Terraria Best Melee Build In Terraria 1 4
A melee build will take someone far in Terraria 1.4. Here are some tips for maximizing this build's potential. Quick Links
The melee build in 1.4 is a classic. Powerful, versatile, and the ordinary direction to take through the game. It's strong from the early game all the way to the very last bosses. The Moon Lord stands no chance against your trusty sword. Although there are many options when it comes to the melee build, as with all things in Terraria, there is an optimum path through the game. This guide will help you make the most of the best weapons, armor, and accessories for an ultimate melee build in Terraria. Updated July 13th by Harry Alston: To celebrate the upcoming release of the 1.4 Journey's End update on consoles, we're returning to these build guides to prep new players with all the information they need to dominate throughout the course of Terraria's boss progression. We've updated this guide to cover more of the necessary accessories, weapons, and playstyles that make up the best melee builds in Terraria. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Fundamentals of a Melee Build
Swords and armor. That's where it all begins, and where it ends with a melee build. Throughout your progression through Terraria 1.4, the well-trained melee warrior will focus on high defense, high damage, and plenty of maneuverability to make the boss fights a bit easier. During the first steps into a fresh Terraria world, you start with a simple Copper sword. Over the next few dozen hours of gameplay, you'll discover truly powerful melee weapons, from spinning shields to swords that shoot projectiles halfway across the map. Here's how you do it. Early Game Melee Build
Though your Copper sword might be what you rely on to kill those first slimes, you want to upgrade as soon as possible. Head to the desert and craft a Cactus Sword. Cactus is stronger than copper. This is Terraria. It doesn't have to make sense. You might also opt for a sword crafted from the early ores, like Gold or Platinum. Platinum Armor, Jungle Armor, or just about any other Armor will see you through your baby steps. The best melee accessories include a Cloud in a Bottle and Hermes Boots, as well as any other early items that you pick up. You can't really be choosy at the start of the game. Ideal set up for an early melee build: Platinum or Gold Sword, Blade of Grass (if you tackle the Jungle early enough) Gold, Platinum, or Jungle Armor Hermes Boots, Band of Regeneration, Cloud in a Bottle Pre-Hardmode and the Wall of Flesh
Once you've batted down that ugly eye and taken on your world's version of Corruption, you're likely ready to start thinking about going into Hardmode. There are plenty of powerful options for a melee build at this stage of the game, including the rare Enchanted Sword, the Muramasa, or the Starfury. If you're into your Yoyos you could also go with the Cascade. Shadow or Molten Armor is recommended before you take down the Wall of Flesh. Go in with your trusty Platinum armor and its laser beams are going to tear you in two. By this stage, you should have picked up some more useful melee accessories, like the Magma Stone, Feral Claws, or even the Magma Skull. Molten Armor is the best possible melee build armor for Pre-Hardmode. It's crafted with 45 Hellstone bars and 45 Obsidian. That's a total of 135 Hellstone you need to mine from the Underworld. As of the 1.4 update, the Molten Armor actually received some changes in terms of his melee capabilities. The Molten Helmet provides a boost to critical damage chance, the Breastplate boosts overall damage, and the Leggings boost your attack speed. You can also no longer be set on fire with the On Fire! debuff, which is nice. Recommended melee set up for tackling the Wall of Flesh: Enchanted Sword, Starfury, Muramasa (other options are available) Shadow Armor, Molten Armor Feral Claws, String and Counterweight (if you've opted for a ), Magma Stone Although the melee build is strong, the Wall of Flesh is best tackled with a ranged weapon. Grab some Beenades or the Bee Keeper from the Queen Bee and you're ready to roll. Early Hardmode Melee Build
The Wall of Flesh is defeated and your Terraria world just got a whole lot scarier. This is the time when you need to start really refining your melee build. Some great include the Amarok Yoyo, the Ice Sickle, or Fetid Baghnakhs. You should also upgrade your armor as soon as possible. Many of the Hardmode ore armor sets have unique bonuses. For example, Titanium Armor offers some extra defense by creating a shield whenever you're attacked. Adamantite Armor provides twenty percent increased melee speed. Experiment with some of the different armor sets to see what works for you. These are the suggested items for an early Hardmode melee build: Amarok, Ice Sickle, Fetid Baghnakhs Titanium, Adamantite, or Frost Armor Warrior Emblem, Berserker's Glove, Magma Stone You have a lot of options when it comes to melee armor in Hardmode, and what you wear will change over the course of the game. Any of the standard ore armors are viable because you can change up the different pieces of armor to complement a melee build or another type of build. It should also be noted that having a sort of mixed build is still fine in the early days of Hardmode. You will have to play around with what the game gives you, depending on what you get from your Mimics and how much ore you find. Later you will have to be more careful about crafting the best melee build you can. Plantera Hardmode Melee Build
At this stage in the game, a mixed class starts to feel a bit underpowered. You can start to focus your melee build on the way you like to play, by picking a weapon, armor, and accessories that complement your playstyle. You can also get your hands on some awesome swords, like the True Night's Edge and True Excalibur. Turtle Armor and Chlorophyte Armor will also provide the defense you need to survive these big boss battles, while also offering some useful melee modifiers. Turtle Armor, as the name might suggest, is perfect for turtling: attackers take double damage and all incoming damage is reduced by fifteen percent. The best melee loadout for Plantera includes: True Night's Edge, True Excalibur, Yelets (if you're a Yoyo warrior) Turtle Armor or Chlorophyte Armor (the Mask is recommended for a melee build) Warrior Emblem, Mechanical Glove, Fire Gauntlet Golem Hardmode Melee Build
Defeating Plantera opens up the Hardmode dungeon, as well as the Pumpkin Moon and Frost Moon events. This means you'll get access to a bunch of new melee items to perfect your build. The best weapons include the Terra Blade, the Paladin's Hammer, and the Eye of Cthulhu Yoyo. You'll probably still be rocking either Chlorophyte or Turtle Armor at this point, and these armor sets work just fine for taking down the Golem. The accessories stay pretty much the same, except now you can include the Frozen Shield if you complete the Frost Moon event. The ideal melee build for Golem looks like this: Terra Blade, Eye of Cthulhu, Paladin's Hammer Chlorophyte or Turtle Armor Warrior Emblem, Mechanical Glove, Frozen Shield, Ankh Shield Lunar Events And Moon Lord Melee Build
This is the stage of the game where your melee build starts to get really crazy. Powerful endgame weapons, like the Influx Waver, Zenith, and Terrarian Yoyo are the crowning glory of an endgame Terraria melee build. Upgrade your armor to Beetle Armor, and later Solar Flare armor, and you'll be at the most unkillable form yet. Even in the endgame the melee accessories are sort of the same, with the Ankh Shield, Mechanical Glove, and Warrior Emblem all making an appearance. The ideal endgame Terraria melee build will include: The Zenith, Terrarian Yoyo, Daybreak (there are so many options here) Beetle Armor, Solar Flare Armor Ankh Shield, Warrior Emblem, Celestial Shell, Fire Gauntlet You can check out our other build guides here:
