The Celtic Throwdown And Mortal Kombat 11 - Results And Rundown Of New Meta Fighters

The Celtic Throwdown in Dublin this past weekend has given us a glimpse into the new meta of top fighters in Mortal Kombat 11. Via: flikr.com (deanbenarye) The Celtic Throwdown in Dublin this past weekend has given us a glimpse into the new meta of top fighters in following the last balance patch in August. As expected, few of the previous top fighters were in the spotlight, while others rose to take those spots. EVO 2019 was the last big competition in the FGC, and there we saw the same old typical dominance of fighters like Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs, Erron Black, and Geras. It was a different case at the Celtic Throwdown, however, as we saw a varied group of fighters taking the top spots. Curtis "Rewind" McCall took home the top prize though his masterful use of Liu Kang, defeating Dominique "SonicFox" McLean, who was showing everyone the powerful new buffs that D’Vorah received. Ryan "Dragon" Walker took the third top spot with his Cetrion play, which showed little change in style or tactics from Evo 2019. Fourth place went to VideoGamezYo, real name unlisted, who showed off an impressive variety of Shao Khan and Jax Briggs fighting style all weekend. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Via: flikr.com (deanbenarye) There was still high-level play from fighters like Cassie Cage, Geras, Sonya Blase, Erron Black, Shang Tsung, Sub-Zero, and others, but changes from the balance patch have clearly broadened the list of fighters at the highest levels of competitive play. Check out the Grand Finals between SonicFox and Rewind: The match was close at 3-2, but overall, we can see how the balance update benefited these two players. We can certainly expect to see more of Liu Kang in the future. While SonixFox did extremely well with D’Vorah, some were surprised not to see him using Jax Briggs more often. Since the balance patch was released, SonicFox has repeatedly stated on Twitter how much he enjoys the playstyle of Jax and has released hours of online gameplay showing off his skills with that fighter. Although SonicFox did not bring his Jax Briggs, VideoGamezYo did, along with Shao Khan, showing everyone how powerful the close-quarters fighters can be. The video below versus Denom "A F0xy Grampa" Jones demonstrates how those two fighters can effectively close the gap against the likes of Shang Tsung, a fighter known for his outstanding ranged abilities. As for the future meta, many are wondering where Night Wolf will fall. No one used him at the Celtic Throwdown, of course, as the newest fighter to the game is banned until the next competitive event at Dreamhack Montreal from September 6-8. We might see some top-level play for the newest character there. However, , it may be a while before competitors are comfortable bringing him to events. Source:
