PRESENTED BY AUSTIN, Texas -- UCLA recorded its seventh shutout of the season, defeating Texas 1-0 at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Bruins' third minute goal by Sam Mewis stood as the only score of the match, as Katelyn Rowland made a season-high three saves to earn her 43rd career-shutout. UCLA (7-0-1) got off to a quick start as Caprice Dydasco set up a pass to Taylor Smith, who crossed it to Mewis for the goal. "I was excited and proud of how we came out. Scoring a goal in the first three minutes was great," UCLA head coach Amanda Cromwell said. "We played well and had a good defensive effort. I think we probably earned more than one goal, but Texas is a good quality team and are really well-coached ... we got the shutout and are moving on." The Bruins peppered Texas (4-3-2) with 12 shots in the first half, forcing Longhorn goalkeeper Abby Smith to make four saves. UCLA's defense was stingy, allowing just one shot, which went wide in the 26th minute. Texas started the second half aggressively, earning a corner kick in the first two minutes of the half, but Mewis successfully headed the kick out of danger. Chantalle Campbell got Texas' first shot on goal of the game in the 60th minute, but her shot was easily handled by Katelyn Rowland. Sharis LaChapelle had Texas' most dangerous chance of the half in the 67th minute, one-timing a chip shot deep in the box, that was nabbed by Rowland for her second save of the game.
