PRESENTED BY CARROLLTON, Ga. -- West Georgia director of athletics Daryl Dickey announced Friday the appointment of Trina Braden as interim head women's volleyball coach. Braden fills the post left vacant with the July 16 resignation of former coach Gary Lee. "We're very appreciative for Coach Braden's flexibility and the timing to be able to bring her on board to lead our volleyball program for the 2014 season," Dickey said. "She has an excellent background as a coach and player, and we're confident she will do an excellent job in leading our student-athletes and our volleyball team this year." The UWG job will not be Braden's first at the collegiate level. She spent eight seasons as head coach at Embry-Riddle, a member of the NAIA Sun (formerly Florida Sun) Conference. During her eight seasons with the Eagles, Braden's teams posted an overall record of 152-116 and a conference record of 66-36. She was also named the league's coach of the year following the 1999 season. Braden left the collegiate coaching ranks following the 2004 season to enter the private business world. She returned to coaching last year as the head coach of A5 South, a top club program in metro Atlanta. Previously in her career, Braden had been a successful coach of club programs in both Florida and Arizona, and was a prep head coach for one season at her alma mater, Maryvale High School, in Arizona. Braden also boasts impressive credentials from her playing career. She was a multi-sport star at Maryvale and was named by the Arizona Republic as the All-Arizona Female Athlete of the Year. On the collegiate level, Braden was a standout performer at Northern Arizona. She was a two-time team captain at NAU, was named All-Northwest Region first team and was chosen as the school's Female Athlete of the Year in 1993. Braden is a 1995 graduate of Northern Arizona, where she earned a bachelor's degree in physical education. Related:•
