Xbox 2020 10 Franchises That Could Return Come Next-Gen

These dormant franchises are ones that could return with the next-gen Xbox, Project Scarlett, in 2020. With the full reveal of Xbox's next-generation console, currently codenamed happening near the front half of 2020 fans are getting excited. With a new generation of consoles comes the possibility and opportunity for some of the most beloved franchises to return after seemingly being abandoned. Fans gain hope at the prospect of companies like Microsoft trying to win over lapsed fans with new entries in their most beloved series. Let's now look at 10 franchises that could return come to the release of the Xbox. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Skate

Skate is a franchise fans have yearned for Electronic Arts to return to and it seems to have been laid to rest after the release of Skate 3 in 2010. Skateboarding popularity has slowly dipped with mainstream audiences as the years have gone on and that's mostly due to Tony Hawk hanging it up and not being as active in the scene overall. The recent rushed release of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 has people yearning for Skate 4 even more with hopes of Tony Hawk looking to rectify his brand.

Prince Of Persia

It's unfortunate that a franchise like has been relegated to a strange mobile port and another mobile release in the last decade. As the Assassin's Creed titles have dove heavily into the role-playing game mechanics and veered away from the stealth and assassinations the series was known for it's opened the door for the return of Prince of Persia. Ubisoft did a good job this generation with their games-as-service titles but could get an easy win next-gen with the return of this beloved series.

Conker

Like most original Rare franchises, Conker has been asleep for almost 15 years without a new entry in the series. The platformer series had a bold and rash comedic tone that might have to reinvent itself to remain culturally relevant and appropriate in today's society. Conker has been seen recently via a Microsoft HoloLens project as well as the Rare Replay collection, so it's not like he isn't being used. A new Conker title seems like the perfect mid-sized game that could bolster the catalog for Xbox Game Pass come next-gen.

Perfect Dark

Out of all of the owned IP that Xbox and Microsoft have hanging in their closet, Perfect Dark seems like the one best suited to receive what people refer to now as the 'God of War' treatment. This is of course in reference to how Sony Santa Monica reinvented the God of War series and delivered a groundbreaking experience with the 2018 release simply titled God of War that turned a hit or miss franchise into a blockbuster masterpiece. A bold high-quality reboot of the series could go a long way with Xbox fans.

Blue Dragon

Now, Blue Dragon may seem like an out of nowhere call that doesn't make sense, but it may not be as odd as you might think. In 2019 Phil Spencer has reiterated multiple times via his Twitter account that he has been visiting numerous Japanese and Korean developers overseas in hopes of building Xbox's footprint and reach in those territories. What he hasn't mentioned is that he may be looking for a developer who's perfectly suited to bring back the fan-favorite Blue Dragon series on next-gen consoles.

Banjo-Kazooie

With the pair of lovable goons coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as one of the DLC fighters, it has in turn given fans hope that Microsoft is interested in getting the most out of one of Rare's most iconic franchises. With Rare currently focused on Sea of Thieves and Everwild, it's hard to imagine they have time. Microsoft should look towards developers like Playtonic Games, the studio made-up of ex-Rare employees, to bring the franchise back boldly and creatively after all these years.

Viva Pinata

Viva Pinata has and always will be the closest thing to Pokémon that Xbox has. Despite releasing three games in three straight years and having an animated show that ran for 2 seasons and 52 episodes, the franchise has been dormant for over 11 years at this point. Xbox needs to do a better job of licensing out the multiple beloved Rare franchises that stay trapped in a closet to capable and motivated developers who want to try their hand at bringing them back to a hungry audience of fans.

Splinter Cell

Fans of the Splinter Cell series have had a rough go of it the last 6+ years and Ubisoft hasn't done much to satiate them. Outside of Sam Fisher making cameos in their games-as-service titles and a weird mobile game, there hasn't been an ounce of hope for another mainline entry. Oddly enough, Splinter Cell was the only game not to release or be revealed from the infamous Walmart Canada Leak before E3 2018. Hopefully, Ubisoft does good by Splinter Cell fans come next-gen. Michael Ironside isn't getting any younger.

Bioshock

In 2018 Kotaku unveiled a report in which they stated that publisher 2K formed a secret studio to develop a new Bioshock game that was scheduled at the time to release in 2020. Despite seeing a remastered collection in 2016 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the series hasn't seen a new release of a mainline entry since 2013. A new Bioshock could help bolster the launch of next-gen consoles and push people towards purchasing the new Xbox.

Fable

The biggest non-secret in the industry at this point seems to be that Playground Games is working on the in the Fable series. Xbox themselves have stated that the developer, which they recently acquired, has been working on an open-world role-playing game, but wouldn't divulge more despite rumors swirling that they were handed the beloved IP. Don't be surprised if their new Fable game makes an appearance at the full reveal of the next-gen Xbox currently titled Project Scarlett.
