25 Hidden Things In The Halo Series Most Fans Still Haven t Caught

The Halo games are chock-full of hidden things, many of which are illusive even to the biggest fans. Here are some of them. Halo is one of the best video game series out there. Am I just saying that because it was one of the first games I ever picked up when I was just a kid? Yes, yes I am. Does it matter? No, no it does not. For anyone who is a fan of first-person shooters, it is easy to see why Halo is . Not only has its futuristic combat been performed seamlessly on our home consoles, Halo did what not many of those realistic shooter games out there could. It gave us a whole new world to discover. Halo gives us a world where an ancient race of beings, known as the Forerunners, built magnificent galactic constructs, most notably the titular Halo rings. So even though space-traveling humans are late to the party, they get to visit and experience these large splendors. And we as gamers get to explore these places alongside them. (We explore these places while riddling aliens with bullets, but that's neither here nor there.) While exploring Halo's rich maps and futuristic locales, a few of us have stumbled upon some hidden secrets, Easter Eggs, epic weapons, or funny dialogue. It is a downright shame that some of these items are so well hidden that even the most ardent Halo fan might not be aware of their existence. If you consider yourself a Halo fan, I suggest you give this list a quick look. Read on if you want to discover some of Halo's best kept secrets. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

M Is For

via: imgur.com A developer on the first Halo game, Halo: Combat Evolved placed a hidden message to his girlfriend in the form of her first name's initial. You can find this Easter Egg on the first mission in the game while you're on the Pillar of Autumn. If you go on a rampage while on the bridge, Cortana will send in a group of elite marines to take the Chief out. If you survive their assault, rush into the secret room they came from, and look at a certain wall, you will find the letter "M" made with bullet holes. That, my dear readers, is the Megg.

Way To Plan Ahead

via: bleedingcool.com Bungie developers sure knew how to plan ahead for the future. While roaming the quiet city of New Mombasa in Halo: ODST, you can come across posters that say "Destiny Awaits." Originally, I just thought that these posters were supposed to be mere propaganda encouraging citizens to join a space program. Now, it's easy to see what these "Destiny" posters are really foretelling. Bungie developers were giving us a sneak peek at an all-new game that was barely in the works.

Entering Halsey s Office Ahead oOf Schedule

via: youtube.com (Rooster Teeth) One of the final missions of Halo: Reach is to retrieve Cortana from Dr. Catherine Halsey's underground lab on the planet Reach. If you're feeling a bit impatient with waiting around for her to open the door for you, you can open a side door for yourself. It takes a bit of finagling, and you definitely need to be playing the campaign with a buddy, but once you press a hidden button to unlock the door, you can see Halsey's office with a bunch of Halo references strewn across several computer screens.

From Clueless Gaming To Clueless Cameos

via: youtube.com (Craig Whargs) I love watching Conan O'Brien's gaming segment on his television show where he ineptly attempts to play video games. In Halo 4, we got to see Conan on the other side of the screen. He and his co-worker Andy Richter lent their voices to two hapless marines standing about in the vehicle bay of the UNSC Infinity. Before Master Chief and Cortana return to the Forerunner planet of Requiem by themselves, if you linger on Infinity, you can find the two of them hanging around by some cargo crates, talking to each other.

Pure Poetry

via: youtube.com (LateNightGaming) This is perhaps not as hidden as most of the other secrets on this list, but it is one of my most favorite. Halo 5: Guardians gave us certain levels where there was no fighting or shooting to be had. Instead, we were allowed to wander in a specific area. In one of these areas on the Elite homeworld of Sanghelios, we can find an Elite standing to the side, talking to himself. If you step closer, you can hear his dialogue, which is him reciting a love poem about Spartan Sarah Palmer. Music to my ears.

The King Of Easter Eggs

via: youtube.com (X1Achievements) There is a hidden achievement you can unlock in the last level of Halo: Combat Evolved. While you're doing that last dash in the Warthog on the Pillar of Autumn, if you decide to ignore the ticking clock that's screaming at you to get off the Autumn before she explodes, you can take a quick detour to a hidden room with the word "Rex" written in blood on the walls. If you find the room and stare at the walls for a few seconds, you will unlock the T. Rex achievement.

Hi Ben

via: youtube.com (daveywankenobie) Halo 2 really amped up the music that the first Halo game gave to us. Electric guitars thrilled me to the core of my being when I played Halo 2, and I felt like giving a huge thanks to the musicians who contributed to the soundtrack. Apparently, the developers of Halo 2 shared my appreciation. There is a hidden message to the band Breaking Benjamin on the Halo 2 mission called "Regret." If you zoom in on a corner of one of the ziggurats, you can see the words, "Hi Ben," forever stamped on the brickwork.

Go Reach Racer Go

via: youtube.com (Ton) Who doesn't want to participate in a small race while in the middle of a campaign mission? While playing Halo: Reach, you and a friend can unlock a small racing game during the level "ONI: Sword Base." You have to find two hidden switches in order to activate the game. Just be careful when you do. You're given two Warthogs to race around on a track with. It's all fun and games until the race is over. Whoever comes in second has to deal with an exploding Warthog.

Gravity Grunt

via: youtube.com (Thuglife Pikachu) Normally, when I start up a game, I do not linger long on the title screen. I'm far too eager to start the actual game than to sit around and appreciate the menu. However, for Halo 5: Guardians, I highly recommend that you do. If you wait around with the menu up, showing the vastness of space with the UNSC Infinity in the background, a surprising figure will appear. A little Grunt will come floating up from out of nowhere. This guy will jabber to himself in dismay, and then eventually gravitate off the screen.

The Golden Hand Grenade

via: halo.bungie.org As most gamers know, one of the ways to show that you are a pro gamer is to have all of your personal, in-game items colored pure gold. In Halo 4, you have an opportunity to get yourself a golden grenade. However, this little treasure has proven to be a bit of a mystery. On the mission level called The Composer, in the area where the Master Chief rescues some scientists, you can find a golden grenade. However, don't rely on it being there all the time. On a second playthrough, it might be gone.

Smoking In Space

via: youtube.com (Modest) A little known fact about Captain Keyes is that he keeps a pipe with him at all times, even if he's onboard a space-worthy ship. No one needs to worry about breathing hazards though. Keyes never lights his pipe. For all intents and purposes, this pipe is a non-smoking pipe. Unfortunately for Keyes, when he's turned into a Proto-Gravemind, he loses his pipe to the Flood as well. In the room where Keyes has been infected, if you follow one of the strands encapsulating him, you can see his pipe stuck in the goop too.

GOOOOOOOOOOAL

via: youtube.com (Smitty Smith) One thing I did not expect to want in my Halo games was a giant soccer ball. I was such a fool. I clearly did not consider the possibilities. In Halo 2, while you're roaming the streets of New Mombasa, there's a rooftop that holds a large soccer ball. This ball is just waiting for an intrepid gamer to grenade-jump or banshee-hijack their way up to it. Once you bring it down, you can play with it to your heart's content. Or at least until you remember you have a campaign to finish.

What Was Buck Doing

via: youtube.com (Spatial Rift) Buck is a fan-favorite character, and we first meet him in Halo: ODST. We catch him in the act of doing something extremely odd in an end credits scene. When Johnson and Dare are busy talking to the Engineer/Vergil, if you pan over to the side at the right moment, you will see Buck stroking and grooming some weird monkey creature in a little alcove. And what's even weirder, Buck appears to pick something off of the monkey-man and put it in his mouth.

The Return Of The Soccer Ball

via: youtube.com (TheGamingDevil) Just in case you were desperately missing soccer while playing the campaign of Halo 5: Guardians, the developers got you covered. In the Halo 5 mission level where you're hanging around Meridian Station with Team Osiris, you have to find a particular vending machine. Spam that vending machine button like there's no tomorrow and a soccer ball will appear that Spartan Locke and Buck can play with. It's one of my favorite callbacks to the older Halo games.

Unlimited Power

via: youtube.com (BNGBlindWolf) Halo 2 introduced us to a lot of cool things that we had never seen before. Some of these things were helpful to Master Chief. There were new weapons for him to use, new vehicles to steal, and new environments to navigate. Other new items were more harmful than helpful. Halo 2 brought us the massive Scarab, a mobile tank-like unit that Master Chief had to board to disable. However, the Scarab also gave us the Scarab gun, a small Plasma Rifle that fired tremendous bursts that could annihilate anything in your path.

Chilling To Tunes In Halo

via: youtube.com (Nextil) There is a hidden music cue in the first Halo game. You have to steal a Banshee from an Elite while playing the mission "Assault on the Control Room." Once you steal the Banshee, you fly it to the top of a spire. This spire is your eventual destination in the mission anyway, but it is only with a Banshee that you can reach the very top of it. After landing it safely, if you disembark from your Banshee and walk around, you can hear the faint musical cues of a song from a previous game the developers worked on.

What s The Best Way To Say Happy Birthday

via: pixelvulture.com This hidden message perhaps took the longest of any from Halo 3 to be discovered. Halo 3 has a loading screen that shows a digital form of a Halo ring materializing on the screen. If the date on your Xbox is set to December 25th, the words, "Happy Birthday Lauren!" will scroll along the the ring as it forms. As the wife of one of Halo 3's programmers, Lauren and her birthday got to be immortalized as an Easter Egg we only get to see once a year.

The Falcon Makeover

via: halo.wikia.com Ever think your boring old Falcon was not enough, and that you might want to change it for the larger Pelican? Halo: Reach allows you to do just that. While flying around the rainy city of New Alexandria in your Falcon, you have to activate a hidden switch (which is easier done with a buddy at your side) and then fly your Falcon to a specific building. If you fly through this building, your Falcon will transform into a Pelican. Similarly, if you perform the same actions with a Banshee, it will turn into a Phantom.

How To Call Your Own Personal Flock Of Banshees

via: youtube.com (Gamer Gamer) This little secret exists if you want to spawn a bunch of Banshees where previously there were none. (Who doesn't want to have a bunch of Banshees flying around them?) In Halo 5: Guardians, on the first mission you get to play with Master Chief and Blue Team, you come across an abandoned space vessel. If you shoot a bright light on its surface, a bunch of Banshees will appear from out of nowhere and fly off into the distance. Luckily, they don't engage you from so far away.

Catching Up On Some Beauty Sleep

via: youtube.com (Specialist01) Halo: Reach was a tragic game that we knew right off the bat would not end happily. It's a well-known piece of lore that the planet Reach falls to the Covenant, and that Master Chief had to make a getaway from its ruins. So as we got attached to the Spartans we met in Reach, we did not have high hopes for their chances of survival. Of course, they all perish on Reach, but at the ending, if you move your toggle at the right moment, you can catch a glimpse of Master Chief in a Cryo-Tube on the Pillar of Autumn.
