Red Dead Redemption 2 5 Of The Best Areas & 5 That Are Just Terrible

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a marvel of video game development, and the areas of its vast open-world, both good and bad, prove that. is a wildly fantastic game, and while it does have its gameplay flaws, no one can deny the stunning quality of its environments. If Red Dead Redemption 2 had merely consisted of walking around in its beautiful world, that might have been enough to make it game of the year. However, some areas of its map are clearly more desirable to players than others. Whether its annoying NPCs or a dip in storytelling quality, certain regions caused many gamers to feel dismay as they played through Arthur Morgan's tale. Read on if you want to know the absolute best areas of Red Dead Redemption 2 and the most abysmal. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Best The Heartlands Valentine

You enter the Heartlands after the Prologue, and after those first few missions in the snow, it is such a relief to be in a temperate area with people and towns. The region around Valentine is such a delight to mess around in, and it is the perfect diving board of exploration for the rest of the game. It introduces the basic mechanics of how towns work in Red Dead Redemption 2 with Valentine, and it is the true start for the game's open-world environment. It's gorgeous, and scattered throughout the area are engaging as heck.

Worst Saint Denis

Saint Denis is a marvel of video game development, as it feels like a real, breathing city. But Arthur Morgan's annoyance with the growth of the "civilized" world transfers over to players quicker than you would think. Gone are the open spaces where you can gallop to your heart's content. Instead, if you so much as brush up against a random citizen, the law will be on you . And once you're Wanted in Saint Denis, it is such a hassle to simply get to a post office to pay your bounty there. Plus, the whole environment is a stark, grimy contrast to the previous areas you encountered in the story.

Best Grizzlies East

The complete opposite of the cramped Saint Denis, the region around the east Grizzlies is a stunning tribute to the great outdoors. Clear rivers, pristine forests, and jaw-dropping mountain cliffs are all available for players to just stop and appreciate Red Dead Redemption 2's visuals. If you're the kind of RDR2 player that likes to utilize the camera more than necessary, the best pictures you can take are in the Grizzlies East. In addition to the area's beauty, there are players can sniff out up there, from an abandoned witches' cauldron to a blasted crater.

Worst Blackwater

In the first portion of Red Dead Redemption 2, the town of Blackwater is off limits to you. And when we say off limits, we mean off limits. As soon as you step onto the dusty streets, the law will zero in on your position and shoot you dead without further ado. It's a death trap for Arthur Morgan. And, once you complete Arthur's side of the story and start playing as John Marston, you'll find that Blackwater is not that appealing anyway. It's a small, burgeoning town, but it'll still make you wonder why there was such a fuss about getting into it in the first place.

Best Scarlett Meadows Rhodes

Scarlett Meadows is next to none when it comes to random encounters with NPCs. If that type of thing is your favorite part of any Rockstar game, then you should definitely be hanging around there. The town of Rhodes is a hub for ridiculousness, and the surrounding meadows hide hilarious moments for you and Arthur to enjoy. The first time you stumble onto the bumbling group of white-robed KKK members (and laugh as they set themselves on fire), you'll want to keep exploring the environs of Scarlett Meadows for as long as you can. And there are even more surprises in store for you if you do.

Worst Grizzlies West Mountains

Unlike the Grizzlies East, the Grizzlies West earned a spot on the least-favored side of our list. These snowy mountains are as gorgeous to look upon as the rest of the game is, but they present a wide array of difficulties for players to confront. The cold temperatures mean that players have to bundle up their character or risk losing core stamina and health. The snow is an actual obstacle for your horse to plow through, making it lose its stamina just by trotting forward. The hunting is fairly choice, but you also have to contend with the packs of ravening wolves that prey on hapless hunters around the mountainsides.

Best Great Plains Beecher s Hope

On the surface, Beecher's Hope is not much. It's just a spot on the Great Plains that John Marston and his family can call home. But that is what makes it one of the best spots in Red Dead Redemption 2. It is a place full of nostalgia for players who experienced the first Red Dead Redemption game. For fans of the original, it is a chance to revisit the spot where John Marston was happy with his family before the tragedies that ensued. And, if you keep hanging around playing RDR2, you can make believe that John Marston spent the rest of his days ranching at Beecher's Hope.

Worst Bayou Nwa

Swamps and alligators. That's nearly all we have to say about the Bayou Nwa. It's an even more restrictive area than the west Grizzlies with their snows. If you enjoyed off-roading with your horse in the Heartlands of Scarlett Meadows, then the Bayou Nwa is going to be the bane of your existence. Swamps are generously interspersed between roads, and if you even think about taking the path less traveled, you're going to have to deal with an angry (and hungry) gator that you made your horse step on. After that, you better hope you have some Dead Eye left in order to survive the encounter.

Best Cholla Springs Armadillo

Beecher's Hope gave us nostalgia in spades, but there's honestly not much else keeping us in the Great Plains. Cholla Springs, on the other hand, is simultaneously rolling in the nostalgia factor while also providing players with interesting encounters along the way. It's still surprising to consider how diverse the red desert can be, but it is full of enemies and legendary animals for you to deal with in turn. So not only will players of the original Red Dead Redemption traverse Cholla Springs with a permanent grin on their faces as they fondly remember the first game, they'll have to stay on their toes to deal with whatever problem comes their way.

Worst Guarma

No portion of Red Dead Redemption 2 is as disliked as the part on Guarma. The story felt like it took a nosedive during this chapter, and the open-world environment was gone, replaced with an island in the middle of the ocean that didn't feel connected in any way to prior experiences. Aside from maybe taking out a few parrots and lizards, the hunting is not as interesting as in other areas. Guarma feels like a stain on a game that is known for having engaging and enticing environments. When it's time to leave Guarma, both you and Arthur Morgan will not look back fondly on your time there.
