The relationship between John and Abigail Marston was a great one that helped the game become so strong. They are put through the wringer during , with all the difficulties that come with the western frontier. They run the gang together and do a fantastic job of appearing strong throughout. Despite all the hurdles that they go through, this relationship remains one of the very best of the decade and was tons of fun to see.

Michael & Amanda de Santa GTA 5

The main relationship in comes through Michael and Amanda de Santa and unlike many on this list, the duo often shows signs of not loving each other. They constantly argue and Amanda cheats on him several times throughout the game. However, that doesn't mean they aren't hilarious to watch throughout the game. Their constant bickering and moaning are very funny for gamers and it brings a real comedic element to the game. Despite the fact they fall out, a lot there is a genuine love deep down. Whenever someone hurts Amanda, Michael is the first to dish out the punishment to get revenge.

Nathan Drake & Elena Fisher Uncharted

Next up is the relationship between Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher from the series, spanning from 2007-2011. While it did start in the last decade, it concluded within this one. This is a relationship that had tons of ups and downs and that is why it so interesting to play through. The fact that it isn't just a perfect video game relationship is exactly what makes it so interesting. They aren't perfect and Nathan's life often gets in the way of their relationship. However, the adventures that they go on throughout the series brings that spark back in what is some excellent character work.

Master Chief & Cortana Halo 4

The fact that the series managed to create a legitimate love storyline for Master Chief is incredibly impressive, which is why it's one of the best of the decade. As one of the most iconic characters of all time, putting him in a relationship was certainly a risk. However, John-117 and his A.I. companion, Cortana certainly felt organic. Feelings between them had been teased previously, but in Halo 4 the game committed to it when Cortana's program reached its end. They don't get to have a full relationship as Cortana actually dies in the game. However, Chief does everything he can to try and save her, with her final moments pushing to form herself into someone who can actually touch Chief.

Professor Hershel Layton & Claire Professor Layton and the Unwound Future

You can't get much sweeter than a relationship within a puzzle game, can you? That's one of the main reasons that Professor Hershel Layton's relationship with Claire is so sweet and loved by fans. Their relationship is first revealed in Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, where we find out that they were a couple 10 years before that point. Throughout the game, we learn that they are no longer an item, pulling at the heartstrings. George & Nico Broken Sword Series

The Broken Sword franchise is one of the best from the previous and current decade, and a large part of that is George and Nico's relationship. George is insanely jealous of Andre, Nico's ex-boyfriend and he makes no real attempt to hide that situation throughout. While a few games hinted at them being in a relationship, nothing has ever been concrete. Still, it is always fun to see their bond continue to develop with each new game.

Arno Victor Dorian & Elise De LaSerre Assassins Creed Unity

Thankfully, the times have moved on and now great couples like this can be explored. But that isn't the reason that the relationship is so good, that was just a bonus. With the zombie infected apocalypse style game, relationships are always good to add as they provide real stakes. That is exactly what this did, and it brings true emotion when Matthew is killed in the game. The story involving how it happens is also a bitterly emotional one, especially when Walter finds out.

Mario & Peach Multiple Games

When it comes to relationships in video games, they don't get any more iconic than that between Mario and Princess Peach. It's incredibly innocent and sweet and is at the core of the majority of video games. The relationship isn't explored in great detail, but for several decades this has been the constant throughout the series. This decade was no different in that regard, and the relationship was once again highlighted several times. While it isn't detailed about their exact feelings for each other, they're great to see together. Even if their relationship seems to be based on Mario saving the Princess, it's still a lovely one.

Zelda & Link Breath Of The Wild

While the relationship between Mario and Peach is the most iconic in video game history, the one between Zelda and Link is better. That much is evident during , where it plays a key role. Their love is an incredibly strong one, and unlike Mario and Peach, it is explained in detail. There's an actual backstory, specific to them as a couple, rather than just them being cute together. It has an impact on this game in particular, which is one of the best of the decade in general, which is why this is the best relationship.
