After Potter 25 Things We Learned About Harry Potter After The Series Ended
Harry Potter might be over, but J.K. Rowling isn't quite done with the series, judging by these revelations that came after the franchise ended. Though the Harry Potter books and films series will always have a large and important place in my heart, sometimes I find myself preferring the information we’ve learned about the wizarding world since the series has officially concluded. I know that some people have strong opinions about authors who do not know when to put their pen down and walk away. Some may think that Rowling should just move on and let the series go, but there are still so many things that we don’t know about the wizarding world and that need to be addressed. But I honestly have fallen so much deeper in love with the series since it concluded. Since the books officially ended and the original film series released its final project, fans have turned to Pottermore in order to get their Potter fix. And boy, has it delivered. Through this unique and exciting platform (as well as many other places including Bloomberg, live interviews, and her personal Twitter account), Rowling has revealed several long-held secrets and recent revelations about the series (past, present, and future). She has revealed that Hogwarts is not the only school in the wizarding world, how wizard and muggle histories have overlapped and intertwined since the dawn of time, what happened to these characters between the battle and the epilogue, how the trio is doing now, and so many other amazing things that we would have never known otherwise. So, without further ado, allow me to present to you this list of twenty-five things that we have discovered about the wizarding world since the series was officially concluded. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Arrested At Last
Via Know Your Meme If I were to take the time to list every single crime and heinous act that Dolores Umbridge committed during her lifetime, I would continue working on that list until my final days. When those centaurs carried Umbridge off at the end of the fifth film, I can guarantee that every single person in the entire world was cheering. She was mean and she got what she deserved. So imagine my surprise, anger, and utter desolation when she, somehow, made her way back into the series and continued to cause trouble for the good people of the wizarding world. But fear not, good people of the internet, for I bring good news. It turns out that Dolores Umbridge was severely punished for every single crime she committed and actually ended up being jailed for her crimes. Good riddance, we won't miss you at all. Rose Coloured World
Via Bookstr The dementors were honestly one of the most terrifying parts of the series. Their appearance in the third book and film marked the end of the childlike innocence that colored the first two films and thrust the series (and its characters) into a monster-filled journey defined by loss and heartache which was broken up by brief moments of pure joy. But fans of the series will be pleased to know that the dementors are a thing of the past. The wizarding world has become a place of happiness, levity, and love- which lead to the rapid extinction of the dementors for there was no misery left to feed them. Not to get all emotional on you, but I genuinely think that that is beautiful. The sadness left the world and, with that, so did those who fed off of that pain. A Change Of Heart
Via Wiki The centaurs have remained apathetic towards humans (both muggle and wizard alike) since the dawn of time. Since they can essentially see all that will come and has been, they’ve decided to leave the humans to their own devices. But their general apathy veered towards a sense of disgust towards humans. The humans own the outside world, the centaurs own the forest, and there is no need for the two to ever interact. But Firenze did not see things that way, which caused a rift between him and his centaur peers. However, the centaurs were singing a different tune after the battle of Hogwarts. After seeing the wizards fight with everything they have for survival, the centaurs developed a bit of a soft spot for the species and their horse hearts grew three sizes that day. Their apathy turned into a sense of compassion and the divide was demolished. The Bravest Man I Have Ever Known
via: pinterest.com Yes, I know the title quote is referring to Snape but, personally, I feel like the man who quit his job to protect Dumbledore from a barrage of hate mail, denied his true love in order to keep her and his future child safe, and sacrificed everything for the greater good deserves the titles so much more than Professor Friend Zone. And, thankfully, someone at the Ministry of Magic agrees with me because Remus Lupin finally got the recognition and admiration he deserved after his gallant display at the battle of Hogwarts. After his heroic sacrifice, Lupin was posthumously awarded the Order of Merlin, first class, I might add. He became the first werewolf to ever receive such recognition and honor and this award helped dismantle many of the stereotypes and stigmas wizarding society had against his kind. Expanded Lore
Via Pinterest For years we thought that there was only Hogwarts. We believe that what we saw was what we got and honestly, it was more than we could ever ask for. We were satisfied. Imagine our surprise when the fourth book was released and we realized that Hogwarts was not the only wizarding school in the entire magical universe. We never expected these new details and leaped at the chance to find out anything we could about this magical world. After the series had officially ended, we all found ourselves thirsting for new content. Any new content. And boy, did Rowling deliver. Not only did she reveal that there are actually eleven wizarding schools scattered across the entire globe, but Rowling also revealed the deep and rich history of the wizarding kind, including details about laws, settlers, and how their histories blended in with our Muggle histories as well. First Love Scorned
Via Popbuzz When the fandom’s two favorite quirky and misunderstood underdogs, Neville and Luna, finally got together at the end of the series, everyone rejoiced (except for Neville and Ginny shippers, of course). Not only did Neville finally get the courage to admit his feelings for Hogwarts’ favorite weirdo but she also returned his affections. The ship had sailed and everyone was on board. But Rowling decided to be captain of the fun police and sink our ship before it even left the docks. After the series concluded, she revealed that Neville and Luna’s love did not last. It was explained that Neville and Luna simply wanted different things in life. Luna craved to travel across the globe while what Neville truly craved was a quiet life at home. So they went their separate ways, remained friends, and married partners more suited to their personal needs and goals. Insecurities And Lies
Via Fanpop Every time Umbridge is depicted, she reminds us that she values wizarding status and “purity” of the family line above all else. She mocks the centaurs, tries to fire Hagrid due to his gigantic roots, and dehumanizes all those that she believes to be beneath her. But after the series concluded, it was revealed that Umbridge was not as pure as she claimed. It turns out that her own mother was a muggle. When her younger brother was born without any magical ability at all, she and her father abandoned them and created an elaborate and completely fake family tree for them to hide behind. No wonder she was the face of the “anti-muggle born” movement in the final books. It protected her from being exposed and disposed of herself. A True Flower Child
Via Giphy Kids who face adversity in school tend to do better later in life. So I was always fascinated to see what would become of Luna Lovegood. What kind of adult would she grow up to be? What would she contribute to the world? Sadly, she was left out of the epilogue in the final book, so fans literally had no idea what came of their favorite daydreamer until Rowling revealed the information on an episode of The Today Show. It turns out that Luna is thriving in adulthood. Luna dedicated a large portion of her post-Hogwarts life to traveling the world and uncovering various magical creatures. During her travels, she fell in love with Rolf Scamander (grandson of Newt Scamander) and they had two children. I will tell you what, any room with both Newt and Luna in it is a room that I would like to be in. Fight For Your Right To Be Sorted
Via Wattpad The entire sorting process is a bit of a mess. I mean come on: we’re supposed to judge the assessment of a magical hat. And like Dumbledore, sometimes I feel as though that the children are sorted too early and would benefit from an elective resorting later in their academic careers. But I will admit that sometimes the sorting hat does get it right. Sometimes he places a child exactly where they need to be, even if that child cannot see it themselves. Up until the final book, many people questioned Neville’s position in Gryffindor. Many believed that he would have been more at home in Hufflepuff… including Neville. After the series concluded, it was revealed that Neville literally begged the hat to place him in Hufflepuff but the hat knew that this boy would never realize his true potential if he was not forced to do so. Magical Limitations
Via Wiki It’s a curious thing, the Patronus charm. Most spells take training, a focused mind, and a calm disposition to execute perfectly. The Patronus charm, on the other hand, is a spell that is only performed in intense situations when the wizard cannot focus on the pressure, the danger they are facing, nor the spell itself. To properly perform this charm, one must completely lose oneself in a blissful memory from their past. The spell will not work if you think of anything else. People with immense evil, pain, or corruption in their hearts will struggle to perform one due to the constant negativity swirling around inside them. In fact, Rowling revealed that the Death Eaters were never able to create a full-bodied Patronus after working with Tom Riddle. Luckily, the dementors were on their side or else things could have really gone sideways for them during that battle. When Will My Reflection Show Who I Am Inside
Via Twitter Dementor attacks are no joke. I mean, not even Dudley deserves to have his soul literally sucked out of his body like that. But that terrifying incident might have been the exact thing that Dudley needed. Before his run-in with the dementors, Dudley spent his life mocking and belittling others. However, something happened that night that scared him straight. After that night, he tried to mend the burnt bridge between him and Harry and permanently changed his ways. But why? Well, it turns out that Dudley had a vision, of sorts, while he was being taken down by those dementors. He saw himself, exactly how he was, and he did not like it. He suddenly realized that he did not recognize the person that he had become and that he needed to make a big change as soon as possible. Head Boy
Via Fanpop Now, this fact might come as a bit of a surprise to readers because, even though we all love Harry, we have to admit that he was awful at school. He did not try, convinced Hermione to do his work more often than not, and the majority of his magical successes were the result of dumb luck. I’m not saying that he was a bad wizard. But I do believe that the majority of his wins came from luck rather than dedication to his craft. But regardless of how he did it, he saved the wizarding world so many times that he decided that he might as well make a career out of it so that he can get paid to do the job that no one else is going to do. After graduation, Harry became an Auror and by 2007, he was named the head of the Auror department. With Friends Like These
Via Giphy I’ve always wondered why Draco would bother extending the hand of friendship to Harry if he was going to immediately insult him afterward, but luckily for me, the mystery has been solved as Rowling revealed the reason why Draco approached Harry in the first place. It turns out that Lucius believed that Harry was going to be the next big thing in the evil world. He believed Harry would become the next dark lord. Therefore, Draco believed that the best course of action would be getting as close to Harry as possible so that the future evil Harry would know that his loyalty would never waver. However, once he saw Harry chatting it up on the train with Ron and (briefly) Hermione, he knew that his father was wrong and that Harry did not have an evil bone in his muggle loving body. Riddle Me This
Via Celebs Clothing In a long-awaited interview with Bloomsbury, Rowling finally revealed the names of the people that Tom Riddle eliminated in order to create his many Horcruxes. Moaning Myrtle was used to turn his childhood diary into the Horcrux Harry unknowingly encounters. Hepzibah Smith was eliminated in order to turn the Hufflepuff Cup into a Horcrux (which is an insult to Hufflepuffs everywhere). A homeless muggle “helped” create the locket and an Albanian peasant was used to create the Horcrux that lied within the diadem. Bertha Jorkins was sacrificed for Nagini, and his own father perished to place a Horcrux within Marvolo Gaunt’s ring. I think that knowing their names gives Tom Riddle’s victims some dignity. It’s always important to remember the names of people, in real life and in fiction, whose lives are taken away from them so that we never forget the cruelties that befell them. A Different Backstory
Via Imgur Though I was completely willing to spend the rest of my life not knowing a single thing about McGonagall outside of her life at Hogwarts, I have to admit my love and admiration for McGonagall has grown tenfold since reading up on her tragic backstory. In summary, McGonagall’s mother spent her life trying to keep her own powers secret from her husband was outed and fled when her three children displayed magical abilities. Shell-shocked by this, McGonagall left the love of her life out of fear that the same thing would happen to her. Though she settled down, her happily ever after was cut short when he was bitten by a tentacula. She dedicated the rest of her life to Hogwarts. Though she never had any children, I can guarantee that she loved the marauders, the golden trio, and the next generation as if they were her own. The Reputation
Via Tumblr Unlike the uplifting and humorous updates, anecdotes, and secrets we’ve uncovered in the rest of this article, this item on our list is both upsetting and disappointing. It turns out that the members of the wizarding world would have benefited greatly from reading the Harry Potter books themselves. These modern wizards still harbor the same prejudices. They did not listen to a single world Neville said about division nor did they absorb anything Harry did to prove that people aren’t their parents or any stereotypes that the world might throw at them. It has been revealed that the children that are sorted into Slytherin are still struggling with being labeled as villainous for simply being sorted into this house. Yes, there are a lot of dark figures that came out of this house. That doesn’t mean that every single member of that house will be evil. Keeping Up With The Potters
Via Nicole's Novel Reads Though Rita Skeeter is not the most reliable source, her post-series news snippet that covered the Potter’s attendance at a Quidditch game was a beautiful update into the post-war lives of the trio. While it confirmed that the trio are relative celebrities in the wizarding world, the confusion that Harry’s children display following the attention they receive at Kings Cross shows that Harry raised them outside of the fanfare. Imagine their surprise when they arrive at school and find out how their parents spent their youth. Harry to grew up to be a sweet, humble, and appreciative young man, and it’s good that he decided to raise his own children outside of the fanfare as well. Nothing is worse than a child who feels entitled to things and believes that people should worship the ground they walk on just because of who their father is.... Amicable Enemies
Via MuggleNet Note: this entry, along with the rest of this article, does not recognize the existence of The Cursed Child. After Dudley’s jarring face off with his true self, he decided to change things up to prevent himself from spending the rest of his life as a monster. And by the seventh and final book in the series, Dudley was singing an entirely different tune. He opened his heart to Harry and tried to reach out but both acknowledged and respected the fact that years of torment prevented him from ever being able to fully connect with his cousin. Draco underwent a similar transformation when he realized that his father was leading him down the wrong path. Though Harry was never able to establish lasting friendships with these two former enemies, they were able to become civil towards each other in order to allow relationships to flourish among their children. The Struggle
Via Favim Though I was grateful that the book skipped the fallout of the battle of Hogwarts, sometimes I wonder what exactly went down during those nineteen years. How did the children deal with the things that they had witnessed? How did they overcome the loss and move forward? What were the lasting impacts of this intense struggle? Though the specific details of the aftermath of the battle have yet to be confirmed (and most likely never will out of respect for the privacy of those in mourning), Rowling has confirmed that the events of the battle impacted each and every person that survived it and that some of its effects will never leave those who lived through it. I’d like to think that the trio organized a series of Muggle-style group therapy sessions in order to help each other overcome the biggest hurdles in the recovery process. Ginerva Take No Prisoners Potter
Via Amino Apps Like Luna, Ginny prioritized her career in the years after the battle of Hogwarts. She dedicated her early years of adulthood to becoming one of the greatest quidditch players in the world. She played for the Holyhead Harpies and rocked it. And I can guarantee that Harry was there, at every single match, cheering his girlfriend (and eventually, wife) on from the stands. Face paint and all. However, one cannot maintain an athletic career for the rest of their life and, eventually, one has to retire. After having her children, Ginny decided to retire from the sport and, instead, became a sports journalist. But I am willing to bet that it took a bit of effort to get Ginny off that broom. I can picture her, six months pregnant, stubbornly trying to convince her teammates to let her play after spending half of the game shouting plays from the stands.
