout: New Vegas, there is a concentrated area just for these mutated creatures. If you're brave enough to enter, there are multiple giant Radscorpions to make your life miserable. There are dead bodies around the entrance of those who tried to escape or never had a chance. If you manage to make to the end of the burrow, you will have to face a Radscorpion Queen feasting on the remains of a dead Jackal and prospector. Besides from facing her, you'll have to deal with her five guards. The burrow provides little loot, but a high challenge for those brave enough to tackle the Radscorpions.

Love Over Life

via: fallout.wikia.com The Lone Wanderer in Fallout 3 may be recovering from the Yao Guai tunnels to stumble upon Rockopolis. The region may sound familiar thanks to the tales of Herbert "Daring" Dashwood. Rockopolis was once a thriving, underground village. Dashwood was betrayed by Penelope Chase, who turned out to be a lead Slaver from Paradise Falls. He only wanted love, but she ended up enslaving and selling the inhabitants instead. If the heartbreaking tale doesn't depress you, Rockopolis is also where Dashwood's "stalwart ghoul manservant" Argyle also perished. He was killed by Penelope's gang of slavers while Dashwood escaped. Rockopolis has a sad atmosphere from every angle. Dashwood's attraction to Penelope caused an entire settlement to be enslaved, the entrance is permanently blocked by rocks, and his best friend was killed.

A Madman s Dream Dungeon

via: gaming.stackexchange.com Fallout 4 contains several references to movies and pop culture. In the Boston metro area, you can uncover Milton Parking Garage with an unsettling atmosphere. Even the buildings next to it, such as Fallon's, have multiple Super Mutant Suiciders within the area. The maze takes inspiration from the horror series, Saw. Inside the parking lot are a series of traps meant to hinder your progress and make you suffer as much as possible. You'll find the remains of traders and raiders who weren't tough enough to survive. Not only will you have to avoid the traps, but you'll also have to decipher the codes from the maze's creator. The creator does a good job at tempting you with various loot. You'll have to decide if your life or that Hot Rodder Issue #3 is more important.
