During its most recent financial report, Nintendo revealed that Epic’s battle royale game has been installed on nearly half of all Switch consoles. Via: polygon.com Fortnite’s inexorable push towards world domination continues. The latest figures reveal that almost half of all global Nintendo Switch owners have downloaded the game! It’s strange to even think it, but Fortnite began life as the plucky little battle royale. Its battle royale functionality wasn’t even the main mode, come to that, just a little side attraction. Fast-forward to today, and how the game has risen. Battle royale is the genre everyone in the industry wants a slice of just now, and Fortnite is leading the charge. With PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds floundering a little of late (though ), Fortnite is marauding around largely unchecked. Schoolchildren are playing it, world-famous athletes are playing it… it just cannot and will not be stopped. It’s been a huge hit on consoles, mobile and everywhere else, and was happily adopted by Nintendo gamers when it arrived on the Switch during this year’s E3. Their plucky little purple funbox reached a total of 21.74 million units sold around the world during its lifetime, while Nintendo’s latest financial report reveals that Switch has just broken 22.86 million. How many of those systems have downloaded Fortnite since its release? “Nearly half,” as reports. We don't have precise figures, but that’s a staggering estimate of around 11 million Fortnite players and an attachment rate that you absolutely cannot argue with. Now, granted, the fact that Fortnite is a free download will have absolutely helped its case. Let’s also point out that this doesn’t mean that everybody who downloaded the game is still playing it, of course.
