100 Thieves Will Not Field A Team For The Call Of Duty League Next Year
Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag took to Twitter yesterday to announce 100 Thieves would not be participating in the upcoming Call of Duty League next year. Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag - Founder of 100 Thieves - took to Twitter yesterday to announce 100 Thieves would not be participating in the upcoming Call of Duty League next year. The message was a shock to many and held a somber tone, as Nadeshot explained why he (and the entire organization) decided that fielding a team for the Call of Duty League just wasn't possible at the moment. In the video, Nadeshot listed out all the reasons why it wasn't going to happen, but didn't rule out the possibility in the future. However, that future isn't even close to being certain. The main factor has to do with how much it costs to buy into the league. $25 million is the ticket price, and while 100 Thieves is a continuously organization, that price-tag isn't a strong investment at the moment. 100 Thieves will only have been created two years ago in November, so they still have plenty of growth to go before depleting all their resources into one team. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Nadeshot explains that they aren't ready to "plant their flag" in a location. Like the Overwatch League, Call of Duty League will be home to franchises that are city-based. At the moment, it isn't in their best interest to claim a city and tell everyone that this is where they belong. 100 Thieves doesn't want to lose their identity as a brand. The Call of Duty League teams will be represented by a city and a mascot for the city - such as Dallas Fuel in the OWL. The team behind the Dallas Fuel is Envy, but we as fans necessarily don't realize that. Nadeshot explains that 100 Thieves is a brand, first and foremost, and the name is one of the most important part of their identities. Nadeshot started his career as a professional Call of Duty player before founding 100 Thieves. The esports organization has teams in League of Legends, Fortnite, and Apex Legends. They have also participated in the Call of Duty World League. Nadeshot goes on to explain that they are more than just Call of Duty. It's a sad moment for fans of 100 Thieves. Call of Duty has been such an integral part of Nadeshot's life and the organization as a whole. To have to take a step back from the scene, even briefly, is a big loss for us fans of professional Call of Duty. Only time will tell if we will see 100 Thieves influence of the Call of Duty league. Until then, the organization will continue to build their brand until they are ready.
