Warframe 10 Reasons To Be Excited For Empyrean

Warframe's latest update, Empyrean, is one of its most ambitious yet. These are all of the reasons to get excited about it. Space combat is immensely satisfying if done right. With the rise of space sims such as and Elite Dangerous, interest in the genre has increased massively over the past few years. plans to capitalize on that subset of fans with "Empyrean", one of the most ambitious updates the game has ever seen. Players can work with others to create and control massive ships called Railjacks, offering new gameplay features never before seen in Warframe. Not only will this update add new mission types, but Railjacks will also reintroduce a cooperative focus not seen in years. Here are the top 10 reasons to be excited about Warframe's "Empyrean" update. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Space Combat

"Empyrean" lets players take control of a Railjack, a multi-crew spaceship kitted with plenty of weapons and gadgets. Players can roam open-ended missions in these massive player-made ships. Besides the cool factor of piloting a ship, players can use special abilities they can customize to give an upper hand in battle, whether that is invisibility or . Enemies will try to board the ship as well, meaning there is a good mix of new spaceship combat and classic close-quarters combat Warframe is known for.

Multiple Roles

Since Railjacks require multiple people to fully operate, each crew member can assign themselves special roles that benefit the ship. Piloting, Gunnery, Engineering, and Tactician are all roles players can choose to fill. Players unlock special skill trees that provide unique passives and skills to benefit the crew they are a part of. Multiple trees can be upgraded at the same time, but massive time investment means most will stick with one or two. Similar to the Focus System, players who stick with this long term grind will reap plenty of benefits. Alternatively, players can also recruit other members with the skills they need to make missions as easy as possible.

Focus on Co-op

With multiple roles needed to properly operate a Railjack, cooperative gameplay is more paramount than ever. While Warframe is a co-op focused third-person shooter, the content players can undergo rarely takes advantage of that four-player squad cap. However, Railjacks should encourage players to group together and utilize the party's strengths. A multitude of roles, abilities, and new enemy types is going to require too much attention for one person to handle, so having players designated to unique roles will vastly help.

You Don t Need A Ship To Play

Players who are not fortunate enough to be part of a clan or have the resources to build a Railjack can join a crew, just like any other mission in Warframe! Matchmaking for Railjacks puts players with another crew, carrying over all role progression they may have accrued. Unlike other space games like Star Citizen or Elite Dangerous, finding players without ships is just as important as having a ship itself, as the roles those players can fulfill will significantly increase the chance of mission success. If you are uncomfortable matchmaking for missions, however, there is a fifth Command role that allows players to command NPC crewmates to do tasks real players otherwise would, meaning nearly any player can enjoy this massive space update.

Upgrades

It wouldn't be Warframe if there wasn't a staggering amount of choices for players to make, and "Empyrean" is no exception. Tons of upgrades await players who are willing to grind. Each Railjack part comes in 3 tiers, all of which can be researched in a clan dojo. Besides the parts themselves, Avionics can be installed to provide abilities, passives, and even tactical powers. Fully upgrading a Railjack will provide a gameplay style similar to a , and the addition of upgraded crew roles will further enhance a large variety of playstyles.

Squad Link

Even if you are not part of a Railjack crew, you can still help those in space combat missions. Squad Link allows friends and clan members to complete bonus objectives on their missions to help your Railjack team! While this feature seems missing for launch, this addition allows Railjack teams to request assistance from fellow friends or clanmates playing the game. You can opt-out of squad linking, meaning you won't see these requests and side objectives pop up unless you want to. It's yet another way to encourage co-op in a game that rarely does so.

Seamless Transitions

Swapping between piloting the ship, manning the turrets, and fixing broken systems is seamless and easy to do. Not only this, but players can swap between fighting in the Railjack or their Archwing. Players in Archwing—Warframe's version of space jetpacks—can help escort the Railjack, fight off smaller enemy ships, and even hijack giant cruisers and capital ships! Railjacks can launch Archwings into compromised enemy ships, allowing those players to infiltrate the enemy ship and take command of it. Not only is this cool, but it also incorporates Warframe's standard gameplay with the new Railjack missions, making these missions feel organic instead of heavily scripted.

Potential

Railjacks are a prime game system to be expanded upon. The developers have mentioned repeatedly how they want the game to be more connected than it currently is, and "Empyrean" can be the first step towards that goal. Unifying game elements aside, it can also provide new or returning modes. Trials, which were Warframe raids, could return if Railjack is successful. 8 players all using one or two ships while fighting high-level enemies sounds like a concept too good to pass up. New game types, such as air support for ground squads in open worlds, could also be created thanks to this update.

New Clan Content

Clans have been neglected in Warframe for years, occasionally getting new cosmetics or weapons to research. Besides that, no gameplay system has encouraged clan members to play together. Railjack being tied to clan research and multi-man crews means that clans will finally have a reason to recruit and play with members. Smaller clans will finally have a reason to expand and recruit new players. This update should hopefully bring the community closer together than ever before.

It Releases Soon

This update is slated to be released before the end of the year, and the most recent Devstream shows that this update seems close to finished. While no definitive date has been released, the developers promise that this update will release soon after "Drydock" released, which is now a few weeks old. In addition to being out soon, this update is also free for anyone to play! Since Warframe is a free to play game, iterations and updates like this are free for all players without any payment gates. If you have never played Warframe before, this might be the perfect opportunity to try it.
