Jacksonville Jaguars v Indianapolis Colts On Sunday, the (2-4) will look to right the ship against the surging (5-1). The Jags have lost three straight, most recently blowing a fourth-quarter lead against the 34-27. Jacksonville rushed for 150 yards in the first half against a defense allowing just south of 100 yards per game. However, Colts QB aired it out all afternoon, throwing for 389 yards and three scores, both setting season highs. Meanwhile, the Giants are going in the complete opposite direction, winning four straight games. Their most recent victory, a 24-20 home contest against the , marks the second straight week the Giants have succeeded as underdogs against the spread. New York rallied from 10 down, capped by a one-yard TD with under two minutes to play. The Jags have won three of their last four meetings against the Giants, dating back to 2006.

Tale of the Tape

The Jacksonville Jaguars are two games under .500, but anything is better than what they put on the field in 2021. Last year's rendition of the Jags features a coach in Urban Meyer who cultivated a hostile environment, a roster lacking talent around QB , and questionable game management in crucial situations. Under Super Bowl-winning coach Doug Peterson, the Jags are just two wins away from tying their win total from the combined last two seasons. Jacksonville finally opened their pocketbooks, spending money to bring the team leaders in receiving yards, Christian Kirk, and tackles, Foyesade Oluokun. The return of 2021 first-round pick, RB Travis Etienne, has also been enormous. The former college teammate of Trevor Lawrence is averaging 74.5 yards per game with 5.6 rushing per attempt. Jacksonville is in the league's top half in rushing yards, points scored, and third-down conversions. The Jaguars hired former Tampa Bay Buccaneers inside linebackers coach Mike Caldwell to run the defense. He has been the heartbeat of a drastically improved defensive unit. Jacksonville is one of the NFL's best at stopping runs, ranking third in the league in rushing yards allowed per game and rushing yards allowed per attempt. The secondary plays a bend but don't break style of pass defense, allowing 6.3 net yards per attempt but already forcing seven interceptions. The New York Giants are one of the NFL's most surprising teams, and finally, in a good way. It seems the G-Men have finally found their coach in former Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. Offensively, the Giants run through superstar RB Saquan Barkley. The 2018 Offensive Rookie of the Year has been an IR casualty over the last two seasons but is bouncing back in a herculean way. The do-it-all back is averaging 128.5 scrimmage yards a game while already finding paydirt six times this season. The Giants are fourth in the league in rushing yards per game at 163. Barkley opens the door for QB Daniel Jones to game-manage and play turnover-free football. The signal-caller has five touchdowns to three picks on the year. The New York defense is similar to Jacksonville in that they allow yards but mostly keep their opponents out of the endzone. Unfortunately, the Giants have been one of the worst defenses against the run, allowing a league-worst 5.6 yards per attempt. Still, they have surprisingly only given up two rushing touchdowns on the year. Breakout DL, Dexter Lawrence, may be a problem for the Jaguars' offensive line. The four-year veteran has four sacks on the year, already tying his career-high set in 2020.

New York Giants vs Jacksonville Jaguars Betting Prediction

The numbers suggest the New York Giants are a miraculous 5-1. Unfortunately, the offense has been below average at best outside of Barkley. The defense doesn't match up well against a Jags running game that features the tandem of Etienne and RB James Robinson. Expect the Jaguars to get off the schneid with a home win against the Giants.

Prediction Jaguars -3 -110
