Hearthstone Grandmasters Week 5 Recap – A Meta Solved

This past weekend wrapped up the fifth week of the Grandmasters Tour in Hearthstone. As many predicted, the meta appears to be solved. Via: youtube.com (Hearthstone Esports) This past weekend wrapped up the fifth week of the Grandmasters Tour in As many predicted, the meta appears to be solved with players almost unanimously shielding their Priest decks from ban, resulting in Warrior and Druid taking the hit instead. While the new conquest format offered a unique way for the Grandmasters Tour to unfold, a similar problem seen in the Specialist format has appeared. Combo Priest runs wild and went unchecked thanks to the shield phase before a ban. On the upside, we're at least seeing more class diversity than before, but not by much. Via: Hearthpwn.com The match between William "Amnesiac" Bartonand and David "Justsaiyan" Shan was a bit of an upset. Watching the match below reveals a couple of points. First, the meta is largely solved by now, with the decks looking exactly as they did last week. And two, priest is most certainly going to be receiving some manner of balance in the near future. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Like most other matches against a Priest deck, the winning round game in the form of one massive minion hitting hard. In this case, Amnesiac only hit with a minion that has twenty attack, but even that is getting to be ridiculous. Years ago, rotated cards like “Power Overwhelming” to the Hall of Fame with the explicit reasoning that it encouraged unhealthy combos that could hit too hard in one turn. That referred to a Warlock strategy that involved drawing many pieces, including Leeroy Jenkins, Emperor Thaurissan, Faceless Manipulator, and two Power Overwhelming. With all of those cards, a mana reduction tick from Thaurissan, and nothing blocking the board with a taunt, it was possible to do 28 damage in a single turn late into the game. For weeks now, Combo Priest has been showing us one-turn kills of over thirty damage with fewer cards, far earlier in the game. If Priest remains at this power level, the esports scene will not be exciting to watch, or participate in. Other notable matches were Thijs “Thijs” Molendijk against Dima "Rdu" Radu, with both players shielding their Priest decks. Thijs secured a victory 2-1 over Rdu by using his Priest and Quest Druid, the latter also now a staple of the Grandmaster’s tour for the value it provides the longer a game goes on. Finally, che0nsu and Kim "Surrender" Jung-soo both shielded their Priest decks. Che0nsu won first with his Combo Priest, and then with Quest Shaman. Unfortunately, we're about to enter a bit of a slump in the Grandmasters Tour, as Blizzard has not made any announcements regarding Combo Priest. Expect the next weekend’s matches to all shield their Priest decks, and then slug it out with Warrior, Druid, Paladin, and Shaman decks. Source:
