Denever Broncos may have trapped themselves by paying Russell Wilson $245 million before start of season

Indianapolis Colts v Denver Broncos Through first six weeks of the 2022 season, the Broncos sit at an underwhelming 2-4. Before the season started, the team decided to extend Russell Wilson for five more years for a whopping $245 million. The new contract ties Wilson down to the team until 2030, as he still has two years left on his current deal. As Wilson ages and gets older, it doesn't seem as if he's getting better, and if he keeps declining, it may be very costly for the Broncos. He may still have loyal fans who may defend him against criticism from his disgruntled ex-teammates but they can't alter results. Russell Wilson has to show the quality that led to his team awarding him a contract for extension. That's necessary both for him and his team.
