Call Of Duty League Opening Weekend Peaked At Over 100K Viewers

The opening weekend of the Call of Duty League saw Youtube draw in over 100,000 eyes to the new league. The inaugural season of the go off to a pretty solid start in terms of viewership throughout the weekend. The new league is Activision Blizzard's second endeavor into the world of pairing esports with a location-based, franchise concept after the Overwatch League's strong success over two seasons. Over 100,000 viewers throughout the opening weekend and is a good start that should see growth as the season goes on. The opening day numbers for the new league compared to the opening day numbers for The Call of Duty World League from last year peaked at just under 30,000 more viewers, an encouraging number for a newly created league still trying to find it's footing. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY The first day peak comes from the opening match between the Chicago Huntsmen and the Dallas Empire where Chicago took the match 3-1. The hype for the match was palpable as both organizations, owners and players have a long history with a bit of bad blood between them. After the opening matched, the viewership dropped (and hovered) around a still respectable 50,000. While the majority of the weekend found the viewership hovering anywhere from the 45,000 - 55,000 mark, the biggest match up took place between the Chicago Huntsmen and OpTic Gaming Los Angeles. The match between "Old OpTic" and "New OpTic" managed to wrangle in . Chicago disposed of Los Angeles rather quickly in 3-0 fashion. It's clear the Chicago Huntsmen are league favorites so far which is entirely understandable. They have some of the most iconic names in the history of professional Call of Duty and strong ties to the OpTic Gaming brand - the premiere organization in the scene. Once fans continue to generate interest alongside that of Chicago, the league will continue to see viewership grow. The numbers for the opening weekend of the Call of Duty League shows promise in a new era for professional Call of Duty. The market is there for this type of league and if teams continue to grow their fan base by generating interest from new and old viewers, the league should be in a good spot going through the 2020 season. It will be interesting to see how the viewership numbers stack up when the league heads to London on February, 8th.
