Uncharted Movie Release Date Pushed Back After Loss Of Sixth Director

Knight’s departure was the latest catastrophe that has defined the production of the Uncharted movie. The troubled film adaptation of the series hit another snag, as the film faces yet another delay after the departure of its sixth director. Bumblebee director Travis Knight left the troubled project in December with the studios scrambling to find another director to head the Tom Holland film, but whether or not the film will be released by the presumed 2021 date is anyone’s guess. Knight’s departure was the latest catastrophe that has defined the production of the film with all attempts to bring Nathan Drake to the big screen have failed time and again since 2010. The film’s evolution has gone from a David O. Russell film potentially featuring Mark and Robert De Niro as Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan in an adaptation of Drake’s Fortune, to a prequel starring Holland as Drake and as Sullivan. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Uncharted will now occupy the March 5 date originally set for the similarly troubled Masters of the Universe reboot. Though Holland is still attached to the project, it still seems like an uphill battle to get this film through production. Plus, with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End closing out the series back in 2016, the interest in the film may not be there should the movie release. The challenges of making Uncharted are actually quite daunting. Unlike the runaway success of Detective Pikachu, video game movies do not translate to financial success and most of the properties that do get adapted to screen are active titles. Not to mention that the whole premise of Uncharted would immediately invoke comparisons to the Indiana Jones series that also has a fifth entry planned for release around the same time. Though Venom’s Ruben Fleischer is now in talks to become the seventh director on the project, there is plenty of doubt that the film can make the March 5, 2021 release date as Fleischer is sure to find something in the script he wants adjusted and Holland will not put Spider Man 3 on hold for a movie that might not get made in the first place. If anything, now is the perfect time to start from scratch and swap Tom Holland for Nathan Fillion to give fans something to look forward to. Source:
