25 Video Game Characters Reimagined As College Students

Fan artists are always bringing us interesting fan art of their favorite characters. Some even like to imagine what they would look like in college! Half of what makes playing video games so fun is all of the different characters you can play and encounter. With gaming, you’re not just a gamer; you can be a warrior, a wizard, a hero, or even a villain. You could be a soldier fighting aliens, or you could be a pirate in search of treasure. No matter what you’re in the mood to do, there’s a character that you can be or even just interact with. I’ve always loved playing Link from The Legend of Zelda series. He’s this strong warrior who often goes through many trials to gain the power needed to save his people from an evil force. It was also really fun to play Samus from the Metroid Prime series too, since she was this tough bounty hunter who was exploring alien worlds and fighting off space pirates. While it's fun to interact with all the different characters gaming has to offer, we sometimes can’t help but wonder what they would be like in a different scenario. What if these characters were in a different world, maybe our world? Even better, what would these characters be like if they went to college? How do we find out? Through the fans, of course! Many fans have wondered the same thing and have created a lot of fan aart to give us an idea of what these heroes and villains would look like studying for finals and walking around in our current era. So here are 25 video game characters that have been reimagined as college students. Think we missed some good characters? Make sure to let us know in the comments section below! THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Think He Studies About The Triforce

via: yuoling.tumblr.com, hitokirichibi.deviantart.com Who doesn’t love this legendary swordsman? What always impressed me about Link was how much this guy went through in the games and how he never gave up. And half of the battles he fought were as a kid! This is a warrior who is willing to do what it takes to save his land and his people from any who dare threaten it. Link would totally be that person that perpetually wears a hoodie and always has headphones on. I can see Link just sticking with casual clothes all the time. That fits his personality pretty well. I do like that these artists gave him a green hat. It’s a great callback to his original clothes without making it look too weird. Link probably would wear a green beanie all the time. Art by and .

She ll Kick Behind No Matter What

Via: splashbrush.deviantart.com, unsomnus.deviantart.com Samus Aran is probably one of the toughest Nintendo ladies. She’s a bounty hunter for crying out loud. This woman has faced some of the worst the galaxy has had to offer, from space pirates, to Metroids that suck out your life force, to an actual space dragon (Ridley’s a lot cooler when you think of him that way). And I could see Samus going either formal or casual depending on the situation. College Samus would most likely be studying to be a cop or a detective. I could also see her potentially going into something like law, maybe being a prosecutor. No matter what, she would definitely be working towards bringing the bad guys to justice, whether it’s on the streets or in the courtroom. Art by and .

The University Can t Handle These Twins

Via: tm-wolf.deviantart.com, jokeritadoodle.tumblr.com Assassin’s Creed has a wide array of characters that are all pretty interesting. And two characters that got pretty popular are the Frye twins: Jacob and Evie. Who wouldn’t love these two? They’re hilarious, they have a sweet yet entertaining sibling bond, and they are tough as they come. I can just imagine the antics these two siblings would get into. What Jacob and Evie would study in college, I have no idea, but I can just imagine the antics these two siblings would get into. Jacob would totally be into fingerless gloves, and Evie would probably never let him hear the end of it. I can imagine that the two would probably still be close. If they weren’t living together, they’d likely be in the same town at least. Nothing can tear these twins apart! Art by and .

The Mushroom Kingdom Is Looking A Little Different

Via: mashable.com (Bob Al Greene) Let’s face it, the Mario Bros. are about as classic as it gets when it comes to gaming. And they’re pretty iconic. Whether you’re a big gamer or not, you likely at least know about Mario, Luigi, and their group of friends in the Mushroom Kingdom. So how do these guys look in a college setting? Surprisingly cool, if a little unique. I can totally see Bowser being this big jock guy, and Mario and Luigi as hipsters is both funny and interesting. Let’s face it though, Mario would totally have a couple of tattoos. I also like that Peach has a bit of a punk vibe going on with her hair; it’s a bit of a change from her normally sweeter look. It would be interesting to see the dynamic of these guys in college.

He Would Be The Best Android Student

Via: collegehumor.com (Kailyn Boehm), estefanoida.deviantart.com Just because you’re an android, it doesn’t mean you can’t be a tough, awesome hero. Besides, who wouldn’t want the amazing weapons Mega Man has? Seriously, that cannon is so cool. But this guy is a pretty great hero, dedicated to fighting evil, but also willing to find another way to solve problems. I could see him going into something like Criminal Justice. Mega Man in a college setting could go two different ways. He could go all casual with a slight punk twist, or he could get all fancy casual with a suit and tie. I do like the hat with the feather in it. I don’t know what Mega Man would study. I could see him going into something like Criminal Justice. I don’t think he’d necessarily jump at being a cop, but I could see him wanting to go into a field where he can help people. Art by Kailyn Boehm and .

These Monsters Are Having A Great Time

Via: undertale.reactor.cc (stalker1986) Undertale is an amazing game that really makes you think about the consequences of your choices, and it shows that it’s possible to win a game by not fighting. This game also came with a ton of likable, if pretty strange characters. And you end up getting attached to them despite your best intentions. So, how would they look in a college setting? This artist’s interpretation has Asriel, Chara, Frisk, and a few other monsters, enjoying themselves at a café. While I’m not sure if it’s a strictly college setting, I could see something like this happening. It would be interesting to see the monsters interacting with the world after they were released from the Underground. But it’s nice to see these characters in a more casual setting, just having fun.

She s The Best Nurse On Campus

Via: farisato.deviantart.com, artstation.com (Ruby Kim) Since it came out, Overwatch has exploded into popularity, and it doesn’t seem to be settling down anytime soon. But with the wide array of characters and some awesome fighting mechanics, who wouldn’t love this game? (I just hope they eventually do some sort of 1-player storyline, because that would be awesome!) But let’s look at Mercy. Mercy is the healing character and the designated doctor in this group of heroes. She’s kind, but strong. I have no doubt that Mercy would be going to medical school in this college scenario. She would probably be at the top of her class. I also really like her look in the second picture since it’s a bit different from how we normally see her. Mercy with a tattoo is just awesome, and I could see her getting one. Art by .

These Two Look Pretty Awesome

Via: celestialkiri.tumblr.com, ninami.deviantart.com World of Warcraft has quite the wide variety of characters to have fun with. The designs of all these unique individuals alone is pretty impressive. They set the bar pretty high for all fantasy games to come. And their characters fit the fantasy setting so well. But how would these characters look in a more modern setting? I really do like these two characters, Jamba and Nefara, in a college setting mostly because they look very different compared to the other characters on this list. Seeing a non-human character in casual human clothes is very intriguing. But they also look amazing in modern casual clothes. I would love to imagine these two going through normal, everyday struggles of a college student, like studying for finals, grocery shopping, etc. Art by and .

Don t Let Her Pretty Face Fool You

Via: brakken.tumblr.com, rainbowd00dles.tumblr.com Since her first appearance in the Legend of Zelda games, Princess Zelda has always been a rather classy lady. She is a graceful and dignified princess, but she’s also a stealthy ninja thanks to her training under Impa. And let’s not forget that she has some incredibly powerful light magic. No matter what she’s studying, I know that Zelda would set out to change the world. So, what would Zelda study in college? You know, I’m not completely sure. I could see her going to a business college, or maybe diplomacy. Zelda would be this business student that seems super serious on the outside, but when you get to know her, you find out she’s also talented at random things like throwing ninja stars, playing the harp, etc. No matter what she’s studying, I know that Zelda would set out to change the world, and she’ll totally do it. Art by and .

They re A Pretty Cute Couple

Via: drisrt.tumblr.com, kisu-no-hi.tumblr.com Fenris and Hawke are a pretty awesome duo in Dragon Age 2. Their story is rather interesting since Fenris is a former slave and experiment who’s now Hawke’s companion. And they can even become a couple, which is pretty cool. I like their interactions because you can see that Fenris has a lot of emotional baggage, but he does slowly open up to Hawke more. And these two in a college setting would be pretty sweet. I don’t know what they would study, but I could see the two just doing homework together, spending time at each other’s places, etc. I also love the idea of Hawke with a full sleeve tattoo on his arm. It seems to fit him pretty well. These two could be seen as an odd couple, but I think they’re very cute together, especially in a modern-day setting. Art by and .

He s The Coolest Hedgehog On Campus

Via: chillisart.tumblr.com, collegehumor.com (Kailyn Boehm) Who would’ve thought a speedy blue hedgehog would become so popular in the gaming world? This guy was definitely Sega’s legacy, and he’s become almost as iconic as Mario. Sonic has had several video games and even a couple of TV shows. This guy has done pretty well for himself. I can’t really imagine Sonic in a college setting, but the idea of it is both pretty hilarious and interesting. Sonic would totally be a track star or at least be in something sports related. (Would having Sonic on your team count as cheating?) I don’t know what he’d actually study, though. Sonic doesn’t really seem like the type of guy who'd be interesting in higher education. But it would be interesting to see this crazy hedgehog handle the struggles of college life Art by and Kailyn Boehm.

They re Friends For Life

Via: instagram.com (ctchrysler) Whether you got introduced to these two characters through Super Smash Bros. or you were lucky enough to play the Fire Emblem games they starred in, Roy and Marth have become pretty popular characters. In fact, it’s partially thanks to their appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee that the Fire Emblem games were eventually released internationally and not just in Japan. So how would these two be in a college setting? Well, according to this artist, they would totally be workout buddies. And I could see it. These two probably would be on a couple of athletic teams. I wonder what sports they would play? I could see Marth doing something like track. And Roy could probably kick behind in baseball. Whatever they’re doing, these two would have a blast in college. Art by Ctchrysler.

She Deserves A Happy Life

Via: mooseman-draws.tumblr.com, biggreenpepper.deviantart.com It’s kind of interesting how much art has been devoted to Chell from the Portal games, considering this girl never says a word throughout the games. But she has become pretty popular, though probably not as popular as the AI Wheatley. But hey, this snarky robot is pretty hilarious. So how would these two be in a college setting? Well, they’d look pretty nice! Apparently, a lot of people ship Chell with Wheatley (usually a human version of Wheatley), and I have to say they do look pretty cute as a couple. I could see these two meeting in college and getting together pretty quickly. Maybe Chell would talk in this situation, or maybe she’d still be mute. I could see Wheatley studying something like Computer Science. Maybe both Wheatley and Chell would be studying that and that’s where they met. (Hey, it’s a cute idea!) Art by and .

He s Dark Not Soulless

Via: xbooxbooxbear.deviantart.com The idea of fighting a dark version of yourself is not a new concept to gaming (or entertainment in general), so it’s not all that surprising that Pit from Kid Icarus has a dark clone of himself. Dark Pit is a bit more serious and arrogant than his lighter counterpart, but he is a pretty interesting character. And he even becomes Pit’s ally, in the end, proving that you don’t always have to fight your dark side. Dark Pit as a college student is interesting. And this artist sees him just chilling and playing the guitar, which seems rather fitting for him. Considering how independent Dark Pit is, I don’t know if he would find higher education all that interesting. He would totally be that student that would argue with the professors. Art by .

They Should Do A Project Together

Via: twitter.com (Karina Farek) We’ve got another Overwatch entry! And this time, it’s Jesse Mcree and the Shimada brothers: Hanzo and Genji. Each of these characters has their own interesting backstory, and a lot of fans like to think that these three are pretty close. The Shimada brothers story, in particular, is one full of pain, sorrow, and redemption. So how would they be in a college scenario? I wonder if these three all lived in the same apartment. This artist put the three as all going to art school. Jesse is a photographer, Hanzo is an illustrator, and Genji is a comic book artist. I really like that this Hanzo kept the tattoos. Genji with green hair is an interesting idea, but it seems to fit him pretty well. I wonder if these three all lived in the same apartment or something. That would be pretty entertaining. Art by Dilfosaur.

They re Two Sides Of The Same Coin

fuckyeahffboys.tumblr.com, kingd0mheartz.tumblr.com Who would’ve thought that a game that combined characters from Final Fantasy and Disney movies would become so popular? The setting of Kingdom Hearts is a bit of a weird juxtaposition, but it ended up taking off in a big way. And at the center of these games were the wide variety of characters. Two particularly interesting ones were Vanitas and Ventus. This is another case of one character being a dark version of another character. Vanitas is the personification of the darkness in Ventus’ heart and is the main antagonist in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. But these artists have reimagined these two in a more modern setting. It looks like the two are on better terms in these art pieces. I could see the two becoming friends, especially since Vanitas did care for and miss Ventus. Art by and .

These Siblings Would Totally Start A Band

Via: chibichangas.tumblr.com Fire Emblem Fates was unique to the Fire Emblem franchise in that it was split into three storylines technically, depending on the choices you make as Corrin. It was a rather interesting series, showing the struggles one may have in choosing between the kingdom you were from and the kingdom you were raised in. Technically, this artist has reimagined the Hoshida siblings as a rock band, but I could see a group of college kids getting together and starting a band. And I could see the Royal siblings of Hoshida being in a band. I love the designs of these siblings; they all seem to fit rather well. Ryoma would totally be a guitarist, I could see Hinoka doing something like drums, and Takumi would probably be the bassist. Sakura would probably be a singer, though she’d have to get over her stage fright. Art by .

She Would Be The Sassiest College Student

Via: vasirasart.tumblr.com, flying-fox.deviantart.com Midna is probably the best companion that Link has had throughout the Zelda series. Not only is she incredibly powerful, but she’s also probably one of the sassiest and most entertaining characters in the entire series. I also really liked that we didn’t really know if Midna was on Link’s side in the beginning. She was definitely one of the more morally grey characters in the game. Midna in college would be awesome. I could see her having a skater punk style, but also being very classy. Either style would fit this Twili very well. Midna would probably study something like international studies, though I don’t know if diplomacy would be her strong suit. I could also see her getting into art and going to art school. Art by and .

They re Just Too Cute

Via: maria65.deviantart.com I think a lot of people weren’t that familiar with Xenoblade Chronicles until Shulk showed up in Super Smash Bros. Wii U, which is a shame because it’s a pretty awesome series. You’re fighting off Mechons with a huge sword; what more could you want? And at the center of it is Shulk, who’s a pretty awesome swordsman. Shulk would totally just be chilling in a hoodie. This artist wanted to take Shulk and Fiora and put them in a modern setting, and I have to say they look very cute! Shulk would totally just be chilling in a hoodie and Fiora has a great casual style going on. You can tell these two are pretty close. I could see Fiora going into cooking school, or she’d probably be on a sports team. Shulk would totally be in the martial arts club, or maybe fencing. Art by .

These Two Would Take The World By Storm

Via: ghoulwife.deviantart.com If you ever want to know what it would be like to live in a post-apocalyptic nuclear fallout world, definitely check out the Fallout series. Fallout 4 brought new adventures, including a pretty wide variety of characters. And two of these were Danse and Hancock, which were about as opposite as you could get. So how would these guys look in a less apocalyptic setting? According to this artist, the two would look pretty good! I think Hancock looks pretty awesome in a beanie, and Danse has a pretty sweet jacket. I could see Hancock going into something like politics or leadership. Danse would probably be in the ROTC. It would be interesting to see these two interact in this college setting since they are pretty different. Art by .
