X-Com Creator Releases Spiritual Successor Phoenix Point Today

From the creator of X-Com comes Phoenix Point, a spiritual successor that still puts you in turn-based combat against an alien menace. via Snapshot Games Pheonix Point The creator of the famed series has returned with yet another turn-based strategy game where you take on alien invaders. But this time they’re not from outer space, but from under the sea. The year is 2022. A mysterious virus has emerged from beneath the melting Arctic permafrost that shares absolutely no genetic relation with anything else on Earth. Then soon after, the seas are mysteriously transformed with strange and dangerous mutations. Then those mutations start to make it to land. By the year 2047, humanity has been decimated. The survivors eke out an existence in well-fortified enclaves, guarding resources and secrets in equal measure. The Phoenix Project has multiple cells scattered throughout the globe which you can link up with to unlock new technology, gather new resources, and create dangerous weapons to use against the foes of humanity, and sometimes each other. Built along the same lines as XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Phoenix Point adds procedurally generated maps, challenging boss fights, and a branching storyline that can take the fate of the Earth in many different directions. Not only are the maps procedurally generated, but so are the monsters: the Pandora virus rapidly mutates foes into many different configurations, and can even be used on your own troops if you dare. Speaking of troops, you’ve got a squad to deploy in order to kill that alien virus menace. You’ll plan ops at home base, then send out your highly trained soldiers to do what they do best: kill bugs and blow stuff up. The environment is fully destructible, so remember to use that to your advantage. Those looking for a new X-Com game will likely find tons to live in Phoenix Point.
