Minecraft 10 Things You Didn t Know About Villagers

Minecraft villagers might have seemed kind of boring in the past, but there's a lot you might not have known about them. For the longest time, villagers in were a pretty boring and straightforward feature. All they would do is spend their day walking around their village, occasionally making indescribable sounds while sometimes harvesting and planting new crops. There wasn't much more to villagers, until the much needed 1.14 update. Nowadays, villagers are much more complex creatures with really interesting behavioral patterns. They have opinions about the player and their attitudes can be influenced in various ways. Most of the interesting gameplay in Minecraft actually comes from them and from finding a village in the world. So, with that said, here's 10 things everyone should know about villagers, especially post-1.14. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

They Live In Basements Too

Most players will recognize villagers from having wandered into their primary living space: a village. Depending on the , villagers and their villages might look a bit different but essentially they're all very much the same. They're small communities who just want to thrive and survive. However, villagers can sometimes be found elsewhere, too. Adventurers who have traveled through icy plains may have come across an igloo. Hidden underneath its carpet, a trapdoor leads into a dungeon where a regular villager is trapped in a cage next to a zombie villager.

Their Zombie Versions Can Be Cured

Speaking of zombie villagers, these creatures are basically undead versions of the regular villagers and significantly different in appearance from normal zombies. The thing is, these guys can actually still be saved, if the proper steps are taken by the player. By using a splash potion of weakness on a zombie villager and then feeding them a regular golden apple, they will slowly start a transformation process. After some time, they will actually turn into a normal villager version of themselves.

Illagers Are Outcasts

After zombie villagers, there's still another variant of the regular villagers out there. These creatures are incredibly dangerous and they're unfortunately beyond any salvation. Illagers, as they're called, can be found in outposts, patrols and woodland mansions. Some Illagers (or Pillagers) are powerful sorcerers like the . Others are crazed murderers who will chase the player with an axe, like the Vindicator. Either way, these are the last creatures a player would want to meet in the night while adventuring.

Some Wander And Travel

Most villagers are extremely attached to their homes, and for a reason. It's tough to survive out in the wild, and many of them need their primary source of income, which is often tied to the village itself. There is, however, one exception to this tradition. The Wandering Trader is a special type of villager, who will appear near the player at regular intervals. They offer exotic trades of a large variety of items, and will often have two along as protection. At night time, the Wandering Trader protects themselves by drinking a potion of invisibility.

They Sometimes Forget About Their Village

As mentioned before, villagers are extremely attached to their villages. Simply being outside of the protection of their hometown is scary enough to send them quickly running back home as quickly as possible. Unless a villager is kidnapped on a boat, it's impossible to persuade them to leave their home. However, once villagers are past 32 blocks from their home, they sort of forget about their village and will stop trying to return to it. Similarly, they will also lose any occupation that they once had in the village, as they're no longer close enough to their work stations.

They Pick Their Jobs Meticulously

Previously, it was completely randomized what kind of a job a villager would do when a new one was born. It was a matter of luck whether or not a town would have a blacksmith or not, but thankfully this mechanic was changed drastically with the 1.14 update. Now, villagers will pick the first available job within a 48 block radius. Any free work stations available will be claimed by them immediately, which will change the types of clothes they'll have on. If the block is broken, they'll look for a new job.

They Love Gossip

Everyone loves a bit of gossip every once in a while, and in villages as small as the ones in Minecraft, sometimes it's all these villagers have to keep themselves entertained. It's why they'll often gather around the bells of the village to talk about the latest gossip. Gossip has several functions in Minecraft. It can spawn an Iron Golem is one of the villagers expresses the need for one. It also affects the player's fame in the village, and whether or not he's liked. gossip is also shared among villagers, so it's best to behave well around villagers to remain well-liked.

Sometimes They Turn Into Witches

There is actually one more special type of villager, one that often gets overlooked due to how frighteningly vicious they are. The witch, a mob that will hurl powerful potions and concoctions towards its enemies, is in fact a former villager that met an unlucky fate. While witches spawn naturally at night time or in dark places, as well as in witch huts in the swamp biome, villagers can turn into witches as well. If a villager is struck by lightning, they will transform into a witch as a result.

They Restock By Working At Their Station

Ever wondered when that amazing trade will be available again on a villager? Villagers, like regular vendors, don't have infinite stocks at hand. When the same trade is done many times, their stocks will eventually deplete. Thankfully, villagers can restock pretty easily and do so at least once a day. By working at their respective work stations, they restore their trades and make items the player previously couldn't get available once more.

They re Affected By Tragedy

Just like normal people, villagers don't like tragedies. If something terrible happens in the village, it will have consequences. Villagers express their sorrow by not breeding with one another for a set amount of time, no doubt due to the immense shock of losing a fellow villager. If a villager is killed, breeding in the village will stop for a full 3 minutes. This includes any villager farms that players may have set up, so it's important to make sure that villagers are always protected from outside harm through fences or with the help of an Iron Golem.
