PRESENTED BY MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin forward Duje Dukan must sit out the first two games of the season for the No. 3 Badgers following a review of the senior's eligibility. The school said Wednesday that the issue stems from the 2012-13 season, when Dukan played limited minutes in an exhibition game and a closed scrimmage at the beginning of that year. Dukan was recovering from mononucleosis at that time and decided after the two contests to take the rest of the season to recover. But Dukan did not qualify for a medical hardship waiver. Wisconsin said Dukan did nothing wrong. The 6-foot-10 Dukan is a key player off the bench. He averaged 2.8 points and 8 minutes a game last season. Wisconsin said that it had officially regained a year of eligibility for Dukan, though NCAA rules stated he must sit out two contests for every one played in 2012-13. Dukan sat out a closed scrimmage Saturday and Wednesday night's 77-40 exhibition win against Wisconsin-Parkside. He also will sit out the first two regular-season games before being eligible again Nov. 19 against Green Bay. "We'd like to make it clear that Duje did nothing wrong in this situation," Wisconsin assistant athletic director of compliance Katie Smith said. "We have exhausted every effort on Duje's behalf to reduce the extent of the withholding, but unfortunately the rule does provide an opportunity to appeal."
