Save Princess Daphne All Over Again In This Dragon s Lair Mini-Cabinet On Kickstarter

A Kickstarter campaign to bring a scaled-down cabinet of the legendary Dragon’s Lair is being developed. Another is about to find its way into modern day homes. But fret not, it’s only going to be a foot tall. A Kickstarter campaign to bring a scaled-down cabinet of the legendary Dragon’s Lair is being developed by the Los Angeles based New Wave Toys. It boasts a real wood cabinet, and promises an arcade perfect experience that’ll fit on a bookshelf. The campaign has doubled its $75,000 threshold with less than a month to go, making it likely that we’ll see mini cabinets of the revolutionary classic for sale sooner than later. Honoring the classic in more ways than one, the mini cabinet houses a laserdisc emulator to provide the experience arcade goers had during the game’s initial run. New Wave is also including a bonus replica laserdisc player and keychain to reward their donors. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Dragon's Lair x RepliCade Presale is live on Kickstarter! Mini 12 inch PlayScale replica that Looks, Plays and Controls like the original 1983 Dragon's Lair arcade machine! Includes second scoreboard and mini LaserDisc Player! Only $90 plus shipping! — New Wave Toys (@NewWaveToys) Partnering with RepliCade to give the authentic experience in and out, this is a must for collectors looking for a neat trinket. The attention to detail is stunning, especially as the cabinet features the original artwork and layout and even plays to the neat fact that Lair was the first game to universally be priced at 50 cents per game. At $120, it may be costly, but it’s a unique way to play the game in the way it was meant to be played. Dragon’s Lair was ahead of its time when it was released, featuring QTE elements and an unforgiving difficulty level. Former Disney animator Don Bluth provided the art for the game, and helped the arcade surge of the early 80s along with games like Donkey Kong and Pac-Man. Though this could have easily ended up as a future Arcade1Up cabinet featuring its sequel and Space Ace, this is a niche product that retro gamers are sure to love. Though the price tag might be a bit steep, especially considering that similar variants for retro titles are priced much lower, this attention to detail and arcade-perfect emulation as advertised makes this more than a decoration. If successful, this can add another avenue for retro gamers to get their fix of days gone by. Source:
