5 Improvements Red Dead Online Has Made Since Launch & 5 It Still Desperately Needs
Since Red Dead Online came out, fans have been having a great time playing in this world. Some things have improved, but others still need to be fixed is one of gaming's most impressive feats. managed to craft a stunningly lifelike recreation of the old west and spun a beautiful narrative about betrayal, redemption, and family. While the single-player would have been more than enough to justify its price, the game also came packaged with an online component which launched over a month after release. Red Dead Online models itself after the company's prior multiplayer effort, Grand Theft Auto Online. Like any multiplayer mode this robust, it launched with its share of issues, but Rockstar is steadily dishing out updates to remedy its imperfections. As a celebration of how far Red Dead Online has come and an acknowledgment of what still needs to be done, the following list will present five things the developers have fixed since launch, and five improvements the game still desperately needs. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Improved Looting
Red Dead 2 Looting bodies Every deceased enemy usually has some goodies on their person. The player doesn't automatically pick them up when walking over the body, however. They need to stand over the corpse and press a button to loot. This used to take forever, especially after an intense gunfight with a high body count. In a recent update, they significantly increased the speed at which characters rummage through the dead's pockets. Maybe stealing from them is disrespectful, but Red Dead Online is all about shooting and robbing, so respect is a fairly low priority in the game's gritty world. Still Needs Improvement Faster Cooking
Red Dead Online posing with a revolver and shotgun To keep one's cores maintained, they must steadily consume food and drink. People can buy these at a market or cook a plate themselves. The latter is a more financially sound alternative, but also boring. When at a camp, one has to cook each piece of meat separately over a fire. Preparing a whole stack of food can take several minutes. Its function in is understandable, but it's unnecessary online. Make cooking faster so players can get back into the action. Improved Movement
Red Dead Online Walking through the street through dust is a slow game by design. The world is supposed to feel heavy and oppressive. It contributes to the narrative but feels like a hindrance when jumping online. Fortunately, movement was recently made more fluid to make traversal easier. Climbing and vaulting is faster and players recover from stumbles quicker. Some of fixes are subtle, but they go a long way towards making the game more enjoyable. Still Needs Improvement Bug Fixes
Red Dead Online scarf glitching through nose People have come to expect bugs when a multi-player game launches. What really matters is how fast the developers address these. Thankfully, most of Red Dead Online's glitches are harmless. At worst, one may have to redo a mission after it becomes unbeatable due to an NPC glitching out. Other times, someone may find themselves unable to move after mounting a horse. It has already gotten notably better, but plenty of glitches still populate the old west and need some culling. Improved Story Missions

It all takes place before the main game's events, and a few familiar faces show up. Rockstar has graciously added more missions to continue the arc, and their most recent update, Frontier Pursuits, added a whole slew of content one can tackle on their own. One can become a bounty hunter, trader, or collector. Each path has its own unique unlockables, making them all worthwhile endeavors. Still Needs Improvement Transportation
Red Dead Online Horse Getting startled Traveling on horseback is time consuming and dull. The lack of any fast travel in was no big deal because driving felt great, but riding along a path on a steed is not engaging in the slightest. A fast travel system would cut down on the monotony of travel. Obviously, Rockstar wants players to live in this world, but the added convenience would draw in more players. Maybe they could add the feature but still incentivize getting to an objective the old fashioned way with bonuses. Improved Aiming
Red Dead Online shooting gun with purple jacket Shooting has never been Rockstar's strong suit, save for 2012's Max Payne 3. While Red Dead Redemption 2 feels better than , it still doesn't hold a candle to most other third-person shooters. The people working on the online mode understood this and recently addressed the issues by making subtle changes to both the free aim mode and the auto-aiming mechanics. Shooting on horseback is significantly easier, and getting into a shootout feels better. Still Needs Improvement Microtransactions
Red Dead Online Dead Bear Considering the amount of content packed into the game, it's hard to complain when a consistently updated online mode has microtransactions. Gold bars are a slowly accrued currency used to buy certain items and unlock the Frontier Pursuits paths. They can also be purchased, saving a lot of time but spending some real world cash. Finding a balance between natural progression and microtransactions is always tough, and Rockstar hasn't quite hit the nail on the head. As of now, it takes too long to earn gold bars through regular play. Improved Griefing
Red Dead Online Walking from a burning house Griefing was the bane of many during the game's early days. It was far too easy for malicious players to prey on a victim and take them out over and over again, forcing the other to jump to a different server. Thankfully, a recently added defensive mode helps those who have no interest in interacting with others during their time in the world. Damage between players has also been reduced to prevent such quick deaths at the hands of wrongdoers. Still Needs Improvement Multiplayer Modes
Red Dead Online team walking through town ready for battle Red Dead Online has already added a few new competitive modes to the mix, but it is nowhere close to what GTA Online currently has. The latter's adversary modes use the game as a way to construct unique minigames not involving robbing and killing. Red Dead Online should also think of some fun diversions they could add. Even the most mundane and silly ideas can turn into a fun time in the open-world game.
