World Of Warcraft Classic 10 Things To Do Before BWL Drops

If you want to be ready for the World of Warcraft Classic's release of the Blackwing Lair raid, follow this guide to stay ahead of the game. The wait is finally over. On Wednesday, February 12th, at 6:00pm EST, Blackwing Lair will be released. After many months of farming Molten Core and Onyxia, Classic players can rejoice over new content. Well, kind of new. Along with a spike in raid difficulty, BWL also brings some sweet . What's the best way to ensure you get your hands on these new toys first? By being prepared for release, of course! Here are 10 things you'll want to have done before Wednesday puts us face to face with the lord of Blackrock mountain. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Learn About Your Class Quest

BWL isn't the only present wrapped up in phase 3 release. There's also the Darkmoon Faire, as well as the introduction of level 50 class quests. No matter what class you play, your quest will inevitably lead you into the depths of Sunken Temple. Beyond that, the only other similarity each of the class quests share is a choice between three rare items at the end of the chain. Depending on your class, these items are more or less important. For example, the warrior class can choose to be rewarded with a rare called Diamond Flask. The on-use effect increases your Strength by 75 for one minute, making it a great tool to have for PvE and PvP purposes.

Grind For New Reputation Rewards

A number of faction vendors will be receiving new gear that you can purchase provided you have the proper reputation level. These factions include the Thorium Brotherhood, Timbermaw Hold, the Silverwing Sentinels, the Warsong Outriders, and the Argent Dawn. One of the most important additions to the game will be the Formula: Enchant Bracers - Healing recipe. It's a bind on pickup recipe that, once learned, allows the user to enchant bracers to grant +24 healing power. In order to purchase it, you'll need to have a Revered reputation with the Argent Dawn. So get your Stratholme runs in now.

Collect Darkmoon Faire Cards

Remember when we mentioned the Darkmoon Faire? Arguably the best part of this festival is the addition of the Darkmoon Faire cards which, once combined, create powerful epic trinkets. The most important of these trinkets is the Darkmoon Card: Blue Dragon, which is for priests as well as druids. Once equipped, it gives the wearer a passive 2% chance on successful spell cast of allowing 100% of mana regeneration to continue while casting for the next 15 seconds. This is a huge improvement to the available mana healers can access, providing the entire raid with added stamina.

Prepare For Eternal Quintessences

Purchasing Aqua Quintessences from the Hydraxian Waterlords gets tiring. Especially when you have to do it every single week. Thankfully, Phase 3 also brings Eternal Quintessences. And as the name suggests, it will last you for the rest of your classic journey. However, there is one caveat. In order to be considered worthy of purchase, you first need to reach revered reputation with the Hydraxian Waterlords. The only way to grind reputation past honored is by clearing the mobs and bosses inside Molten Core. In other words, your punishment for not being a reliable MC raider is more journeys to Azshara. But look on the bright side! At least your guild kept you around.

Farm Raid Consumables

Those winter squid aren't going to fish themselves! Assuming you're not in a super high-effort guild, you may find difficulty coming up with the time to add another raid into your weekly schedule. Progression raids can be especially taxing as your party will be wiping continuously until all the raid members perfect the mechanics of each fight, turning a raid that should've taken a couple of hours into an all-night affair. The more time you spend raiding the less time you'll have to prepare for raids, so get a step ahead of the game and farm your consumables now.

Learn The BWL Fights

Speaking of perfecting the mechanics, it helps to have an idea of what the mechanics are in the first place. The original World of Warcraft game was released in 2004. By now, there's a wealth of information online that will teach you step by step how to handle each encounter. Don't be that guy that slows the entire guild down because you were too lazy to watch a 30-minute YouTube video! Learn the fights before raid night and you'll save yourself and your guildies valuable time.

Complete Attunement For BWL

Seeing as the attunement quest for BWL was released nearly a month ago, you should certainly have this done already. Just in case you forgot, here's your last reminder. All you need to do is kill an NPC called Scarshield Quartermaster right outside of the UBRS instance, loot Blackhand's Command off of his body, accept the quest inside it, and complete a UBRS run. All said and done it shouldn't take you much longer than an hour, but that's an hour you won't have come raid night.

Acquire Onyxia Scale Cloak

Onyxia scale cloak is a very important item for every player to pick up before entering BWL. Without it, you won't be able to clear the black drake bosses Ebonroc, Flamegor, and Firemaw, let alone reach Chromaggus and Nefarian. The cloak gives you partial immunity to the ability Shadowflame. Each of the drakes, as well as Nefarian, make use of this ability. Shadowflame functions in three ways. It first deals four to five thousand shadow damage to anyone hit by it. It then applies a damage over time tick of about 2,000 shadow damage every second for the next 10 seconds. Lastly, once the DoT expires, it deals 20,000 shadow damage that pierces all immunities. The cloak gives you immunity to Shadowflame's DoT, turning certain death into a chance at survival.

Clear Your Schedule For A Second Raid Night

There will surely be more than a handful of hardcore guilds that are capable of clearing BWL, MC, and Onyxia on the same night. But this is definitely not the norm. Especially for the first couple weeks of progression, you're going to need to set aside a lot of raid time. Potentially another entire night's worth of raid time. If you want to prove your worth to your guild and have a better chance at early loot, clear your schedule now. Topping the damage meters may make your guildmates remember you, but consistent raid attendance will make them respect you.

Install A Threat Meter

If you weren't aware already, every boss in Blackwing Lair is immune to taunt. In other words, pulling aggro from the tank is akin to wiping the entire raid. You can easily avoid this issue by installing one of the many threat meter addons available to all players free of charge. There's really no excuse for not having a threat meter before BWL drops this Wednesday. It should be assumed that anyone who pulls aggro during progression probably hasn't installed one yet. That is a problem for your entire guild/raid. So do yourself and your friends a solid and install a threat meter.
