20 Nintendo Sequels Fans Pretend Don t Exist
Nintendo has made a lot of great games over the years, but fans like to pretend that these ones never happened. Nintendo is known for having quite a few popular series like The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, Pokémon, and more. When it comes to making great games and good sequels, it seems like Nintendo has it down pretty well. My favorite series would have to be The Legend of Zelda series. I love most of the games, and I’m always excited to see what Nintendo has in store for Zelda fans next. Each new game is usually going to be pretty interesting and full of new characters, new monsters, and new adventures. While not all the games are perfect, most of them have at least some positive elements to them. But Nintendo doesn’t always get it right. When you make that many games, not all of them are going to be instant winners or even do well. And Nintendo has made some pretty terrible games within its own series, especially sequels. To be fair, making sequels in general can be tricky since you’ve got to create a balance of what made the first games so good while incorporating new things to make the new game not feel stale or unoriginal. Nintendo usually does a good job with sequels, but that’s not always the case. There are some pretty bad Nintendo sequels out there. So here are 20 Nintendo sequels that gamers usually try to forget about (or don’t remember in the first place.) Let’s begin the walk of shame! Think we missed some spectacularly bad games? Make sure to let us know in the comments section below! THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY We Don t Speak Of These Games
Via: nintendolife.com I put Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: Wand of Gamelon together since they’re both games that were made for the computer, and they were both equally bad. Most Zelda fans probably don’t know this game exists, and the ones that do know try to forget. There’s so many things wrong with these games that I don’t know where to start. The biggest issue is the cut scenes that have absolutely ugly animation. Seriously, they look like something out of a nightmare. And the game mechanics are rough and just unpleasant. In general, these games are ones that I think even Nintendo tries to forget about. It’s little wonder why we haven’t seen Zelda games for PCs since. This Squad Didn t Do So Well
Via: youtube.com (Zephiel810) The Kirby franchise is actually one of the few franchises where the games are generally pretty consistent. Even the games that aren’t as good still aren’t considered horrible. But there are games that aren’t as popular as others. Kirby: Squeak Squad is one of those games that wasn’t as good. While it’s not a terrible game, it’s also nothing special either. So, it becomes a more forgettable game, even though it’s actually not that bad. The biggest problem it has is that it’s not very original, which makes it a bit boring to players. But hey, at least people don’t hate it. This Game Ended The Franchise
Via: youtube.com (PARADIGM) Mega Man started out as a pretty great series, and it become the iconic game for side scrolling. But then they tried to change things up in Mega Man X7, and make things 3D. When you change things, you should commit. It probably would’ve been okay if they had committed fully. But since they didn’t, it didn’t look great and the controls were all wonky. And the game itself wasn’t very good. This made Mega Man X7 the dark blight on the series that ultimately ended it. They did come out with Mega Man X8 to make up for it, but by then, the damage had been done. Though maybe they’ll bring the series back one day. The Name s Not Bond
Via: jamesbond.wikia.com GoldenEye was a huge hit when it was released. After all, who wouldn’t want to play as James Bond shooting at various enemies? It was a fun first-person shooter that gamers really enjoyed. So of course, Nintendo tried to make another one. And it didn’t go well. GoldenEye: Rogue Agent doesn’t even have you playing as James Bond; you’re just some agent with the code name Goldeneye. The story was bland, the gameplay was terrible, and it was just a bad game all around. It’s little wonder that EA let Activision purchase the license. Sometimes, you really shouldn’t mess with a good thing. The Third Time Is Not The Charm
Via: smwcentral.net Castlevania did a lot of great things for gaming. It had an interesting story, great gameplay, and a creepy atmosphere. It became an instant classic and is regarded as one of the best adventure games. Plus, you get to fight vampires, which is pretty awesome. But unfortunately, the following games didn’t do as well. While the 2nd game wasn’t too bad, Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse was just plain bad. The frustrating design of the game made playing it and beating it seem almost impossible. Between the inability to save life and experience points and very few weapons in the beginning, this game was just too hard and became a curse word for many gamers. It s Missing All The Good Stuff
Via: 7-themes.com The first Ninja Gaiden game was famous for being very fun and very hard. And the second game was just as fun and crazy as the first. And hey, you got to be a ninja, which is pretty awesome. But then Ninja Gaiden 3 came along. The 3rd game did not live up to its predecessors. This game took away all of the difficulty of the first two games and made it bland and boring, which is hard to do with ninjas. Basically, this game took a hard and complex series and took out all the things that made the series fun. Unfortunately, it’s this game that put the Ninja Gaiden series on a fritz. There hasn’t been a main series since and it probably isn’t happening anytime soon. Not What The Fans Were Looking For
via: twitter.com The Banjo Kazooie games were endlessly creative, had some awesome gameplay, and had very memorable characters. Plus, the bright colorful world and clever designs were pretty enjoyable to look at too. They definitely became very popular adventure games. And then Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts was released. This game in general felt boring and unfinished. They tried adding in an element where you had to build karts to get around in places, but it just felt bulky and unnecessary. Plus, the character designs were really weird; they looked incredibly angular and boxy. It almost looks like the designers didn’t care, or they were trying to be different. Either way, it looks bad. What Is Even Going On Here
Via: novogamer.com A lot of American fans don’t actually know that Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland exists since it wasn’t released in the U.S. It actually did pretty well and was fairly well-received by critics. But they did criticize it for boring dungeons and not having a very good battle system. But the thing about this game is that it’s just bizarre. It’s very different from any of the Zelda games, and it doesn’t even star any of the usual characters. It’s just Tingle and his wacky adventure. It’s not a terrible game, but it is a pretty weird one, and most American gamers found Tingle to be pretty creepy anyway, so I could see why this game probably wouldn’t do well in the States. Gritty Is Out
Via: xboxaddict.com The Bomberman games were known for being light, fun, and even a bit on the silly side. It was an entertaining game you could play with friends and family. But then Nintendo decided to try and make it all dark since that was the trend, which is where Bomberman: Act Zero comes in. And it didn’t go well. Some games just shouldn't be made dark. By this time, most fans were over gritty remakes, and it makes no sense to remake this game to be dark. The idea of Bomberman being this cybernetic mercenary is just weird. The game didn’t do well, and to this day, tends to be purposefully forgotten by all Bomberman fans. Some things just shouldn’t be made dark. Why Are We Learning Math
Via: youtube.com Very few educational games are actually entertaining (or even good), and when you try to combine an educational game with a popular game franchise, it usually doesn’t end well. But that didn’t stop Nintendo from making Donkey Kong Jr. Math (though they really shouldn’t have done it). Yeah, it’s as bad as it sounds. It’s basically a boring math game with some Donkey Kong characters. But just putting popular characters into a game doesn’t mean it’s going to be good. Put simply, this game was just plain bad, and most gamers tend to pretend this game never existed in the first place. A Total Character De-Evolution
Via: giantbomb.com It seemed like the Metroid series could do no wrong. Every game it had became a big hit and it was constantly pushing to do better. And then the Metroid Prime series came out and brought Metroid into 3D and it was an incredible transition. But then Metroid: Other M came out and things went downhill. They took Samus, this tough, awesome bounty hunter who doesn’t balk in the face of danger, and turned her into a whiny, petulant teenager that was just doing things for the approval of her superior. I get that you wanted to delve deeper into Samus’s character, but that’s not the way to do it, Nintendo. This Game Feels Off
Via: denofgeek.com The weird thing about Super Mario Bros. 2 was that the version the U.S. got was different from the version Japan got. For some reason, Nintendo thought the original Super Mario Bros. 2 was too hard for the American fans, so instead, they dubbed another game called Doki Doki Panic to make it the American Super Mario Bros 2. This game really doesn't feel like the others. While this game wasn’t bad, it was just weird since it had things like turnips instead of mushrooms. It was so different from the other Mario games, so a lot of gamers tend to ignore it when they think of the Mario Bros. games. Prequels Get it Wrong Too
Via: perfectdark.retropixel.net Perfect Dark was a great game for any first-person shooter lover. It played a lot like Goldeneye, but it had you playing as Joanna Dark, who was an awesome character. It was something new with a familiar set up. But they didn’t get it right in Perfect Dark: Zero. This is technically a prequel, but we’re counting it. They not only changed up Dark’s appearance and personality, but the game controls were stiff, the story wasn’t very interesting, and the voice acting was pretty cheesy. In general, compared to the greatness of the first game, Perfect Dark: Zero just didn’t measure up. Who Came Up With This Idea
Via: cafebazaar.ir The concept behind Pokémon Snap is incredibly simple. You just take pictures of Pokémon. That’s it. You can try to be stealthy and find good angles, but that’s pretty much all you do. The game itself isn’t too bad, and many gamers found to be kind of relaxing. While fans definitely don’t hate the game, it is a bit forgettable. Plus, it didn’t have any of the classic charm of the previous Pokémon games. So, it doesn’t really do anything for the series. It’s kind of a random game that was probably made just for the fun of it. Quite a few gamers do forget it exists, and those that do remember it just don’t really care. Dude Where s My Ship
Via: starfox.wikia.com The thing that’s most iconic about any of the Star Fox games is that it’s a game you play entirely from your ship. So, what happens when you take the player out of the ship? You get Star Fox Adventures. So we have Star Fox fighting... dinosaurs... While we do like to see games change it up, the fact that this game went so far in the other direction that the Star Fox games usually go was not a point in its favor. The game itself was okay, but it didn’t really feel like a Star Fox game. It was originally developed to be a completely different game called Dinosaur Planet, which may explain a few things. Either Love Or Hate This Game
Via: mobygames.com The Adventure of Link is an interesting game since it has a bit of a polarizing effect on Zelda fans. Some hate the fact that this game deviated away so sharply from the first game, while others liked the changes. This game may not be as hated as some others, but it’s definitely a less popular one in the series. What probably turned fans away from this game was the fact that it switched to a side scrolling game, did away with a lot of things that made the first Zelda game popular, and was rather notoriously difficult. It is one of the less popular Zelda games, so it tends to get forgotten by fans. This Was Not A Smooth Transition
Via: youtube.com (CYCHREUS GAMING) With most of Nintendo’s series, the shift to 3D in the Nintendo 64 usually was a good thing. Series like The Legend of Zelda and Metroid only benefitted from transitioning to the 3D world. But this was not the case for Castlevania. Castlevania 64 could’ve been a good game if they had just put more love into it. As it is, the controls were pretty bad, the graphics were worse, and camera had all kinds of problems. This is one of those cases where the series maybe should’ve stayed in 2D, at least until they decided to make a better transition. Maybe one day. You Don t Strike Gold Twice
Via: turok.wikia.com I don’t think Nintendo expected Turok: Dinosaur Hunter to get as popular as it did. But the concept of hunting and shooting dinosaurs apparently appealed to a lot of people. This was a fun adventure game that made you feel like you were right in Jurassic Park, except this time, you have a gun. Hunting dinosaurs is a pretty fun game concept. But unfortunatel,y the sequel, Turok: Evolution, did not do well. It had quite a few glitches, a boring story, and a terrible villain (and not in a good way). This game was just not good, and so many gamers hated it with a passion. It shows that even when a game becomes surprisingly popular, that doesn’t mean the sequel will. Stop Trying To Educate Us
Via: superluigibros.com On paper, the idea of Mario going through various points in time to combat Bowser seems like a pretty cool concpet. But Mario’s Time Machine is not a very cool game. It’s basically an educational game trying to hide as a cool game and doing it badly. The problem is that this game quizzes you on the various artifacts you have to find. And there’s no actual combat going on. So yes, you’re going back in time but just to get famous artifacts and prevent Bowser from stealing them. Most Mario fans hate this game and consider it a complete waste of time. The Fire Is Not In This One
Via: fireemblem.wikia.com Fire Emblem is a great game series that doesn’t get enough love in my opinion. This may be partially because a lot of the games were only available in Japan and sometimes Europe. But that has been slowly changing over the years and we’re getting more of these awesome games in the U.S. But not all of the games in this series have been great. While Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon wasn’t a bad game, a lot of fans weren’t very happy with it. It didn’t include popular elements like character interactions through dialogue and cut scenes, which were things many gamers loved. So, this game left a lot to be desired by fans and tends to get ignored in favor of other games.
