PRESENTED BY ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Seventh-ranked St. Cloud State (3-2-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) posted a 4-1 victory against No. 1 Minnesota (4-1-0, 0-0-0 B10) on Friday at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The victory marked the Huskies' second consecutive win against one of the nation's top-two teams and it pushed the Huskies' record to 3-2-0 on the 2014-15 season. On Oct. 25, the Huskies scored a 3-2 win at No. 2 Union College, the defending NCAA champs. The Huskies opened the night's scoring at 14:53 of the first period with a marker by Kalle Kossila. The goal, which was Kossila's first of 2014-15, was assisted by teammate Jonny Brodzinski and Patrick Russell. SCSU pushed its lead to 2-0 at the close of the first period with another even strength goal by David Morley at 19:57 of the first. Ethan Prow and Joe Rehkamp each had assists on the play for Morley, which was his first goal of the new season. In the second period, Brodzinski extended SCSU's lead to 3-0 with his fourth goal of the season at 1:12 of the period. His power play effort was assisted by Russell and Prow. In the third period, the Huskies iced the contest with a 5-on-3 power-play score by Joey Benik at 3:11 of the third. Kossila and Brodzinski each gained assists on the play, which was Benik's second goal of the season. Minnesota broke the shutout at 4:18 of the third period with a goal by Hudson Fasching, which included a lone assist from Mike Reilly. On the night, Kossila earned the top star of the game with one goal and one assist, while Brodzinski was named the second star fo the evening with one goal and two assists to his credit. On the season, Brodzinski continues to lead the Huskies with four goals and seven points. The Huskies win marked the first loss of the season for UM and it sets up a key rematch for both teams at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis on Saturday, Nov. 1. SCSU outshot the Gophers 37-32 on the night. SCSU's Charlie Lindgrenposted the win in the nets with 31 saves, while UM's Adam Wilcox had 33 saves in the game. On the power play, SCSU was 2 of 6 and UM was 0 of 2.
