10 PS4 Games That Were Allegedly Visually Downgraded From Their Trailers
Here are 10 PlayStation 4 games that were visually downgraded from their reveal trailer, or were speculated to have been. The market for video games has become more saturated than ever before. Everyone from small indie developers to AAA giants are giving it their all to ensure that their games generate as much hype as possible before release. After all, there's no point in creating an excellent game if it doesn't sell at all. However, in a bid to market their game as strongly as possible, some companies utilize questionable marketing practices that might present a version of the game that could not realistically run on a home console. The PlayStation 4 is no exception, with numerous games on the platform seeming to have been graphically downgraded in some way or the other. Here are 10 games that were alleged to have been visually downgraded. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Marvel s Spider-Man
The release of Marvel s Spider-Man was widely anticipated, and rightfully so — the game looked like a spectacle that simply had to be enjoyed. Both critics and fans lauded the game upon release for featuring an excellent story, engaging combat, and striking visuals... although the last point has been the subject of furious debate. Fans have picked both sides when it comes to the apparent visual downgrade of the game, with everything from the draw distance to puddles being used as evidence to indicate that the game was visually downgraded upon launch. Insomniac Games has denied the notion that was downgraded. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
is undoubtedly one of the greatest games of all time, but even great titles aren't exempt from disappointing marketing strategies. This can be seen in the difference of the game's final visuals from what was shown in the trailer. Graphics weren't the only thing that was notably affected, The Witcher 3's gameplay and animations had also been changed from the end product into something different altogether. While the end product was more than pleasing — aesthetically or otherwise — one couldn't deny the reality of these downgrades. Tom Clancy s Rainbow Six Siege
It would be impossible to talk about visual downgrades without mentioning a company as infamous in this regard as Ubisoft. There are several games that could make the cut for having stark visual downgrades, with Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege being one of many. From the reduction of various graphical options to the removal of certain assets altogether, the difference between the trailer and actual version of Rainbow Six Siege was incredibly high and hard to not notice. Tom Clancy s The Division
The second Ubisoft game on this list is also another Tom Clancy title as well. Both The Division and its sequel could've made this list, but we're going with the original one because of the sheer brazen nature of the downgrade. The Division looked absolutely revolutionary upon its reveal but was completely unremarkable upon launch. However, the game was still somewhat solid...which cannot be said for the next entry on this list. Mass Effect Andromeda
Expectations for a Mass Effect game were bound to be through the roof, and it was pretty clear that Andromeda had some big shoes to fill when it was announced. The game looked incredible in its early days, but cracks started to show when the final reveal of the game showed strong levels of uncanny valley models and stiff animation. Upon release, Mass Effect Andromeda was labeled as one of the biggest disappointments of 2017, with the combat perhaps being its only saving grace. Everything else that was showcased in the game was subpar, if not outright broken. Anthem
Apparently, the reason why Andromeda was so unpolished upon launch was that BioWare had focused the bulk of its resources into a new IP called Anthem that was supposed to blow everyone out of the water. The title's early reveal did show some promise, with exploration, combat, and visuals being the major highlights. However, upon release, Anthem was met with mediocre reviews and failed to impress critics and gamers alike. Very little of what was promised got delivered, with the hub of Fort Tarsis looking absolutely dead as opposed to the lively city showed in the trailers. Final Fantasy XV
Final Fantasy XV is certainly one of the most beautiful games of the newest gaming generation. However, the two demos that were released prior to the main game — the Platinum Demo and Episode Duscae — displayed greater visual fidelity than the end product. The graphics generally looked sharper than the end product, which had some problems with pop-ins and shorter draw distances than its demos. While it's admittedly true that the demos had more technical issues in the form of framerate dips and the like, no one can deny that the game looked beautiful on a whole. Red Dead Redemption 2
Rockstar Games is undoubtedly one of the greatest video game developers of all time. That said, that does not mean the studio has not had their share of controversies when it comes to alleged downgrades. is a great example of this, with the game being noticeably downgraded with to prevent any technical issues from popping up. While great from a gameplay perspective, the same cannot be said from a visual standpoint. Grand Theft Auto V
Red Dead Redemption 2 wasn't the only Rockstar game that was downgraded on consoles. was also guilty of muting its visuals to ensure the highest level of technical performance possible. The downgrade was so noticeable that Rockstar had to release a talking about the issues gamers were facing when it came to the console visuals. While most people would agree that performance is more important than visuals, compromising on the latter still hurts regardless. No Man s Sky
It would be hard to talk about visual downgrades without mentioning No Man's Sky. Sean Murray had to deal with the hard task of marketing a game without any knowledge of how to do so, and the end result was one of the most botched launches in gaming history. Visual downgrades were through the roof with No Man s Sky, along with the failure to deliver on numerous promises pertaining to the game's features. Thankfully, the game has continuously provided free updates, leading to the title turning from a half-baked product into a succulent space exploration treat.
