Via: Den Of Geek It certainly isn't the first video game film, but Detective Pikachu holds the distinct honor of being the first truly good one. You can never be quite sure what you're going to get with a video game movie adaptation. Those of us who burned those copies of the Super Mario Bros. movie we foolishly bought all those years ago can still smell the cloying stench of charred, terrible plastic in our nostrils. Even more painfully, the image of those freakish reptilian Goombas can never be cleansed from our memories. That Bob Hoskins debacle was so bad that, like Superman 64, it almost single-handedly made us fearful of the very concept of a video game adaptation (whether it be a game-of-the-movie or a movie-of-the-game). In recent years, though, the likes of Marvel’s Spider-Man and the Arkham games have encouraged some gamers to be a little more open-minded. While an Annie Award may not be the most widely recognized of commendations, at least Detective Pikachu will be remembered for more than just being a video game film. Source:
