PRESENTED BY SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Fourth-ranked Syracuse defeated Atlantic Coast Conference rival Wake Forest 3-1 on Friday in front of 1,611 fans at the SU Soccer Stadium. Redshirt junior Tyler Hilliard scored a career-high two goals and Chris Nanco added an insurance tally in the 70th minute as the Orange (11-1-0, 4-1-0 ACC) extended their winning streak to seven games. Freshman Julian Buescher was taken down on the offensive end to award Syracuse an early free kick. Murrell sent the ball just outside the back post, finding Hilliard who headed the ball into the back of the net, giving the Orange a 1-0 advantage which they would hold onto for the rest of the half. Two minutes into the second half of play, Syracuse was given another free kick. Murrell again found Hilliard near the back post, who headed in his second goal of the night. Prior to the match, Hilliard had one goal in his entire SU career. Stefanos Stamoulacatos sent a long pass to a streaking Emil Ekblom who then crossed the ball to Nanco coming into the 18 yard box, and Nanco finished the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. The Demon Deacons (6-6-0, 2-3-0 ACC) were able to generate some offense late in the match. Hank Gauger received a pass from Michael Gamble on the right side of the net before chipping a shot over Alex Bono just under the cross bar to put Wake Forest on the board with less than four minutes left in play.
