Phil Spencer Shows Off Playing Unannounced Xbox Game

With all the hype surrounding the next-gen consoles, it's sometimes easy to forget that there are still games in the pipeline waiting to be released on the current-gen. As with most next-gen releases, the current batch of games releasing this year is likely to be released first on the current generation of consoles before eventually porting to the new ones. And while we eagerly await 's arrival, The Initiative seems to be quietly creating something big. Drew Murray of the Initiative recently tweeted out that Studios head Phil Spencer visited to play what they're working on. Just what that is, we have no idea. Lots of people thought that we'd be able to get a clue based , but that turned out to be a bust. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY The Initiative was formed in 2018, and since then has been diligently plugging away. The studio is full of industry vets that have worked on such grand titles as God of War, Tomb Raider, Red Dead Redemption, and more. Drew himself has worked on Sunset Overdrive, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance. Just about the only clue we have is an earlier tweet from Spencer mentioning that the studio is working on both "new things" and "old things in new ways." Could this mean the return of old IPs? Or could we see an entirely new IP emerge that would bolster Xbox's lack of proprietary games? Although The Initiative is clearly far enough along in development of whatever it is they're making to show it off to their boss, the studio is including gameplay animators, environment and technical artists, and a lead VFX artist. There are also several graphics and gameplay engineer positions available and a UI/UX lead position. We’ll have to be patient on this one to see what Microsoft has cooked up.
