Pokémon Every Fighting-Type Gym Leader Ranked According To Difficulty

Fighting is a common type for specialists, with every generation featuring a gym leader, Elite 4 member, or other notable trainers. Fighting-type are known for three things: Attack stats, Attack stats, and Attack stats. Each Pokémon belonging to this powerful type is known for its ability to pack a punch — literally. Gym leaders who specialize in the Fighting-type are emblematic of their Pokemon. That is, they fight hard and focus on a strong offense. Fighting is a common type for specialists, with every generation featuring a gym leader, Elite 4 member, or other notable trainers. If you're looking to face the best, you can find them in dojos and stadiums across the Pokémon world, waiting to use their fists of fury against you. Prepare your Psychic-, Flying-, and in some generations, Fairy-types, because these bulky Pokémon need to be taken down quickly before they can pummel you into submission. Here are all the Fighting-type gym leaders, ranked from easiest to hardest in their original fights (no sequels, rematches, or remakes). THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Chuck

This Cianwood leader in Johto has two Pokémon — a Primeape and a Poliwrath. Both are nice, solid attackers, who can definitely pose a threat in the right context, especially the latter of the two. But, Chuck is not the most difficult Fighting-type specialist a trainer will face as they journey through the regions. The Cianwood gym is at the point in the game where you have a pretty decent team that can handle most challenges, but not far enough that the gyms start to scale up in level quickly. Take a readily-available Flying or Psychic-type and Chuck will go down no problem.

Bea

This young Fighting-type specialist is exclusive to Pokémon. In , trainers will face the spooky masked Allister. Bea, however, poses a smaller threat than her Ghost counterpart. Bea's Machamp looks scary when it goes , rounding out an intimidating team of Pangoro, Hitmontop, and Sirfetch'd. However, they are only intimidating in appearance. Don't forget: you can use Dynamax, too. Even though that G-Max Machamp is terrifying, you'll be able to throw your own giant Pokémon into the fight to counter it. Those who are uninitiated with Farfetch'd's new Galarian evolution, Sirfetch'd, might actually struggle with it more than the Machamp. As always, the right Pokémon can ensure this leader will be handing over her badge in no time. A decent Fairy or Flying Pokémon — both of which are easy to find in the spawn-plentiful Galar region — will make quick work of her team. Be wary of a Psychic-type counter — Pangoro is immune.

Korrina

This roller-skating leader is widely known for helping introduce the player (and Ash in the anime) to for the first time. Her Mega Lucario packs a punch and can be a threat to any team that comes unprepared. However, she luckily doesn't use this beast in her gym battle against you, so there's no need to worry about it. This doesn't mean this fight is a cakewalk, though. Korrina runs a Machoke and Mienfoo, which are fairly easy to take down if you know what you're doing. But, she follows up with the dreaded Hawlucha, which has a type combination of Fighting and Flying, posing a different type of challenge than you might be used to with a pure Fighting-type leader. This wrestling bird is no joke, and it can seriously keep you on your toes. Luckily, it's weak to Ice and Electric.

Maylene

If you want to grab Veilstone City's gym badge, you're going to have this young leader to contend with. All the gym leaders in Sinnoh are tough, and Maylene is no different. Not only does she have a great early-game team of Meditite and Machoke, but unlike Korrina, she uses a Lucario in the gym battle against her. Maylene's Lucario runs Drain Punch, Bone Rush, and Metal Claw, which can seriously take you down quickly if you aren't careful. It can make fast work of your team if you don't take it out ASAP. This Fighting/Steel powerhouse is a difficult fight, but if you can get past it, the Cobble Badge is all yours.

Hala

This island kahuna is not technically a gym battle in the traditional sense, but for the sake of this list, he counts. You'll have to defeat him to move on in your Island Challenge and eventually take on the Elite 4. This leader of Melemele Island in Alola is the last battle before the next island opens up to the player, so he's going to be sure to make you work for it. Hala's team is low-leveled due to the early-game fight in which you face him. But, you will be low-leveled as well, meaning it'll take some crafty strategy to take down his Mankey, Crabrawler, and Makuhita. Each of these Fighting-type 'mons is going to put a serious dent in your team, especially Crabrawler's All-Out Pummeling Z-move. Once you finally pass this leader, he's not done with you. You'll face Hala again in the Elite 4, where he'll be sure to make sure the rematch goes a little differently.

Brawly

The second gym players face in a playthrough of is that of Dewford Town. Here, they'll find a surprisingly difficult challenge in the form of Brawly. This surfer dude is a tough-as-nails fight, providing a fierce head-to-head so early in the game. Brawly leads with a Machop, which can pack some serious punch. Once that's removed, he'll send out his bulky Makuhita, which will probably finish you off. Grab a Taillow from a nearby route and hope that your Flying-type moves are enough to break through this challenge. Brawly seems easy enough as an early-game fight, but he provides a surprisingly bitter fight for those who don't come prepared. Many players can be found commiserating online about the difficulty of Brawly and offering tips to those who come seeking shelter from this brutal fight. However, persevere and that badge is yours.
