DepowerBall Preview A Creative Platformer Where You Punish Your Friends

DepowerBall puts an interesting twist on the chaotic multiplayer game by giving everyone power-ups then taking them away from the winners. Via: megapower.games Developer Mega Power Games is hard at work on a creative and enjoyable new platformer, Depowerball. In it, players face off with an array of powers that are helpful in scoring points, but winners are soon punished by the losers. They jump, shoot, and outmaneuver opponents to be the first to feed the dragon queen and score points to win rounds. As you win, however, losing players will vote which of your powers to take away. This forces you to change your strategy on the fly, though other players will soon be disadvantaged too. At the start of a match, all players begin fully powered up, putting everyone on a level playing field. To navigate the platforms and deal with an opponent, four powers are provided: Double Jump, Speed, Lazor, and Rico-Shield. At the start of a match, everyone will be zipping around the screen, firing their lazors and blocking shots with their shields, all while leaping high from one platform to another to grab the treats and deliver them to the dragon. Tie votes between more than one ability trigger a random elimination of an ability, and the next round is set to begin, only now that scoring player is disadvantaged, while everyone else remains at full strength! In one match a player may find themselves suddenly without any means of defending themselves, and in other their speed is reduced to a crawl. The only way to reach the top of the scoreboard and claim victory is to become a depowered shell of your former self. Depowerball looks to be a big hit, especially for friends looking to have some local co-op fun. At its core the game really is about camaraderie. If one friend is always the first to score, they are also the first to be punished by their friends. Playing with a group who know how best to make you squirm with the loss of an ability.
