With the next installment from the franchise due for release on October 25th, there's been plenty of discussion amid the controversial discourse over the bold route the devs have opted to take. However, Infinity Ward, so far, has yet to announce anything as it relates to a battle royale, as has become the norm for shooter games as of late. There were rumors that a free-to-play version of the upcoming game could also be in the works for later this year. However, YouTuber LonSensation, who correctly leaked that the next CoD would be called Modern Warfare ahead of the official reveal, is reporting that the game will be released in the form of a battle royale sometime in early 2020. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY According to LongSensation, the multiplayer will exist in the same universe as Modern Warfare. Although, it will be available for download as an entirely separate game. Respawn saw a surge, both in sales and the multiplayer community for simply because they released a free-to-play battle royale earlier this year. Thus, it would be of little surprise if a host of new players decide to buy Modern Warfare just because they enjoy the free version. Treyarch, who operates under the Activision umbrella, has hosted multiple free-to-play weekends for Black Ops' Blackout mode. This has likely brought in many new players to the Call of Duty franchise who may have been more hesitant, if not for the battle royale mode. via dailystar.co.uk Activision initially locked access to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered as part of a special edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, though they later gave it a standalone release. As such, releasing a free-to-play version of the game would mark a pleasant atonement for that. While Infinity Ward has refrained from making an announcement over the future launch of a free battle royale, they haven't ruled it out either and it's possible that work is being done on the game right now. Time will tell how credible LongSensation's leak turns out to be this time around. For any battle royale players out there, its accuracy may determine their buy-in to the Call of Duty franchise.
