The team has risen up the rankings over the past few years, making a name for itself with its impressive skill. Though it only made it through the Challengers Stage with a 3-2 record, the team seemed to find its footing in the Legends Stage. Avangar took one loss, falling to ENCE on day one. It then took three straight wins - including a massive upset over tournament favorites Team Liquid - to qualify for the play-offs. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY This is Avangar’s first-ever Major play-offs appearance. Its previous best result was a group stage exit at IEM Katowice earlier this year. Avangar will face off against Vitality in the quarter-finals. The second 3-1 team to advance to the main stage was Vitality, which is widely regarded as the second-best team in the world. The team started off its group stage run by defeating both North and FaZe Clan before losing to ENCE on day three. Struggles from the Challengers Stage didn’t seem to weigh on its minds today, though, as it took a dominant win over mousesports to secure a play-offs spot. Vitality has plenty of experience on the roster, fielding previous Major winners Nathan “NBK-“ Schmitt and Dan “apEX” Madesclaire. The roster also includes Alex “ALEX” McMeekin and Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, two Major play-offs rookies. This will also be Cédric “RpK” Guipouy’s first Major play-offs appearance, despite having played at seven previous Majors in CS:GO. Many believe that the team will make a deep run in Berlin after recent results pushed it up to the number two spot on the HLTV's . Vitality will come head-to-head with Avangar in the quarter-finals. via StarLadder The final team to qualify for the play-offs was Astralis, the former best team in the world. The reigning Major champions started off its run strong, taking dominant victories over both DreamEaters and G2. It then fell to North Americans NRG on day three after a 59-round slugfest on Train and a quick loss on Nuke. Astralis then faced up-and-coming team CR4ZY, with map two ending with a 60-round war in which CR4ZY came out victorious. Vertigo set the stage for map three, and it seemed to work in Astralis’s favor today, as it took a dominant victory. This win secures Astralis’s quarter-finals spot, putting it in a great position to defend its Major title. Should Astralis win this event, it will be the first team to ever win three CS:GO Majors in a row. One day remains for the StarLadder Berlin Major’s group stage in which the final three teams will move on to the Champions Stage. The quarter-finals will begin on September 5th.
