PRESENTED BY FAIRBANKS, Alaska --- Top-rated Minnesota State-Mankato and Alaska battled to a 1-1 overtime tie in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest on Friday evening. Senior forward Max Gaede ripped a backhander past Nanook netminder Sean Cahill at 7:24 of the first to make it 1-0 Minnesota State to open the scoring. Alaska responded with the only goal of the second period when Tyler Morley deflected Colton Parayko's shot from the point past Stephon Williams at the 10:49 mark with the Nanooks on the power play. Minnesota State, which converted on zero of six chances on the power play, was outshot by Alaska 30-18. Williams is now 19-3-2 in net this year. The Mavericks are now 22-5-2 on the season (19-2-2 WCHA) with the tie. Alaska stands 14-13-2 (9-12-2 WCHA).
