10 Reasons Why We Need A Daredevil Game

Could there ever be a Daredevil game? While we can't say for sure, these are all of the reasons we think that there should be! The concept of the superhero has been around for decades upon decades now. And, naturally, with the invention and evolution of video games, so have superheroes found themselves taking advantage of the new technological pop culture mainstream media platform. However, for a long period of time, they have been notorious for being sub-par experiences generally. In that time period there were some good ones at best and terrible ones at worst (see Superman for the Nintendo 64). But given the recent resurgence and injection of high quality in the sub-genre, a superhero that could use some attention in the video games department is . There's a lot of potential with the character. That being said, here are 10 reasons on why that should be the case. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Superhero Popularity In Pop Culture

This is arguably the most obvious reason for why a Daredevil game should be made. Superheroes are one of the most profitable properties, not just the video games department, but in all of popular culture. Just look at the wild and numerous successes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They are a massive cash cow for the mainstream populace. While that could be a detriment as some people might just look to pump out superhero products with little quality for the sake of money, there are still those, in this case, video game developers, that take time and care into their products and add a clear labor of love.

The Success Of The Batman Arkham Series

If gamers had to pinpoint a year when the superhero concept in video games absolutely blew up in terms of sheer quality and scope, it was back a decade ago in 2009. To be more precise, it was August 25th, 2009. That was when the debut video game in the Batman: Arkham series came out and that was the game Batman: Arkham Asylum. The game was truly a revolution in the superhero sub-genre and video game department in general. It was fitting as well, since a few years earlier the character redeemed his good name in Christopher Nolan's films. Daredevil could easily take inspiration from this, as should most action-adventure games, and truly benefit from the rise in popularity from a good video game entry.

The Quality Of The Netflix Series

While Daredevil isn't nearly as much of a household name like, say, Spider-Man, Superman, or Batman, the more recent (and tragic cancellation) of the overall superb Netflix series, Marvel's Daredevil, certainly made him much more well known. Give any superhero for that matter a debut series or feature theatrical film in the radically successful Marvel Cinematic Universe and they are bound to get an injection of popularity and, hopefully, quality. This is the department in which a potential video game should take at least a bulk of its inspiration from.

Superhero Games Recent Return Thanks To Spider-Man PS4

There is a saying that goes along the lines of striking while the iron is hot. Sony had another mega hit in the form of the recent 2018 PlayStation 4 exclusive title in . With the last major superhero title being released three years earlier in the form of the Arkham series finale, Batman: Arkham Knight, for the PlayStation 4 reminded everyone that the Batman: Arkham series isn't the only series of entries fans could expect in the superhero department in video game form. With Square Enix's upcoming Avengers title coming next year the point is further proven that superheroes in games are here to stay. A Daredevil game could help further cement the sub-genres dominance and it would be smart on Marvel's part to keep coming out with quality properties in the video game form.

A Combat Mix Of Batman Arkham and Spider-Man

Arkham City Fighting Now to get into the details in what the game mechanics could take form in in a potential Daredevil video game. Being surely in the action-adventure genre, a big appeal of what would help make the game of a high quality would be how exactly the combat would play out. Batman: Arkham Asylum introduced a game-changing combat mechanic that games like Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor took inspiration from. Its free-flow combat system was fun and fluid. A healthy mix of Arkham's fluidity and Spider-Man's acrobatics in combat would be exhilarating to control.

Daredevil s Heightened Senses Would Be A Fun Mechanic

One of the most notable features of the Batman: Arkham video game series was the ability for the titular superhero to use his popular detective vision to conduct the--obviously--more detective aspects of the game. While this was also used in stealth combat sequences to do things like see through walls and see who is armed with weapons, this was emphasized in puzzle solving in detective cases in Origins and Knight. Daredevil is, first and foremost, blind but with extremely heightened senses. This could easily provide for a fun and exciting game play mechanic taking advantage of those senses to do things like dodge weapons and gunfire in time and initiate timely counters among other things.

Connection To Spider-Man And Avengers

Among the most exciting propositions that a potential Daredevil video game could make is the fact that it could help connect to already existing and upcoming triple A Marvel video game properties. In this case, those connections could be made with the PlayStation 4's Spider-Man and Square Enix's upcoming Avengers title. It would truly be an exciting long-term project for a potential Daredevil video game to tie into the worlds established by the two aforementioned Marvel games. Marvel would dominate mainstream media even more if they had a video game universe on top of their cinematic one.

Incorporation Of Iconic Comic Book Story Lines

Again, Marvel's Daredevil character isn't nearly as much of a household name compared to characters like Spider-Man, for instance. However, he is certainly successful and notable enough, especially after the quality Netflix series talked about earlier in this list, to be known among plenty of Marvel fans through the primary source of superhero media: comic books. Daredevil, over the years, has been blessed with a number of notable comic book story lines ripe for adaptation or inspiration in a video game. It could use the successful Frank Miller origin story work, The Man Without Fear, to explore his origins through gradually built up flashback sequences. Or the notable Born Again story in which Matt Murdock has been outed to the Kingpin.

A Tonal Mix Of Batman And Spider-Man

Marvel isn't exactly known for creating the darkest of stories, at least in the form of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Batman is a great example of dark and brooding superhero with gritty story lines to boot. Spider-Man, on the other hand, is a generally more lighthearted and up-beat character by nature, at least by comparison. Meanwhile, Daredevil is also a character that is plagued with tragedy and is known to be at least somewhat brooding. A video game based on the character could help balance a mix of Spider-Man's tones (possibly with a team-up sequence in the game) and a gritty, serious tone of a Batman story.

Setting Up The Defenders

Much like the Netflix Marvel television series established by Marvel TV, a Daredevil game could benefit a potential video game universe going forward by setting up a The Defenders video game in the near future. Or, at least, have members of that team show up in Daredevil's game in the base game or as downloadable content. This could be a great opportunity to set up and expand a potential video game universe going forward. Even some appearances of at least some of the members of the Avengers themselves or some other heroes would be welcome in expanding the universe.
