Without even so much as a blog post, Square Enix released The Last Remnant on mobile earlier this month. via Square Enix The-Last-Remnant Just in time for the holidays, The Last Remnant has arrived on . 'Tis the season for surprise game announcements! If you’re a mobile gamer, you’ll be happy to learn that yet another previous-gen RPG has arrived on Android and iOS devices. has re-released The Last Remnant on mobile without any warning. Originally released back in 2008 for the Xbox 360, The Last Remnant tells the story of Rush Sykes and his quest to save his kidnapped sister. Along the way, he'll get recruited by the lord of a warring city-state and get caught up in a geopolitical conflict that will expand the scope of the game far beyond your simple goal of saving your kin. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY The big selling point on The Last Remnant is its unique combat system. Rather than controlling individual characters, the player controls groups of characters called "unions." Each union's individual units attack in turn order, allowing you to quickly determine the outcomes of large-scale battles. At the time of its release, The Last Remnant was praised in Japan but lambasted everywhere else for poor technical implementation. Graphics issues like texture pop-in and long loading times were the primary complaints. However, that all got fixed when the game was remastered for the PS4 in 2018. A Nintendo Switch version based on that remaster also came out in June of this year, giving us our first hint that the game might also arrive on mobile in the near future. As it turns out, that future is now. Without even so much as a blog post, Square Enix released The Last Remnant on mobile earlier this month. You can pick it up on the Apple Store or Google Play for just $20 and comes completely free of microtransactions — just pay and play. This version of The Last Remnant seems to be based on the Switch version in terms of graphics. A mobile control scheme has been implemented with touchscreen buttons, but the game's simplistic nature means those buttons aren't so numerous as to get in the way of the visuals. As always, performance will depend on the mobile device you're playing on. You'll need 8.5 GB of space on iOS and just 6.1 GB on Android devices, so keep that in mind if you’re using an older device without a lot of internal memory. Source: Square Enix
