The Hollywood star is no stranger to transforming his body for his art, which was evident in his epic transformation for the cage-fighting role in the critically acclaimed sports drama. The Englishman gained 28 pounds of muscle for the film to achieve a ripped physique and an imposing look. Aside from bulking up for the role, Hardy underwent a lot of conditioning work and MMA training, which involved learning various disciplines of martial arts. During an interview with , Hardy discussed his routine to prepare for the role: "I did two hours boxing a day, two hours Muay Thai, two hours jiu-jitsu, followed by two hours choreography and two hours of weightlifting seven days a week for three months. So come on! You have to really want to do that, so it was a challenge." While Hardy shot for the movie more than a decade ago, it appears that the actor continues to train in martial arts, especially Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The Englishman surprised fans and everyone in attendance when he appeared at the REORG Jiu-Jitsu Championships, held at Wolverhampton's Aldersley Leisure Village in August. The actor competed with a blue belt and was quite impressive in his performances. Hardy won gold medals across both Gi and no-Gi categories in the tournament.
