PRESENTED BY LOS ANGELES -- Freshman pinch hitter Adalberto Carrillo provided walk-off heroics in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Trojans with the game-winning home run as No. 23 USC defeated No. 5 Vanderbilt 6-5 at Dedeaux Field on Saturday afternoon. In what was a back-and-forth game, Carrillo pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth and deposited the 3-1 offering from the Commodores' Ben Bowden over the left field fence for his first collegiate home run to give the Trojans the 6-5 victory. Starter Kyle Twomey pitched 5.0 innings of work, scattering 12 hits with four runs and four strikeouts and no walks. The Commodores got on the board in the top of the first inning, but the Trojans answered in the bottom of the frame as Bobby Stahel doubled to start the inning and advanced to third on an error by the center fielder. Jeremy Martinez delivered the sac fly to tie the game 1-1. The Trojans added two more runs in the third inning as AJ Ramirez doubled to left center field and Reggie Southall reached on an error as he attempted the sac bunt. Stahel scored Ramirez from third on a sac fly. Southall advanced to second on a wild pitch and then Garrett Stubbs came through with the squeeze bunt to plate the second run of the inning to make the score 3-1. The Commodores added another run to pull within one in the fourth inning, before Dante Flores homered off the scoreboard in right field to make the score 4-1. Vandy made it 4-3 in the fifth, before the Trojans added another run in the back-and-forth game in the bottom half of the inning on a Stubbs single. The Commodores added a run in the bottom of the eighth off reliever Mason Perryman to tie the game at 5-5. Commodore reliever Kyle Wright kept the Trojans off balance for 3.1 innings, only allowing one hit. Then reliever Ben Bowden threw one inning of work, and had two outs in the bottom of the ninth until pinch hitter Carrillo delivered the walk-off bomb. HOME RUN ADALBERTO CARRILLO!!!
