Surviving the Circle of Slaughter can be a task in itself. Here are 10 strategies to help you conquer these stages. One of the most thrilling and rewarding features of the RPG shooter, , is its slew of action-packed survival missions. These are a handful of scenes where you (and a friend, if you choose) fend off hordes of increasingly tough foes. It's called the Circle of Slaughter, and it's simultaneously one of the most fun and stressfully tough features in the game. While you can gain a crazy amount of XP and useful loot, there's a good chance you'll be fighting hard to do so. But never fear, Vault Hunter! With this list, we'll go over 10 of the most vital tips and tactics to maximize your effectiveness in these arenas of death. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Be On The Move

While it may seem fairly obvious, players tend to drop more than necessary on account of being easy to hit and/or positioned in a location that's not ideal. Each Circle of Slaughter locale is going to vary in layout and characteristics. As a whole, though, you generally want to avoid central, open areas - and keep it moving. This usually means skirting the perimeter of these zones and often sliding behind obstructions to gain cover and regroup. Do some razzle-dazzle action, climb, jump, and secure the high ground when possible.

Rock Elemental Weapons - Especially Corrosive

While all elements tend to be beneficial to one degree or another, you'll typically want to focus on Corrosive first and foremost. This doesn't necessarily mean that everything you equip should be laced with them, but having a couple of elemental weapons definitely helps. As Circle of Slaughter often throws tons of mobs at you in chaotic fashion, spamming Corrosive-spewing shots should prove useful. This is because it doesn't require ultra-precision, and its damage-over-time feature is ideal in these crazy scenarios. It's also effective against armor, which many enemies will have.

Pick The Right Grenades

Given the variance in difficulty, mobs, arenas, and personal preference, there's no "one size fits all" when it comes to grenade choice here. Still, as a general rule, you'll want to use a grenade that comes laced with an element, specifically Corrosive or Shock. This will enable you to scatter and extend the damage you deal when tossing them. If we're talking specific grenades, the Legendary Hex has been pointed to as an effective choice. Not only does it pack insane power, but it's also homing, and dispurses into additional 'nades, covering more ground. If you can't get your hands on this, then grenades that share one or both of these qualities is a good start. It's all about a large blast radius, spread, and power here.

Prioritize Anointed Mobs

In the later Circle of Slaughter matches, and on the higher difficulties, you'll be treated to some intimidating, frustrating, "Anointed" foes. A new addition to BL3, these purple pests are particularly tough to take down, with their ability to teleport all over the place. They also launch powerful long-range barrages of magic, which can take you out fast. If you happen upon these, you'll want to hone in on them and try to neutralize them as fast as possible. They'll make things a nightmare for you if you let them idly work their magic while occupying yourself with weaker targets.

Dial Back The Difficulty If Needed

Sure, burning through the Circle of Slaughter in Mayhem 3 or 4 can be a thrilling, satisfying experience. Yet, there are times when you may have to swallow your pride and turn it back, if only temporarily. With how much this romp escalates in difficulty for each wave, you may be blindsided by an experience that's way tougher than the normal campaign. Sure, you'll be depriving yourself of various bonuses, but there will be a wealth of loot, cash, and XP to obtain here anyway. And it's likely worth the tradeoff, considering mobs get hefty health and shield/armor boosts. Considering you can change your difficulty at any point, on the fly - and it won't affect the gameplay of a co-op companion - you may want to take advantage.

Lots And Lots Of Ammo

Each of the Circle of Slaughter arenas in BL3 provides ammo vendors by their entrances - and there's a good reason for this. As this is a fast-paced survival mode that bombards you with countless foes, you'll want to load up on tons of ammo. Be sure to pay a visit to Sanctuary and upgrade the SDUs to the types of weapons you favor, and buy the maximum amount you can carry. You'll also want to consider and/or weapons that allow for infinite ammo or the chance to collect more. While there will be ammo from drops and boxes during your Circle of Slaughter showdown, you won't want to be left vulnerable for too long getting these goods. And you'll still typically find yourself behind even if you are nabbing ammo.

Pick A Fast-Recharging Shield

Shields are the only thing between you and your more vulnerable health bar, so you'll want to be sure you come equipped with a solid one. This doesn't simply mean a shield with a meaty health capacity, but also one whose recharge delay and rate are speedy. No matter your skills in evasion, you'll inevitably be pelted and peppered with enemy fire quite a bit. Thus, you'll want a shield that recharges a few short seconds after finding cover to regroup. Something like the Legendary Re-Charger, which recharges immediately when broken, would be the ultimate example of such a shield.

Teamwork Makes The Dream Work

Circle of Slaughter - like most of BL3 - is designed to be enjoyed solo or with a friend. Still, this mode is particularly useful - and less stressful - with a companion or 2. Not only will you have double the firepower, but there's also another target to divert some of the enemy's attention. Of course, you've got the always-handy revive feature, and you'll tend to get more opportunities for Second Winds, maximizing your chances at surviving to the end. And since this is BL3, there will be more than enough loot to go around for multiple players anyway.

Bring A Range Of Weapons

Of course, you'll want to show up to these arenas "fully loaded," as it were, but the diversity in your artillery is also important. As mentioned, elements usually prove useful, but you should try for an array of elements, as each will be effective on different types of mobs. You'll want Incendiary weapons to deal with fleshy foes, Corrosive for armored bots, Shock for shielded mobs, etc. You should also consider sporting weapons of different types. You may want to opt for a powerful close-range shotty for beefy mobs up close, a rocket launcher for Badasses and bosses, and for distant foes taking cover.

Wait A Bit Before Finishing All The Mobs

While it can be tricky, one of the Circle of Slaughter's useful traits is that it doesn't come with a time limit. Rather, it's a drawn-out war of attrition. Thus, you should take advantage by taking time to flee, cover, and regroup while nabbing loot. The best way to do this is to thin out the numbers of an wave, and leaving 1 or 2 of the weaker guys hanging around while securing loot. Not only will this help you get more ammo safer and more effectively, but you may stumble upon some more powerful gear/weapons too.
