30 Things Everyone Completely Missed In Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is loaded with amazing missions and things that casual fans missed. Red Dead Redemption II is an awesome game. One I've been pouring over for more than a week now. I'm discovering new things every day as well as the larger community of fans out there. Compared to most open world games, discovery is actually a tricky thing because travel is actually really taxing. Before I get to share some unique mechanics, treasure, and quests, let me complain a bit further about the fast travel system. A system I have posted my frustration about twice now with my two earlier articles. If you missed my piece on things that don't make sense in the game, or my article on things I wish I knew before starting, well then please, take a gander at those. Anyway in order to properly make my point clear I thought it best talk about last year's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. That's another huge open world game where discovery is just as fun as the main tasks. The reason why I was so addicted to it was, one, it's a great world to explore. Two, there were plenty of ways to fast travel and get around thus incentivizing me to keep exploring. Red Dead Redemption II doesn't do that. It has travel hubs, which are far off from the places you want to see. Actually getting to these areas from towns isn't the problem. It's getting back in one piece. Maybe I'm just too irritable. No matter, point is, thank goodness for everyone else out there. Let's get to it! One last thing: This gets into some endgame activities — Spoilers for those who care! THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

I Want To Believe

screenshot Surprise, surprise, there are UFOs in this game. It's pretty easy to find once you know where to go. If you travel northeast of the second N in New Hanover, you’ll see a lake. Once you're there you'll find skeletons inside a cabin in a scene straight from Fallout 4. There's a cryptic letter that talks about other beings coming back for them at 2 A.M. If you go back inside at that time, you'll see a ship fly above. Is this a clue for the DLC? Will we see cowboys and aliens duke it out? I hope so.

A Letter For Bonnie MacFarlane

Fandom Bonnie MacFarland is the woman who saves John Marston's life at the beginning of the first game. Once you get close you'll learn she's had many suitors, but nothing ever turns out well for her. If you go southeast of the first N in New Hanover, and follow the river, right about there you will see a man, presumably eliminated, next to a boat. If you try to loot him, he'll gasp for air before eventually going in peace for real. In his clutched fist is a love letter for Bonnie.

Up In The Sky

Dan Allen YouTube There's a lot of depressing discoveries in Red Dead Redemption II. A lot of which are even creepier when Arthur barely has a reaction. He just creepily scribbles cryptic notes. Anyway, another flying ruin you can discover is north of Big Valley. Once there you'll see the wreckage of a crazy looking flying contraption with a skeleton in it. This is probably a reference to the Wright Brothers who started building machines in 1899. This is one of their failed attempts perhaps.

The Serial Cowboy

screenshot I'm quite proud to say I discovered this next anomaly on my own. It was fairly early on in the game. I was heading back to camp from Valentine on the main road when I discovered a red trail leading up to a bridge. There you can start the serial destroyer's quest, which is quite intense. He leaves clues using human bodies. If you figure out the clues you'll get to see a pretty amazing discovery. I won't spoil who it is though, but it's worth it.

The Meteorite Strike

Attack of the Fanboy No, sorry Sephiroth is not in the game, but perhaps he is the one that summoned this anomaly. If you go north of the V in Roanoke Valley, and slightly to the west, you'll see a small square. This is a cabin. Make a trip up there to find it has been pierced by a meteor, smoking everyone inside to, well, really gross looking corpses. Bad for them, but good for you as you can sell the leftover chunk for a good bit of cash.

Big Foot Mountain

screenshot Bigfoot has been synonymous with Rockstar games since 2004's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. There is a picture in your house fans thought was a clue to its discovery, but it wasn't in the game. This continued into the first Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto V and is back yet again for this game. A tragic end for Sasquatch. Unfortunately, all you get to see is a skeleton. If you go to Mount Shann, pretty much at the top of the T in West Elizabeth you will see the wreckage.

The Hidden Man Bear Pig

Comedy Central This would also make for a really creepy quest in a paranormal DLC. So if you head west of Van Horn Trading Post, you will find a lone cabin in the woods. In it, you'll find a bunch of unnerving experiments. The creepiest of which is, well, I don't know how else to put it. Whoever lived in this house made a ManBearPig. Yep, this is a realistic version of the joke from South Park. That's what a lot of people believe online anyway.

P T Comes To Red Dead

The Real Fort Knocks YouTube The aliens, skeletons, and mystery case are all creepy, but I think the most unsettling Easter egg is this one. If you go along the coast of the Braithwaite Manor you will eventually find an outhouse that has been chained shut. Through the crescent moon you can hear a woman's voice. If you go near she'll reach out her hand and start going ballistic. Eventually, she'll start to recite random numbers. As of now, no one has figured out if they mean anything. It could be random, or it could be the start of something grander.

Fus Ro Red Dead

The GTA Base The Old West is indeed ancient by today's standards, but let's not forget that back then they also had civilizations that were old even to them. For example, vikings. Well if you want Arthur to uncover some ancient Skyrim like architecture, follow the curve at the beginning of the R in Roanoke Valley. Is the axe mightier than the gun? Slightly south you will find a viking burial ground where you can obtain a helmet and hatchet. The helmet looks cool, but it doesn't have any special attributes and the hatchet is just a throwing axe that is slightly altered.

Hobbits Of The West

Gameranx This is another find that is perhaps just the start of another quest. If you head directly south of the I in Ambarino, you can find a house reminiscent of ones you can find in The Shire from The Lord of the Rings. Unfortunately, you can't go inside. There is something else off about it though. Above the door is a turtle symbol, the same one the cult Mary's brother tried to join. Is there a connection? Perhaps we'll soon find out.

Upgrading Our Borders Finding Red Dead 1 In The Sequel

screenshot Red Dead Redemption took place in New Austin and parts of Mexico. It's big, but not as big as its sequel. While it had only one state in it, Red Dead Redemption II has four more. Not only that, but parts of the first game have been recreated in here too. Bigger is not always better. It's a monstrous achievement, which begs the question. Is it perhaps too big? With no good form of fast travel I say yes, but let's not rehash that old bit again.

Avast Ye Cowpokes

VG247 Another seafaring culture that is locked away in here involves pirates. Just south of Caliga Hall, there are a few islands. On one of them, you can find a small rowboat. Inside you'll find a letter, a skeleton, and an old cutlass. It's not as strong as the machetes in the game, but it certainly looks cooler. It's not as cool as say a full-blown pirate costume with an old pistol, but it's a start. Maybe there's more buried treasure somewhere close by.

The Statues Are Alive

screenshot In terms of quests I actually tried to replicate and didn't have a good time with, this takes the cake. If you want to achieve this too, go to Window Rock. If you climb the winding path you'll find some ancient paintings, but that's not all. If you follow the clues it'll take you to a hidden cave you can find some creepy statues. Solve their puzzle and you'll get some good valuables to sell. What a score, but an eerie one at that.

Please Send Help

VG247 By now I think we're all familiar with the controversy surrounding the development of this game, yes? If not basically it came out that team members had to work over 100 hour weeks in poor conditions. Anyway, this might be a coy developer seeking help from within. What a cheeky devil. If you look at the description for the Cattleman Revolver in the store catalog it reads, "It is made by skilled laborers who work tireless hours each week and on the weekends for little pay in order to bring you the finest revolver in the field today."

Ye Olde Selfie Stick

screenshot The first Stranger quest you can encounter is in Valentine. In the second saloon on the other side of the main stretch, there's a man trying to write a novel about a famous gunslinger. Unfortunately said gunslinger is too far gone so you're tasked with tracking down his friends, asking for detailed accounts of their actions, and to top it off you need a photo thus you get a portable camera. It’s more cumbersome than most photo modes, but it's still handy from time to time.

Oh Brother

screenshot There's another great Stranger quest in Valentine that unlocks about halfway through. I discovered it long after I was run out of town in the fourth chapter I think. Anyway outside the general store, two brothers are fighting over a woman. They're trying to prove how manly they are to her so they decide on a contest. They ask you to shoot bottles off their heads. After that, they want a brawl. The final task I won't spoil. While the rewards are minimal I think it's one of the funniest side quests in the game.

You Sunk My Battleship

screenshot If you happen by one of the parks in Saint Denis, you can overhear a man talking to himself. This is none other than the great Professor Marko Dragic. He's trying to concoct a device for immorality. The first step is with...toy boats. I know it didn't make sense to me either. It doesn't matter how, or why because what you get to do is play a little game of battleship in the pond. It may not make sense tech wise, but it was a fun mini-game.

Jurassic Westworld

screenshot On my hunt for one of those friends of the gunslinger, I happened upon another Stranger quest. Right about in the Heartland area, there is a woman who is trying to prove the existence of dinosaurs. You're tasked with uncovering more fossils. It's not as cool as it sounds. That is to say, it doesn't end with a dinosaur battle, but maybe it will in future DLC akin to the first game's Undead Nightmare pack. I'm crossing my fingers in eager anticipation.

Arthur s Secret

screenshot Late in the game, you find out Arthur had a wife and child, but you can totally miss it. There’s a main mission late in the game with Chief Rains Fall where you travel up to a mountain in order to get a scared pipe. Along the way, you can make dialogue choices and either ask questions, or share life experiences. One of these reveals his family. I was surprised, to say the least, but it's a nice little detail if you pay attention.

Marston Makes A Move

screenshot In the grand scheme of things choices don’t matter. If you’re mean to people outside your party it may change some dialogue, but overall the story is going to play out more or less the same. However, this is different when it comes to your brotherhood of thieves. If you make Arthur be a super monster to your gang, John Marston will eventually call you out and pop you right in the mouth in a pretty funny cutscene. You have to really work for it though.
