25 Things Wrong With Fallout 76 We All Choose To Ignore

Fallout 76 isn't the game we all expected but some people are having fun with it! Still, here are 25 things terribly wrong with the title. I don’t want this title to be misleading; everyone is well aware that a large group of people doesn't care for this game. It has a ton of issues and a lot of people have already jumped off this game, myself included, but there are a lot of people enjoying it regardless. It seems to be the most talked about game of the fall, and maybe Bethesda went for the “any press is good press” mantra and it worked. Even if you are one of those people that are going for 100% with this game, you’ll have to admit that there are some problems in this game. There have been plenty of games that have a ton of problems and I still play them and, sometimes, love that game. I actually really liked Mass Effect: Andromeda despite it being the worst Mass Effect game, so I get liking extremely flawed games. I don’t want to paint that Fallout 76 is the most broken game ever made and a waste of time to play. It’s very flawed but there’s something there and that brings us to this list! I want to talk about some of the glaring problems with this game that some choose to kinda “meh” at and keep playing. It seems like this game has a few more problems than most games released now and that is a bit surprising seeing how deep we are past Fallout 3, but here we are. So let’s dissect Fallout 76! THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Using Melee Weapons

via: vgchartz.com To be fair, I have never liked the melee combat in Elder Scrolls/Fallout games, but that still doesn’t excuse how poor it feels. I feel like I’m swinging a 2x4 and have no control over what I’m doing. It’s even worse in third-person. I’m not saying that the melee combat has to be Dark Souls level good or anything, but it needs to feels better. If nothing else, give it a Dying Light feel so it feels impactful and I have some control over what I’m doing.

Always Being Over Encumbered

via: windowscentral.com The weight limit in your inventory has always been a thing in Fallout games, but this game has the lowest to date! You can get strength perk cards to up the weight, but even then it’s still an issue. For this game to be all about exploring and finding new weapons and armor it really needs to let the players pick up the stuff they want. I’m not saying to take it away entirely, but having it be expanded and not having to constantly worry about it would do wonders.

The Story Or Lack Of

via: tryrolling.com To me, the story of the Fallout games has been the main draw for seeing the main story to completion. For whatever reason, they chose to basically get rid of a traditional story in this game and yeah, that’s not great! It does have a story that focuses around finding nukes and trying to get rid of them and dealing with the scorched beasts. The problem is that it’s all told through holo tapes and terminals and you lose so much with that! Even if they just went with a Destiny type of story that would’ve been something!

Frame Rate Issues

via: geekcosmos.com Boy, the frame rate with this game is all over the place! I know that Bethesda games have had issues with this in the past, but it legit gets so bad in this game that the game will just full-on stop for a few seconds! Even playing on an Xbox One X, the frame rate dipped in the teens at certain points The main draw of these games is exploration and having the game freeze so often really breaks the fantasy. Frame rate this bad just isn’t acceptable in a 2018 game!

Fast Travel Costing Caps

via: bethesda.net I normally don’t mind having a system like this in a game like this, but it just bothers me in this game. I think it’s because this is the biggest map they have ever made and it just feels off to charge the player caps to fast travel. You do get to fast travel to your camp for free, but that’s it. Horizon Zero Dawn charged you to fast travel, but there was an item you could get to negate that and this game needs one of those badly, or just patch that out!

Taking Workshops

via: vgr.com This is one of those things that I understand why it’s this way, but that doesn’t mean it’s good and I have to like it. There are workshops all over the map and you can take them over to get resources in large quantities. Once you log off they go back to being unoccupied. It seems redundant to build on them and worry about protecting them too much unless your play sessions are super long. You do get a good bit of resources, but knowing you don’t get to keep it almost makes it pointless.

No Character Voice

via: reddit.com I find it odd that Fallout 4 gave our character a voice for the first time in the series and the very next game took it away! I know this is more of a personal taste thing, but I found that to be very disappointing. Seeing that this game lacks much of a story, I guess that’s why they did it, but still. They chose to go the classic MMO route with your character and she/he is basically a silent protagonist. I think it’s lame, but I might be in the minority with that.

Enemies Respawn

via: ign.com Speaking of this game feeling like an MMO, the enemies respawn in areas when you leave the area. I know a lot of games do this, but normally Bethesda games don’t do this. It’s just an annoying thing that got old to me. There was a quest and I had to go into a building a few times during the course of it, and the enemies came back every time! The same enemies, in the same spots, and it just gets old when every place in the game is like that!

PvP

via: playstation.com A big selling point for this game is the multiplayer, but man is it underwhelming once you get into it. Firstly, there can only be 24 players on a server at a time, so the odds of you randomly seeing someone is pretty low. I will say that I like the system they have where you don’t have to participate in multiplayer if you don’t want, but other than that, it’s pretty meh. The main aspect of multiplayer is co-op and that seems to work fine. It just seems they would’ve taken a page out of GTA Online or Red Dead Online but they didn't.

Perk Cards Are Confusing

via: pcgamer.com Instead of having a perk screen where you level up in this game they chose to go with a card system instead. It’s fine but can be a tad confusing and it doesn’t need to be. You get at least one new card every time you level up. Sometimes you get a new pack but you’re guaranteed at least one with every level up. You can combine duplicate cards to level them up and that can be frustrating when you want to upgrade a specific perk.

Microtransactions

via: polygon.com It’s kind of just the lay of the land for games in 2018 to have microtransactions, but that doesn’t mean we still can’t complain about them! I normally don’t mind them, I’ll defend Battlefront 2, but they just seem out of place here a tad! You use atoms to buy stuff, and they can be earned in-game or bought. It's are all cosmetic, so they’re ultimately harmless, but when a game is shipped this broken there's just something about seeing them that rubs me the wrong way.

Thirst And Hunger

via: shacknews.com Before this game came out they were saying that it was going to be"survival light," and basically what that means is that you have to deal with thirst and hunger. This is another personal take, but I don’t care for systems like that being a must. I like when it’s an option, like it was when they added Survival Mode to Fallout 4. It does end up not being that big of a deal, but it is something that you will have to deal with a few times every hour.

Large Updates

via: reddit.com The nature of games in 2018 is that you will more than likely need to download updates, but normally they aren’t that big of a deal. A few days after Fallout 76 launched, a patch came out and it was almost as big of a download as the game! It was around 50gb on all systems. Now, a download that big better fix/do a lot of changing but it didn’t! It fixed a few frame rate issues but that was about it. They can’t expect people to download any more of those with the base game!

No Push To Talk

via: polygon.com To be fair, they have said that this will be fixed but at launch, but it isn’t and it’s very annoying. Basically what’s going on here is that if you have a mic plugged in then all the people around you can hear you. So if you get in a server with someone who is streaming you will hear them talking to their chat and it’s so weird! Now, you’ll only hear them if they are close to you, but this is still a problem and you can’t turn it off at the moment.

Pop-Ins

via: usgamer.com There were so many times that I logged back on and my character didn’t have a body for a solid 20-30 seconds and all that had to load in. I mainly played this game in third-person, so I noticed that, and if you play in first you may never see that. I was basically a floating head walking around. The environments do the same thing! You’ll get to the top on a vista and the environment isn’t leaded in yet or get up close to a building and the textures aren’t loaded. This happens all over the place!

Change To V A T S

via: pcgamer.com V.A.T.S. has always been one of the cornerstones that makes the Fallout games different and it’s totally changed in this game. It’s basically an auto-aim now, and that’s not what most people thought it was going to be. I get that it needed to change, since this is an online game, but they turned an awesome feature into something that’s just lame. It’s so weird to see in action because it’s basically bullet curving like in the movie Wanted and that was all masked with how it used to be.

Storage Container Space

via: rockpapershotgun.com This is a major issue at the moment, since one of the points of these games is to collect cool armor and weapons! You build a storage container at your camp so you can store your stuff, but it’s oddly limited. At the moment, you can only hold 400 pounds as of now. Now that’s pounds, not items. I would think that they will update this in the future, but they have not as of now and it’s an issue.

Getting Diseased

via: polygon.com I honestly didn’t think this was going to be as big of a thing as it is. There are so many minor things you can do in this game that will give you a disease. Now, most aren’t a big deal, but some increase your hunger and thirst and those can be super annoying! Try not to sleep on the ground or eat spoiled food, and you should be okay as far as things you do on the regular. Diseased Cures heal you of any disease, but they are rare to come across.

Enemy Scaling

via: ign.com Regardless of what level you’re at in Fallout 76, going into different areas, enemies can have random levels. I was following the story and ran into Super Mutants and robots in the same area and they were all different levels. This game turned enemies into bullet sponges. It can be very annoying, because I was doing a ton of side stuff and was still having trouble taking some enemies down. To be fair, I play these kinds of games on easy, so that could be why I ran into this. There’s no difficulty setting in this game.

Server Issues

via: a90skid.com Boy, I ran into so many server problems while paying this! It’s pretty common to run into those during the first week of a new game, but they normally aren’t this bad. I got disconnected almost every session I played and that’s unacceptable in an online game. One time I was doing a daily event and was one step away from finishing it, got disconnected, and lost all my progress in that event! I was not happy, and that needs to be fixed because losing that kind of progress is a big no for me!
