Fortunately, Disintegration seeks to do more than just emulate the giants of the past - games like Halo or - by actively mutating the sci-fi shooter model and adding elements of RTS games into the mix, creating a varied experience that might be refreshingly unfamiliar to FPS fans. The game received a largely warm welcome during the closed beta, which is exciting, if not indicative of how it will fare during the open beta. On one hand, Disintegration's attempt to dig up something new in a well-mined setting is an interesting gamble that contextualizes the bolder, broader choices in game design. On the other hand, while Lehto may have the AAA pedigree required to pull-off a new, genre-bending IP, V1 Interactive is a small studio working in a deep field against well-loved monoliths. The open beta marks another milestone on the road to release and, while no specific date has been given, Disintegration is expected to release this year.
