Kirby 10 Copy Abilities You Forgot Existed

Nintendo and HAL Laboratory have blessed Kirby with a lot of Copy Abilities over the years. Consequently, some have been forgotten to time. Quick, choose a video game character that nobody can hate! Well? is, of course, the perfect answer. Iconic but complex, powerful but kind, silent but charismatic; it's very difficult to dislike the pink puffball, though being able to remember all of his various Copy Abilities is another story entirely. With 62 abilities in total appearing throughout the Kirby series, there are bound to be some Copy Abilities that get left in the past (or in the dust), especially with 34 games and counting. This list will put the spotlight on ten different Kirby abilities from the games that may have slipped many players' minds. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Hi-Jump

Starting off this list is Hi-Jump Kirby, looking the part of a dashing superhero with a cape and everything. First appearing in the quintessential Kirby's Adventure, Hi-Jump was featured in a total of five games, with its most recent appearance being Kirby's Return to Dream Land. It may seem silly at first to give a powerful jumping ability to a being who can infinitely fly around simply by taking in air, but Hi-Jump is more than just a simple jump. The Copy Ability can only be obtained by swallowing a Starman, with Hi-Jump granting Kirby invincibility while jumping up into the air and damaging his foes. Quite heroic!

Ball

Not to be confused with the ball version of Kirby from Kirby: Canvas Curse, Ball Kirby is a Copy Ability that debuted in Kirby's Adventure and has since been in only one other game, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. The ability comes from inhaling enemy Bubbles as well as Paint Roller's baseball, and it allows Kirby to bounce around and harm enemies by crashing into them. Surprisingly, Ball Kirby appears as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee, stating that it's "tough to control, but well worth it for the strong attack power it gives Kirby."

Bubble

Bubble is a very unique ability that only appears in Kirby: Squeak Squad, a game that features many new abilities that never reappear in later games. This Copy Ability can be found by inhaling Bubble Head or Buboo, and it allows Kirby to turn enemies into bubbled Copy Abilities to use later. These bubbles are a key feature in the game, as they can be stored in Kirby's stomach space along with the treasure chests he must collect from the Squeak Squad. The chance to save an ability for when it's needed later on is extremely useful, but since the stomach feature has not been utilized in any other Kirby games, it makes sense that the Bubble ability would not make a return.

Laser

Perhaps the closest Kirby got to being a Terminator before Kirby: Planet Robobot, Laser debuted way back in Kirby's Adventure, with its last appearance being Squeak Squad. It can be obtained by inhaling Laser Ball enemies and offers Kirby unlimited Laser power that can be charged up for more power. It will also bounce off of the walls, getting enemies in those hard-to-reach places. Despite appearing in four games in the series, it's unlikely Laser will return any time soon. Laser has a surprising amount of power which can no doubt help Kirby annihilate .

Mini

Kirby is pretty small already, but what if he was even smaller? That is Mini Kirby in a nutshell, a Copy Ability exclusive to Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. Only obtainable in specific sections of the game, Kirby can inhale a Minny and become absolutely tiny, fitting through spaces once impossible for normal-sized Kirby. Many of Kirby's other powers cannot be used while in his Mini form, including floating, sliding, inhaling, or using the cell phone, meaning Kirby cannot battle any enemies in this state. It's logical as to why this ability hasn't appeared in later games, but he's just so adorable that it's hard not to want Mini Kirby to return.

Cupid

Perhaps the most lovable of all Copy Abilities, Kirby is very well suited to being a Cupid, having the perfect color scheme and a generous heart. Cupid Kirby is able to hover in the air indefinitely, thanks to his angel wings, and can fire Cupid's arrows with varying strengths to kill enemies (with love). Kirby can obtain the ability by inhaling a Cupie enemy, but only in two games in the series: Kirby & The Amazing Mirror and Kirby: Squeak Squad. Cupid Kirby has seemed to be replaced by Archer Kirby, who first appeared in Kirby: Triple Deluxe.

Backdrop

Backdrop was introduced in Kirby's Adventure, the first Kirby game to include Copy Abilities. Backdrop is a simpler version of the Suplex Ability where Kirby can grab enemies and slam them into the ground. Also like Suplex, it can be obtained by inhaling Bugzzy, a Mid-Boss who appears as a friend in Kirby Star Allies. Backdrop also appeared in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land before being phased out in favor of Throw and Suplex in later games. Kirby clearly has strength in spades as Backdrop Kirby, though

Animal

Neglected by HAL Laboratory yet loved by fans, Animal Kirby has only appeared in one game ever (Kirby: Squeak Squad) and yet has a stuffed plushie of its own. This Copy Ability is gained by inhaling Gaw Gaw enemies, allowing Kirby to dig through tough dirt and earth with his claws. Once he finds the Ability Scroll, Kirby can perform the powerful Claw Drill attack. The adorableness of this ability played no small part in its cult fame, with Kirby resembling a cosplayer or Halloween Trick-or-Treater more than a powerful Star Warrior.

Circus

This ability is perfect for clowning around, especially for those who struggle at juggling things in real life. Circus is a more recent Copy Ability that first appeared in Kirby: Triple Deluxe (a game that features several cameos from beloved boss ), and most recently in Kirby: Planet Robobot. By inhaling a Clown Acrobot, Kirby obtains several different Circus-related abilities, including throwing juggling pins, jumping on a trampoline and through flaming hoops, balancing on a ball, and even creating balloon animals. The versatility of this ability is somewhat similar to Magic, which features doves, playing cards, and a surprise clown face (as well as a magic roulette).

Ghost

Ghost Kirby is perhaps an ability best left forgotten, if only because of how tragic it is that no other game except Kirby: Squeak Squad features it. Kirby can inhale a Tedhaun (as seen above) and become a classic bedsheet ghost, with the haunting ability to possess regular enemies and control their movements and attacks. As a ghost, Kirby predictably cannot walk, slide, use ladders, or fight a boss without having a possessed enemy. Hilariously, inhaling while Ghost Kirby will cause him to sink to the ground, unable to move. Ghost has its limitations, but the utter fun of playing as other characters in the game via a haunting spirit was undeniably awesome.
