CHAMPS

PRESENTED BY Northwestern is paying tribute to one of its own during Wednesday's Pinstripe Bowl with a helmet sticker dedicated to the late Craig Sager. Sager, who passed away on Dec. 15 at the age of 65 after a long battle with acute myeloid leukemia, graduated from Northwestern in 1973 with a degree in speech. The sticker features Sager's last name with a plaid purple background reminiscent of the loud suits he was known for wearing on camera. Northwestern will honor alumnus Craig Sager by wearing this sticker on its helmets tomorrow vs Pitt — Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell) Sager worked as a reporter for Turner Sports since the early 1980s, covering sports such as baseball, the Olympics and, most notably, basketball. He was inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame earlier this year. His love for Northwestern was very clear during his time in Evanston. He walked on to both the football and basketball teams, and when he found no success there, he served as the Willie the Wildcat mascot for three years. Craig Sager was Willie the Wildcat during his time at Northwestern.
